  1. A friend of mine has her child in one of the Ellenbrook schools I'll find out which one, she has had a dreadful experience. They didn't pick her 6 year old up on his second day he was left sat with the teacher, then something else happened a fight I think and she pulled him out. She ended up with a childminder, if you PM me I'll give you the name of the one to avoid, she eneded up dropping her too for various reasons and now her friend pick him up.
  2. The last three months have been quieter than in the GFC
  3. Maybe the time to buy is sooner than we thought, hate renting anyway
  4. I'm torn i'll be honest. Half of me thinks Perth is up and coming and therefore there will be more opportunities and if everyone from the East coast hates it then all the better for my kids, less competition for everything. Maybe we can be the ones to pioneer all the developments, implement the new systems and be at the forefront of bringing Perth onto the global stage. And then I worry that the Perthians are perfectly happy as they are, no intention of moving forward and it'll be impossible to convince them of the benefits and that will become depressing and draining after a while, in the meantime the kids could be getting more opportunities elsewhere.
  5. but Being young and single comes to an end at some point & you need to think ahead too. And then you have five short years that go like lightening when you have small children and then you have to think of their social lives as they grow up too.
  6. I might just follow her instead .... Locals I interviewed weren't up to much tbh I don't think nanny's are widely used in Australia certainly not the impression I got, all the agencies have Europeans or Asians on their books not locals.
  7. You must be honoured they would confide in you.
  8. I've always been very honest in my reasons for leaving anywhere, no reason not to. Indeed backpackers moving on is the very nature of the beast. And this nonsense about having to work on a farm these days, what's that about.
  9. It's not really a relationship where you'd do a termination interview more of a " we're off to Melbourne" text goodbye i think the boyfriend has struggled for work actually
  10. Lol I've just had a text from my 20 year old nanny that they are heading to Melbourne. Nothing like a bit of notice but I can understand completely.
  11. My little brother aged 26 is coming out for a visit soon and I think we will be lucky if we keep him here for a month before he buggers off to Sydney. That said isn't there 3 women for every man in Perth ? I work with some ugly buggers who seem to be doing well in that department which can only be attributed to desperation on the womens part.
  12. It would be more relaxing without the ankle biters but DH and I used to do exactly that all over Europe back in the day, sit in a nice cafe and people watch. The things we saw !!!!
  13. Google Ellenbrook schools. Someone I work with has a child there, it aint the best but she's come from a dog rough apart of the UK so her child is beating the crap out of everyone who tries their lucky. Or go and sit in the local McDonalds/cafe for a couple of hours, that'll tell you all you need to know about any suburb.
  14. I have to say we had no problems securing a rental, but it does make a difference where you want to be, if you want to be with all the other Brits and pay $450-500 a week then there's lots of competition, if you open your options a bit and look beyond the obvious beach side then there's more choice. And if you can pay an extra $100 that can often make all the difference too.
  15. We don't get $200,000 each, that was clear but we don't like to let facts get in the way on this forum do we ? And yes she does get a good wedge, she works 10 hours a day 5 days a week so yes it's expensive, that was rather the point I was making at the time, remember.
  16. Yes that's the point, getting it would be fine, repaying would be a totally different matter, impossible.
  17. Who knows. I don't think it's as simple as taking one number and doubling it due to compounded interest rates, we are a long way off buying so just playing around with calculators but renting seems good value to me compared with the size/type of property you would get if you owned it not to mention all the maintenance.
  18. $550,000 ? The banks would offer us $1.2 million, over 70% of our salary going on mortgages, no wonder it's out of control here I'm sure there are those who take them up on that offer.
  19. Just playing around with mortgage calculators and of course circumstances, deposits etc are going to alter the figures but according to the reverse mortgage calculator on realestate.com.au $4,000 a month would allow you $550,000 in buying power.
  20. A grand a week gives you a mortgage of $550,000 over 25 years and a pretty average house.
  21. Wait until you're paying $1000 a week for a mortgage, you'll look back fondly. And you might not even get the pool then.
  22. Careful what you wish for recessions have a nasty habit of involving job losses.
  23. Where are you thinking of living ? What sort of income do you have in the UK, does your other half want to work ?
  24. Do some research on the schools in ellenbrook. We have a friend their and have been up to visit. In theory it's a good option but my friend has moved from Bradford and she thinks it's rough in ellenbrook/avely.
