  1. Pretty sure its the time that you have spent on the 457 with that employer, that way Immigration know that you have 100% been working for them long enough to waiver the requirment for a skills assessment.

1st time for everything.... Matty, Well done for finishing the course, I dont know how you managed that with a family, I for one think you so far have done pretty well. Maybe try an get some professional advice from a Migration agent they may be able to give you some new ideas of the next step? How long do you have left of your Student Visa?

I think that the market rate of the job has to be a minimum of 51400(or whatever the threshold immi have set) if the market rate of lets a junior mechanic is 49000 but the company offers the potential employee $53,000 the visa can still be refused. Just because the company offers more - the market rate still needs to be above the 51400 threshold.

Also the wage is the market rate so even if the company pays you $100,000 if the market rate for a salesmans / junior mechanic is $49,000 the 457 will be refused (if you were applying for this visa)

So you came to Australia on a student visa, studied mechanics and now looking for work / sponsorship?
  6. Hey James, 3 years ago I decided to do the WHV and done the farm work for my second visa. I really wish I done the same as you and not just travelled and pissed up my money and actually spent my time and money on something other than partying for a year. Anyway... The IT industry is hard to get sponsored unless you have a paticular skill, like a software engineer, network specialist etc etc, I am just Desktop Support but luckily have a few certs and Vendor Certs however still only chance of me getting sponsored is a labour hire agreement which I am hoping to get soon otherwise I will need to return home ;( By the way, its unusual 3 months farm work is actually 3 months sometimes people get lucky but most of the time you will be on the "waiting list" in the working hostel and then get a week / two weeks work and then go back on the list and have to wait until your name is again at the top and start over again. Good luck with your travels and future in Oz.
  7. There is a special deptartment within immigration that handles stuff like this (overstayers, expired visa etc), The info in on the immi website and they will assess your situation and provide a bridging visa E when situations like this occour.
  8. Which, I think is a little high for the single lonely people,(me included) 2x would be sufficient I think.
  9. na 25000 pound would be $62500 or what ever it works out too
  10. That depends on you guys, if you want to meet more backpackers and maybe party more then bus it / stay in hostels, If you prefer sights and chilled nice just the 2 of you and maybe a few other "hippie" type travellers then campervan / buy a car and do it.. totally depends on what you enjoy. I am very anti campervan because of the huge prices they charge for them, the fact you have a set time to do stuff, and if u hit a roo you will be stufffed for the deposit... I bought a 1996 holden stationwagan and went to Kmart and purchased all our camping gear for 300 bucks, kmart is like argos maybe even cheaper all up it was 2500 and sold the car in darwin for 1800 so was a happy chap..
  11. You will need to stay in hostels unless u buy a car and do the camping stuff. hostels will be 60 bucks a night on average for the both of you in a dorm, the hotels woud be well anywhere from 180 to 300+ a night
  12. hey mate, have a look at the gapyear forums too.. Alot of backpackers on there. If I was you, I'd fly to sydney or Melbs and do the east coast in a couple of months have a great time. Decide if you could live in any of the places youve been on the way. If not then fly form cairns to perth and do the west coast - same again.. if not fly home... I just sorted it all for you... As for staying longer if you decide you want to live here, then thats a whole different ball game
  13. Do you have some cash saved to apply for a student visa? Probably cost around 6K(pound) for a years study but it will give you time to learn something new, build a relationship and then apply for defacto when he devorces he ex.. Obviously, a little age difference and your moving a long way from home, so you would have to make sure you financially secure so if things did not work out you could return home without no issues as a student visa you would only be able to work 40 hours a fortnight. Just an idea Also, I was dating a 40 year old woman who has 3 kids, I'm 28 I would like to have my own children one day, but she does not want anymore (Understandable) I may never meet anyone to have a family with but I ended things because I didnt want to be with someone knowing I could never have my own family.
  14. Honestly, I don't even know the reason why I was refused I never actually received the letter because I went travelling and because it took so long, I missed out on the 5 years experiance within 2 years and then I was going to go back home so just accepted it and moved on.(just noticed the online portal said "refused" or decliend or whatever ... In the end I started to study to get some quals and work exp so I am going to try again. I am doing IT Technician so we will see.. 30 days would be great.
  15. lol can I ask, how long you have been waiting and what trade are you having assessed? I done mine last year and it was refused, I'm going to resubmit it shortly and hoping they have improved on the 6+ month wait? edit: my bad english - friday tiredness..
  16. Or invest $5 million into the Australian economy and BAM!!
  17. I just quoted that from the diac website just to make me sound intelligent
  18. I didnt think you were allowed a WHV if you have dependant children. EDIT: If you have dependent children who will not accompany you at any time you must apply for a Working Holiday visa using the paper application.
  19. I would imagine there would be a bit of overtime for a panel beater, I know this cant be guaranteed but speak with your potential employer and see what the likely hood is, this could easily add 500 bucks a week to your pay.
  20. I'd say Bankwest if you are moving to WA, they have no monthly account fees if u bank 2k a month and you can withdraw cash from all the big banks free of charge.
  21. Wow.. Rip Off 457's are very common and pretty easy to obtain. I would not pay a migration agent for a 457 unless there were reasons it may be refused i.e age, previous visa issues etc.
  22. Hey, Thanks for that, I have never clicked on them tabs on the skillselect site. Thanks.
  23. Hi, Been in Aus for 3 years and finally hoping to get sponsored first thing in the new year. I was just wondering what details I need to provide my employer to arrange for the nomination? Things I assume: Passport CV / Resume CSOL Code fo the position Please let me know, remember I am only enquirying to what I need for nomination not the application. Thanks
  24. I would stick it out until you get that PR.. IIve too been here for 3 years and I may have to leave due to visa's - I feel like I have wasted them 3 years of my life. If I had to stay with a cheating partner for a short period of time, I would...
  25. Thanks Guys.. Thats what I assumed but thought I'd ask... In regards to me coming to Australia, I actually came here 3 years ago on a WHV for 2 years travelled all of australia, done the party thing and then settled down in Perth with no idea what my next plan was. I applied for TRA skills assessment around 7 months before my 2nd holiday visa expired - it took the 8 months to give me a outcome by this time I was already on my student visa to which I have already gained 2 additional certs and this has led to my job offer now. Me continuing the course will mean I wont be able to accept the job and its one of them jobs where I was in the right place at the right time. Thanks Guys.
