  1. You still require a skills check but it would be TRBWA and not AITSL. The reality is TRBWA are a little more flexible than AITSL so I only see that as a positive. If you're keen to enter the pool I'd suggest contacting the email below: international.recruitment@education.wa.edu.au
  2. CBD is flat, but the Perth Hills is full of erm hills... My uncle lives there, he has views of the CBD and the Indian ocean at a far distance.
  3. I have confirmed with the Department of Education WA today that if you go the 482 visa route you won't need to complete an AITSL assessment. I was also told if you were to require a AITSL assessment further down the track having worked and been registered by TRBWA to switch visa, AITSL would look favourably on your application even if it was through a SCITT - this is a very new agreement in place with state governments. The person I spoke to couldn't confirm case by case scenarios but suggested someone with a PGCE including SCITT would qualify for sponsorship. The grey area would be a three year teaching degree followed by further study. You would need to contact the email address below directly to discuss your situation: international.recruitment@education.wa.edu.au My new contact was very helpful and committed to bringing over teachers to WA, I appreciate it is his job but he was aware of SCITT models of training and on how that is impacting their recruitment campaigns. I get the impression there is a balancing act between Federal and State policies and that they aren't completely aligned.
  4. From my experience school direct isn't accepted neither is a 3 year degree through AITSL. Were you funded whilst doing schools direct or fee paying, that can sometimes make a difference. If your Masters was Autism in Education that may have been acceptable to AITSL, but it seems a bit of a lottery. Frustratingly TRBWA (WA's teaching board) would accept your registration however you need to receive a visa first and this is through AITSL considering your teaching degree and qualifications equivalent to Australia. To top it all there are plenty of 3 year trained teachers in Principal roles and the likes in WA, so don't get me started on that. My background is SEN and autism, if you were over in WA I'd be able to get you a job in a heartbeat at the moment so to read this is frustrating for me! There's a real shortage of qualified SEN teachers with experience and knowledge. When I left for Oz nearly 8 years ago now you also couldn't complete a PGCE if you had already obtained QTS. In the eyes of England and Wales you were already a qualified teacher and therefore couldn't register for it. I'm happy to be corrected! I did a SCITT and originally got rejected, I looked into doing a PGCE elsewhere but would have had to go to Scotland!
  5. I am Benj1980 on this forum but also PerthPoms. Although I am logged in here I perhaps haven't got the same password on PerthPoms. My email address on both forums I also suspect are an old email account that is deactivated. I'm doing very well aren't I? Is there anything I can do to salvage my username on PerthPoms? Can someone point me in the direction of an admin?
  6. I live in south Mandurah and more than happy. It takes 90 minutes to get home from Optus after a Dockers game but I can live with that to live in a quiet area. My children came over just a little older than the OP and they've made friends, settled in easily and are generally happy. There are a couple of rougher areas of Mandurah though, but I just stay away from them - much like any big town/city.

    Passports

And I thought this discussion was about passports!
  8. Hmm my in laws are looking at this option. Did I read this is going to be reviewed?

    Passports

How would they know? Wouldn't I just be in a different line? I have lots of friends who haven't renewed their British passports and have been back multiple times, never had an issue or delay other than queueing in a different line.

