  1. I think as much as we all like to think we know everything, Sometimes a little proessional advice & knowledge goes a long way!! - even if we hate to admit it!! OP yes as others have mentioned it can lead to a permanent visa, but dont take it for granted that when your 457 expires (so to speak) you will have PR because you wont, It will take some work (Reading mostly) but it can be done.
  2. Did you all sit around a big table and compare who has the best car?
  3. Its not bad for a starting wage I suppose, my first job was 12k a year when I was 17/18 so if you start out in the force at a young age I think 19k is a good package, I think its around the 22k mark if you have previous policing experience.
  4. What is a self sponsored 457?
  5. The only issue with the above, is it would require your OH to work full time i Believe.
  6. The only option I really have is a 457 labour agreement with the same agency - Bascially there is a job for me but in order for them to provide the visa I need a contract for 6 months or more... I will know more information around Feb so will keep my fingers crossed. If that fails I may go and study some more.. I do have a trade that is on the list but not enough experience to get a skills assesment..
  7. Hi, Pretty sure you do not meet the requirements for a partner visa as it currently stands. Registering your relationship will probably waiver the requirement of the 12 month rule but you will still need evidence of joint accounts, leases, wills, insurance something that a defaco couple would have. If you go back to the UK and try and apply for a defacto visa at this stage, I would be concered it will be refused. I beleive you would need to provide police certs for all them countries, which is doable. I think your are underestimating the strict requirements of a partner visa..
  8. Rupert. Is a skills assessment mandatory for a 187? Cheers
  9. When does your 2 WHV end? I would imagine 6 months would be from the day of your first day at work with that employer weather or not you had time off. I dont think her being a student / part time work will have too much of an impact providing you can satisfy all the requirements of the Partner Visa. If your WHV ends soon, and you lodge your partner visa just before if expires, you will be placed on a bridging visa and I have been advised that while your partner visa is being decided you will have unlimited work rights so can stay with that employer
  10. I'd defo check it out, I think alot of people are assuming this would be ok, the reason I say this is because immigration see a WHV for holiday purposes with the ability to do temporary work in order to suppliment your travels, if you go onto a 457 clearly your intention is to work so when your apply for your 2nd WHV they may question it... I'm probably over thinking it but would be good to double check.
  11. As others have said the more perm visa are better, however as a tradie you may have more change of being sponsored under a 457 labour hire agreement, which nowaday alot of the recruitment agencies offer. its extremely cheap for them like 85 bucks I think and the visa itself is 385 (may have just increased) however, a 2 month contract could end and then you get 28 days to find another to leave...
  12. Well done, how come you have applied for SS and TRA etc etc if you were only applying for a 457? - sorry just me being nosey
  13. Hi, Just wondering if anyone has returned to the UK due to a visa issue or family problem when they did'nt want to and how did you find it? I have been here for 3 years now and I love it here, however my visa will end in March due to work and if I cannot get sponsorship in this time I will have to go home. I really am looking forward to a visit home to see my family and friends but getting a bit stressed that I cannot return to Australia. Just wondering if anyone else has been in this boat. Cheers
  14. Sorry but I am going to +1 this - I totally agree this this... Good Luck
  15. Good Idea SydneyMiles, howver you cannot register a relationship in all states so Emma, you will have to check first...
  16. I am just gonna throw this out there for an idea.... Have you looked at a TAFE course that could be used towards a degree ? some tafe course are around 5k a seimester / 10k a year and if you could get a diploma / associated degree surely next year when you get your PR you will only need to go to uni for 6 months a year? I know they do a nursing course but unsure which one... http://www.eti.wa.edu.au/course-catalogue/health-and-community-services.html Regards
  17. Sorry Emma, I know you don't want to hear it but you are very far off from a defacto relationship, Quote " living and paying bills etc with a partner instead of getting to know each other and dating then wanting to take the next step and live together " when you are at this state then maybe it's time you are defacto, but getting to know each other is dating... according to immigration. Do you have any savings? what about studying? its expensive like 6k for a year but it would give you time to get to know your boyfriend?
  18. Hi, Sorry if this sounds a little harsh but I am only being honest, You are not or have not been in a defacto relationship with your boyfriend, you have been dating. 1) You do not qualify for a 820 visa and I would be certain your application would be refused at this point in time. 2) You would need a full year on a tourist visa and these dont come easy, and that may come with a no further stay, which would mean you would have to return to the uk. 3) You will need to live together, share bills, expenses and leases + and be in a genuine relationship, continue this for at least a year. If you are on a tourist visa you would not be able to work so could this be possible? Options 1) He come to the UK for on a WHV and you be defacto for a year 2) You apply for an intent to marry visa, that way when you get to australia you have a period of time to arrange and get married (9 months i think)
  19. Mate immigration are closed from like 21st dec until 4th jan.. (they may not officially admit this, but they are
  20. Hey all, Why is there an option for 457 on the EOI? Is this purely to register your interest for potential employers / government agencies to offer a nomination? Just curious....
