  1. If you are not a permanent resident then i am sorry to say but you have no chance of getting a job unless some company looks to exploit your situation.
  2. They don't care wether there are jobs or not only that you and plenty of others will come and sink money in to the local economy, buy houses keeping artificially high prices high and that with population growth we will create jobs for these 'in demand' occupations. Welcome to the ponzi scheme!
  3. What the English forget is that without the rest of the countries that make up the UK they would be irrelevant on the world stage. Hence why the UK government does not want to lose Scotland.
  4. Better ban smurf and dwarf outfits as well then as short people may take offence. The world has gone mad
  5. English people who refer to the UK as England are even more dumb than the american's who do this. They should know better. Cant see why some idiot thinks that it is wrong that Scottish people do not like to be called English. Would that same person like to be called German?
  6. Yes but theres a big difference between a geoligist or engineer who has been recruited from overseas as they are well trained and have a skill that is needed and a young Irish lad who comes on a WHV and works as a tradie for $25ph and gets sponsored. 457's have their place but for young inexperienced tradesmen on low wages they do not.
  7. Loads of people here on holiday visas and 457s working for 60% or less than what the aussies get paid. Wages will be driven down because of this. Those of us on PR usually work for less at first as well.
  8. That sounds like Australia just replace the polish and lithuanians with English and Irish.
  9. Your lack of experience may be a problem in getting the visa as only post qualification counts for points. You will do 1 years gap training in all states now involving courses, logbook and trade test. approx cost including lost earnings $10000 the visa plus skills test, english test etc will cost around $7k if you use an agent then $10k as a rough guide.
  10. It wont be as bad due to the fact WA actually has something to export. But the warning signs are there low interest rates, schools cut, Credit rating downgraded and there are still people pouring in to WA daily thinking well paid jobs await all those who are willing.
  11. Sure is Australia today reminds me of the UK about 6 years ago.
  12. That's because the public sector are overpaid and overstaffed under the labour government but don't worry the same problem has now arrived in Australia.
  13. Yeah just go to Butler its like a utopia. No need to go anywhere else.
  14. Na because these same people will tell you there's loads of work here in WA and how house prices will never fall
  15. The 2 week course in WA was changed to gap training for those with OSTR last July and ARTC in January this year. CET can't do electrical course for overseas electricians anymore only Polytechnic West and it is 1 years gap training.
  16. I was one of the first to complete the gap training so i am well aware of what is required. It took me around 7-8 months at 50 hours per week. Yes if you work in the mines it will be quicker but you are not counting the non working weeks according to these easy to get jobs on 8 and 6 rosters your calculation would still take 30 weeks not 15!!!!!!! And besides there is problems with getting booked onto the comms course which those of us who are permanent migrants have to do as we had to do Vetassess to migrate. Holiday visas do not so can do an ARTC. And from what i hear some people now cant do the capstone until next year as it is fully booked. You make it sound like there are loads of jobs out there but that is very far from the truth. Most mines have completed the construction stage apart from a couple of projects with no new ones coming up. Plenty of sparks contracts ending or getting laid off. Not to mention the fact that the union companies have been striking in Perth due to the companies trying to bring in pay cuts and i think that paints a truer picture.
  17. Surely people reading this thread realise that the only relevant part is the most recent threads? The system has changed constantly and the migration route has too. And even at that it still differs in states as well as in there is still a loophole to get a SA license with an ARTC but not an OSTR. Best advice that can be given is too think long and hard before you start this journey. It is a lot of hassle and stress especially if you have a family and you will be exploited by employers when you arrive and apply for hundreds of jobs. Plenty of unemployed electricians in WA now and unless you are somebodys buddy it is very hard to get employed unless you willing to work for $30 ph which would just cover your weekly bills and no more at a push.
  18. Love the comment about offering more rent lol. In Perth i noticed a lot of properties being re advertised at lower rents when i was looking for a rental 6 months ago. The rental market in perth has increasing occupancy rates and i presume other cities are the same.
  19. seek.com.au is the biggest pile of fake jobs you will ever see. People look at it and see over 100 jobs for their profession advertised and think it will be easy to get a job. I am a spark and have applied for around 100 or more jobs on seek in the last year and had maybe 2 or 3 replies and 1 offer of an interview. Better to look in local paper as these jobs are real or approach companies.
  20. Disconnect and reconnect as far as i am aware no installation work!
  21. Do not go by the amount of jobs on seek! Most are collecting CV's and not real! I am a spark from Scotland who has finished the gap training recently and have been in WA for a year. The gap training cost me around 10K counting lost earnings due to attending college and it was not easy to get employment to fill out the logbook. Work here has slowed considerably. The company i work for has been dead for 2 months and i am now getting laid off. So far most of the jobs i have applied for on seek amount to nothing and I have a A grade license, Numerous tickets and WA experience so I think that tells the real story. I have met sparks on the courses that cant get employment to finish the logbook and gap training as well.
  22. Things are very different now. You do 1 years gap training and it can be very hard to secure a job here. A lot of people are being laid off at the moment.
  23. Totally agree with this and that can make it very hard for people who were not at the bottom of their respective careers. Perth has been flooded with people coming here and the jobs are not here despite the government issuing visas. Hence the reason there is such a backlash against 457's. There are a lot of young guys with trades come here on WHV looking for sponsorship and working for less money than the locals or those of us who emigrate with families. It would have been very different a few years back compared to now.
  24. Read the recent pages on this thread and you will find out everything you need to know.
  25. You have almost no chance of getting on the Gorgon Project. They are recruiting Australians first( of which there are plenty) I heard this from a recruiter i know as i applied for Henderson shipyard. Loads of trades still arriving here believing the streets are paved with gold only to find a very different reality.
