  1. I think anywhere on the Mornington Peninsula ticks all the boxes. You are still only 1 hour away from civilization, but close to great beaches and amenities.
  2. The weather can be good/bad depending on what season you are in in either country. To be honest, there is a lot more rain in Melbourne than parts of the UK, but then again there is a lot more sunshine as well. You take the good with the bad.
  3. Singapore Airlines are one of the best airlines I've flown with. They have a great entertainment system too and screen some great movies, I'm sure you won't get bored. Also the food is superb as is the customer service.
  4. Yep its a wonderful country alright. Love the people too. (That's enough flattery now, the cheques in the post - Australian tourist board!)
  5. I was certainly well set-up here before we left Australia, got to England and it hit me like a brick. I love Australia, wouldn't want to live anywhere else now.
  6. Yeah Emirates and Singapore Airlines are the best IMHO. You sometimes get really good deals if you book at the right time too. And to be honest its worth a couple of hundred books for the added comfort of the better carriers on long haul. I don't think i'd survive a China airways flight as i'm 6'3'.
  7. Don't give up your job if you have a good one.
  8. there's plenty o like about both countries I agree.
  9. Never felt so worried in my life after leaving here.
  10. No came back to Australia on my own. Wife promised to follow then changed her mind. Everyone on here knows I'm pro Australia, cause I love it here. But my wife found it difficult, I don't know why, she had a beautiful home and loads of money. Holidays back to England whenever she wanted.
  11. Blackpool is hell, I went there last year, never ever been so depressed in my whole life. It's grim.
  12. My wife pushed me back to England, and its screwed me up ever since. Don't make the same mistake is all I'm saying.
  13. A lot of people feel that way. But after a while it does become home believe me. If you went back to England you might struggle there as migration changes you. Your outlook changes, everything. Don't go back in other words, stay and build friends, life etc, let yourself be happy here.
  14. I'm in that boat. Wife pushed us into going back to England which turned into one unholy disaster. Wanted to come back to Australia straight away. Now I find myself back here on my own looking for work in tough times, having thrown everything away that we'd worked hard for. So stupid, if only we could have seen what would happen, we would all have just stayed here.
  15. Yeah agree about the posh thing. My wife couldn't believe it when I told her that a receptionist down at the gym said that I sounded like I was part of the royal family - and I'm from Liverpool. Maybe that's Jim Royale !!!!!
  16. I've no idea what that means am I'm English so how the hell can Aussies understand it ?
  17. Everything from the smell of the plants to the hot summer nights.
  18. If your children are happy why would you want to leave ? Its far better to keep them safe and secure with both of you working than risk it all. (yes, the uk fans will beat be up again, im sure, cause they always listen with their heart not their head sadly).
  19. Its quality versus space. Sure you can buy a quality Barratt home but they are generally very small compared to Aussie new builds. The benefit of Aussie houses is also that they can be changed and upgraded easily. Its like having a basic model car, a lot of people here like to put their own improvements on them, many go for bifold doors and big outdoor decking.
  20. Ahhh gardens with trees in them. That's something very lacking in Harrogate
  21. As good a the on-board customer service is, they have to be heavily criticised for their lack of management. The first incident they did not respond well following the loss of the aircraft, they were jumping all over the board, and of course there is the fact that they didn't report their aircraft missing for several hours which is incredible. The second incident, there are many reports that say the advice was NOT to fly over that airspace as it was in a war-zone. Why would an airline even risk flying such a route ? Many other airlines, including all US based ones have been avoiding that airspace. If an airline does not care about the safety of its passengers and crew, it should not be in business.
  22. I was being deliberately stereotypical since a lot of posters think you can't get to know people in Australia. But yes I did make friends as easily here as in the UK. You find them out in the gardens more often too, if you know what I mean :biglaugh:
  23. I guess 70 million people can't be wrong. You certainly get to know your neighbours unlike in Australia.
  24. I moved back to UK and regretted it ever since.
