  1. I think the UK developer market gets skewed by contracting which is where most of the money is. Because Australia has a more strict implementation of an IR35-a-like law, contracting isn't as popular, which drives up perm salaries? That's my theory, anyway. Plus, the Aussie dollar is still overvalued... I hope. I sort of expect it to eventually correct to somewhere between 2 and 2.5, especially if we stay in the EU. context: I'm an Australian who moved to the UK in 2007, possibly moving back to Australia late this year or early next year.
  2. I agree (to a degree) with MancGeek. Contract IT rates in the UK appear to be significantly higher than in Australia - eg, just as an example, Senior .NET Dev roles for around £500/day seem to be common enough but haven't seen much more than $700/day in Oz. Also as I understand it, there are fewer opportunities for lowering your tax burden in Australia as the IR35 equivalent is better defined (better as in more understandably) and captures more people. With the AUD:GBP exchange rate finally getting to back to 'normal' (when I moved to the UK in 2007 it was about $2.80!), I am struggling to find the incentive in the short term at least to make the move (and a temporary 2 year'ish move it would be). And I have the lure of family etc! I think only tech hub cities in the states (eg San Fran, Seattle) and probably New York can match UK contract rates.
  3. I've done this - I'm the Aussie. We applied for the partner visa for Australia in June 2014 and my UK citizenship in October 2014. Citizenship and passport acquired December 2014, partner visa granted in April 2015. No dramas at all. Arguably your husband intends to stay in the UK long term but wishes to spend a few years in Australia with his spouse? I have no intention of returning to Australia to live permanently, but it is impossible to predict what future circumstances may bring.
  4. Thanks everyone! Our CO was WP. Looking forward to getting out to Aus when the time is right!
  5. Granted today, 9 months and 14 days. Is this the longest of recent applications?
  6. We applied June 17, still waiting. I guess that makes it 9 months and 9 days?
  7. Adding in my 2c after a lot of lurking on this thread, and maybe to reassure JonnoM a bit... we applied on 17 Jun last year, didn't get a CO (WP) until October for some reason, but did medicals and police check as prompted by the online immi system in July (which is a bit early?) so maybe there wasn't anything for them to say until then. Still no grant, but it's not yet been 9 months! Will see what happens.
  8. Would you be able to move to another EU country for a while? The bar is usually lower there because of an EU free movement directive: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Free_Movement_of_Citizens_Directive You might be also be able to Surinder Singh it, assuming this is still a valid option (not sure if it is): https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/surinder_singh_for_dual_british#incoming-469986
