  1. Yeah I plan to be flexible just trying to factor in prices of things and get as much knowledge as possible before we go, hostels look so dam expensive, everything looks so expensive ping to just go with the flow tho and see where's he wind takes us
  2. Thanks for your input guys ever bit of info helps. I'm flying into Brisbane and I've got about 6 months to get to Sydney for my next flight. Going to book bunk hostel in Brisbane for a few night when I arrive try to find my feet and then head off on our adventure. Hoping to head up to cairns fly over to perth(how much should I expect to pay for this?) then somehow get across to Adelaide then round and up to Sydney any pointers you guys can think of please share
  3. Me and my girlfriend are coming out to oz at the end of August going to travel around for about 6 months before we head off to NZ and Thailand. Can you think of anything we need to do? We have WHVs, booked flights. Saving our money up at the moe but trying to think what else we might need to do before we go? Any input would be great
  4. The search function is not working for me. I thought I would post some of my questions here as I've no idea who else to ask What is the common way that backpackers get around in oz? I live in London and the trains here cost a fortune, just wondering what to expect

    Hostels

What sites do people use to book hostels out in oz? I will be travelling with my girlfriend so looks as though its going to be quite expensive.
  6. thanks for the replies guys, applied for my visa at about 11am this morning (sunday) was expecting a reply in the week sometime. Got an email about 2pm saying it is granted! Are there any good websites for hostels in oz? i am going to visit sta travel and see what they can do for me with the flights. Im very excited to make this happen!
  7. i think i am going to go for the WHV because even tho i am going with a bit of money behind me i wouldnt mind coming home via Hawaii or somewhere cool like that and that wont be cheap! when should i apply for the visa if i am planing on going in august? and how do i go about doing the tax code and the aus bank account?
  8. i understand what you are saying about the WHV but i am 29 in November and the WHV is only available until you are 30 so there is not much chance i am going to use it again. i will look into the tourist visa thing though, can you get a WHV out there if you need it? or do you have to get it in the UK before you go?
  9. So first of all hello everyone, I'm Kevin I'm 28 and from London. I have just had 6 months unpaid leave from my place of work agreed along with just over a months paid leave. So I'm going to pack my backpack and me and my girlfriend are heading for Australia! Hopefully around August time but we are quite flexible on that. I don't know much about what to do, got a few questions obtaining the visa? Should I get a company to do it for me? Booking flights? Is a round the world flight flexible on the dates that you travel? Any advice on flights would be helpful. Between us we are going to be taking over £15k so hopefully won't have to work too much out there but will do it for the experience of being in oz. and if I have a bit of money left would be nice to come home via somewhere nice like Hawaii or somewhere like that. are there any useful guides I can find here? Any info is much appreciated. thanks in advance
  10. Thank you for your info i will look at hostels but would prob prefer to do a little bit of everything and see which suit, is there a hostel website or anything or do you just turn up and find one? also is there a certain time of year that flight are more/less expensive?
  11. wow thanks for your input everyone. i will take it all on board, i will also check out the backpacking forum. is it worth hiring a campervan to get around? or getting a car and a tent? im so excited to make this happen.
  12. is there a section on the site for new users with answers to FAQ's?
  13. looking to take £10,000 possibly £13,000 not sure how far this will stretch out there for two of us! i need info to help me out and im glad i found this forum.
  14. Hi, I'm very new here and this is my very first post so hello all. Me and my girlfriend are looking at coming out to Oz around august time this year on a one year working visa. I would be grateful for any information as i am still at the first stages of planning this. I am an electrician and she has a degree in communication and media. We are 28 and 24, dont know the first thing about oz but are very fed up of rainy london! Want to travel a little but want to see if a permanent move is something that would be good for us. so please point me in the right direction and fill me up with all the info im going to need. My main questions are what area to go to and where do you stay? rent a room? hostels? Thank you Kevin & Sarah