    Passports

I'm contemplating renewing our British passports, but not really fussed! Although we do like to travel a bit we have Australian passports. I'm aware some countries you pay a tourist or temporary visa fee and others you don't dependent on your passport. So my question is what countries do you pay visa fees on an Aussie passport and which ones on a British? For example, I believe you don't require a visa on a British passport when going to Vietnam, but you do with an Australian passport?
  11. Yes, I just think sometimes it could probably be quite easy to assess. I wondered if checking your previous travel would come into it, but you declare where you have been to the best of your ability. I don't know I'm clearly under thinking it. I actually feel the same about AITSL, but don't get me started on that! My thinking there is there can only be one person assessing your documents for AITSL and they only work from 0900-1300!
  12. I had a letter stating my practicum days this was signed by the Academic Registrar, an academic transcript from the University stating the units that I completed and my PGCE certificate. My associated university was very accommodating, I appreciate many aren't and they are not required to provide an academic transcript. This was all on the University headed paper.
  13. Sorry @Marisawright not sure what happened there...
  14. I often wondered, how long does it actually take to approve your visa. They check all your documents, they're all there. Stamp!
  15. Yes, that was a regular morning job!
  16. Bit of a bump, but also to say we need Psych's in WA. So board that plane!
  17. I told the university registrar what I required and they created it for me. It wasn't autogenerated, that's why I say I was fortunate. AITSL accepted my letter confirming teaching days, transcript and PGCE certificate.
  18. There seems to be more teachers looking to make the move! From what you have described no AITSL will not accept this. They request an academic transcript from the university. I am in the minority where my SCITT partnering university agreed to create a transcript for me detailing the units completed for my PGCE. I am not sure if you require AITSL for the 482 visa (I don't think you do) however they wouldn't be requested by state education registration to intervene in any way. AITSL is utilised for initial visa applications. I'm in WA and TRBWA would accept SCITTs. 'The Department does not recognise the Qualified Teaching Status (QTS) certification where it is not held in conjunction with a suitable Initial Teacher Education qualification, awarded by a recognised university.' I believe they mean the old GTP route, SCITTs have a recognised university as a partner...
  19. It's now the preferred training route in the UK! Due to the additional invaluable classroom experience, instead of having the afternoon off from lectures you are still in a school environment. @rammygirl is right, a review has been completed and there's many changes due to happen at university level, we were getting graduates with little knowledge of differentiation, explicit instruction etc. However, they could all tell you their learning style through VARK... In terms of an application to AITSL it is hard to say whether it would be accepted, it sounds promising but absolutely no guarantees.
  20. Hi @LFrance normally the recommendation would be to simply speak to a registered agent, however I haven't found one that knew much about the routes into teaching and AITSL's requirements. That said I have stopped looking for them as well, so they may well be up to date with the challenges that you have. School Direct is another version of the SCITT that I completed, the fee paying version. The salaried version is actually like Teach Australia. AITSL does not like these type of programs despite having Teach Australia. Go figure. SCITTs now cover 55% of new entrants into teaching, so I have raised this with my local Federal MP who was surprised that so many potential teachers seem to be ineligible. Anyway I am waiting to hear back, this case has been escalated I believe to AITSL and various ministers. Watch this space... What can you do? Well, I came to Australia via a SCITT and I am not the only one, however we seem to be in the minority. AITSL had no interest in transcripts from my training provider, but were keen for information from the University that moderated and validated my PGCE. I was able to provide an academic transcript from the university confirming the modules I completed with credits and the amount of prac experience in terms of days through a letter. This was deemed appropriate. I had an academic transcript from my SCITT and was rejected initially by AITSL. You say you have an academic transcript, make sure it is from the University!
  21. Good luck, please do keep us updated. I've now brought this up with my Federal MP who is questioning the process. We can but try...
  22. I have queried this at the highest levels and they have recognised that this could become a blocker for the 190 visa. They have decided to drop the requirement of requiring a contract. I can't say it's because of my contact but I have it in writing that a contract is no longer a requirement. We are also currently working to engage international teachers through the WA State Nominated Migration Program, which you refer to in your email. I am pleased to let you know that the Skilled nominated visa 190 no longer has a requirement for an employment contract.
  23. The feedback from people trying to move to WA is that you do. Some other states don't require this. This is why it is so frustrating. Where are you moving @Cheery Thistle?
  24. More people are now completing their training through a SCITT than a higher education institution. AITSL needs to wake up! New entrants to ITT by routes into teaching Summary In 2021/22, there were a total of 17,318 postgraduate new entrants on school-led routes, making up 55% of the total, up from 53% last year, and the same as we saw in 2019/20. The numbers training via HEIs decreased to 13,915, making up the remaining 45%. The number of HEI new entrants saw a 14% decrease compared to 2020/21 and a 9% increase compared to 2019/20. Despite the decrease in HEI trainees compared to 2020/21, the proportion of new entrants training via postgraduate fee-funded routes rose by 2 percentage points, to 90%, driven by the increases seen in numbers of School Centred ITT new entrants and the decrease in numbers of School Direct (salaried) entrants[1]. School Centred ITT and Post Graduate Teaching Apprenticeship are the only routes to see increases in trainees compared to 2020/21. The largest decrease from 2020/21 to 2021/22 occurred in the School Direct (salaried) route (down to 783 trainees). The School Direct (salaried) route, along with High Potential ITT saw the only decreases in number of new entrants when compared to 2019/20[2]. There were 5,836 new entrants to undergraduate ITT, a decrease (2%) from 5,983 in 2020/21, but an increase (20%) from 4,882 in 2019/20.
