  1. If I ever buy a house here I intend on bringing it into the 21st century. I find it amusing how they give houses a 6 star energy rating. These houses would not even get a building warrant in most developed countries.
  2. Maybe you could meet someone online and get married................
  3. Eh my tag is tounge in cheek ie sarcasm. I wont buy a house at the moment due to it being a house of cards property market, so currently rent which means I cannot fix said property. As for number 1 should everybody who complains about something in the country they live in **** off? LOL we would all be living in space. And actually things change when people complain not when we accept it or we would all still be unable to vote or have freedom of speech.
  4. Fat people should pay for 2 seats. I smoke and get taxed extra for health care so why don't fat people pay more! They will be the next target in the not so distant future once smoking is eliminated. Gotta raise those taxes somehow.
  5. Oh sorry to complain, maybe we should just be happy that we have sub standard housing. Maybe i should lower my expectations and accept that i should not be allowed to expect better.
  6. Welcome to the third world! They have yet to understand that insulating and sealing houses makes them far more energy efficient and also helps to reduce critters too lol
  7. Take everything because you will need it. Brickies are very rarely employed here, they all work self employed.
  8. Only when you live in the shxx areas of the UK Yes the house look different outside but we almost all live in 4x2 with the same living area etc and built like a shed. I have never lived in a shoebox in the UK but then i never lived in council estates either. Can you explain to me what is different? all have 4 tiny beds check, living area with kitchen, dining and living area together check , oh and cinema room that is about the size of a decent TV. Can you explain how this is variety? Yes i know Butler is paradise to you but to me it is like communist Russia.
  9. You have got to be kidding me? Yes they have the crappy 2 storey concrete shitty mansions in Dalkieth (again all same design but slightly different) but they don't really compare to the proper stone built detached houses or even the newer large homes in the UK. Actually metro area has the most varied properties here its is when you leave those areas they all look the same do they not? Freo has a bit of character with the older type buildings I agree which I why I like it there but that is a very small part of the city.
  10. Can i ask what is the difference to other jobs here as, in if you finish at a certain time you then pack up your tools, pens , laptop etc that may take 15 mins before you leave the workplace or do we all now accept that we don't do any work for 15 mins before we finish work. I know that i don't expect to leave exactly on the minute that i am paid to as I don't expect my employer to pay for me putting my things away and walking to my vehicle before i leave to go home.
  11. The point i am making is that all houses in oz are almost exactly the same. Yes in the UK whole estates look the same but i could buy a huge variety of different houses such as terraced , georgian, victorian, bungalow , villa, townhouse etc and areas of of a city have a distinct different feel unless you live in Milton Keynes or Hull or somewhere else ****,areas look the same yes but there is a huge variety of different property
  12. Gotta love how estate agents and the media always put a positive spin on it, In that article they mention that rents are falling and that the housing boom has been fuelled by investors. That tells me that supply is moving ahead of demand and that can only mean one thing.
  13. It would be 4 years including Tafe and apprenticeship. You go to Tafe 1 day a week during the apprenticeship. I am pretty certain he would not get an ARTC due to not working in the industry for a long time. So he would need to do a full adult apprenticeship. Best to speak to a Tafe and they should be able to advise better than me.
  14. You don't mention what visa you are on? I presume your husband is not the main applicant? I don't understand where you get 8 years from? even if he had to do a full apprenticeship that would be 4 years??? he needs to apply to trades recognition Australia first of all for an ARTC which if granted will allow him to do the 1 years gap training and i think it costs around $1000. Takes around 3 months and cant be done offshore. He coud do vetassess if offshore for $3000 and get an offshore technical skills record(OSTR) which would also allow him to do the gap training but would only really be done for migration purposes. Next he has to apply for temporary electrical workers permit $100 and a month wait. Then book gap training $2500 and 2 weeks at tafe. Next a comms course $700 and 1 week at tafe complete homework and fill a logbook whilst working for an employer. Wages could be as low as $20 ph depending on the company especially if working in residential. Once all is complete sit the same trade test as Australian apprentices, 1 week at tafe. Once complete you can then apply for a license and pay around $400 for this. As for careers advice well you can make decent money if you can get in to the right job which is not easy or you can make a basic living working for smaller residential companies
  15. Why anyone would choose Perth as a holiday destination is beyond me???????? It is a nice place to live and for bringing up my young kids but there is nothing here to see or do. i could think of at least 100 better places in less than 5 minutes to visit for a holiday. I am working with German's at the moment and they are struggling to find places of interest to visit.
  16. According to this link http://www.taxcalc.com.au/#results you would have $690 pw after tax a lot less than you stated at $850, also rent at $350pw seems on the very low side even for adelaide? So no you could not. We are a family of 4 living in Perth and i would say we spend over $1000 pw as a minimum with no debt at all on just basic living costs and bills.
  17. I was not talking about the real world large projects that are done by electrical engineers, but I was referring to the small project they have to do as the final part of the electrical contractors course which is nowhere near as involved as what you are talking about.
  18. The comment about buying porridge 24hrs a day. If you said that about an Indian buying curry, or a chinese person buying rice 24hrs a day that would be considered racist. I proved you wrong and so you decide to start trying to insult me? Sad tbh.
  19. Well I guess it is but i don't really appreciate comments like that from some *** behind a computer who would not say that to me in person. No wonder Scotland is voting for independance
  20. Scotland is UK is it not? Just as WA is part of Australia and has different opening times from the more modern states. Most of Europe has 24hr too.
  21. http://storelocator.asda.com/store/edinburgh-supercentre for the non believers
  22. And you want to do shopping after a 10-12 hr workday in dirty clothes? Not me i like to go home have a shower see my kids and eat dinner thanks
  23. They are open 24hr in Scotland, Even the one in the small town I lived in outside Edinburgh opened at 8a.m. on a Sunday.
  24. Have to say i totally agree with this too. All i seem to do here is work come home and go to bed, then get up in the middle of the night to go to work again. I even found myself waiting for the shops to open on Sunday at 11a.m. so we could do bloody food shopping on my day off because the shops are in the dark ages here!
