  1. Yeah a lot can happen when you go home for a few months..These fees are from may this year onwards.
  2. Hi all, Recently returned to perth and was shocked that you need ARTC (Australian recognised trade cert) for all jobs now. I left last last feb and don't remember recruiters being so strict. On further research it costs $2850 to get it done, I was working as a fitter machinist before I left in feb. This cant be confused with the TRA you need for migration purposes. I have PR and this comes as a blow as it takes 3 months min to get. Is it recoverable at the end of tax year? Am I wrong or has anyone a similar situation? DO YOUR HOMEWORK PEOPLE BEFORE COMING OUT! Derek
  3. Hey Jim, Just have to let you know its winter here now for past couple of months and bloody freezing at that!Flu season also and they were offering free jabs at work today!Which was good of them..On the upside i love it here and can look forward to sitting outside during the summer after a bbq or beach and enjoy many a cool beer!!![ Good luck with the move.Derek.
  4. Your best bet is to try applying through an agent who will know how to put you on the right track, state sponsorship is your best bet.Good luck!

  6. So i guess im in the same boat as you,im connecting in london with singapore air from dublin with BMI.Guess i should have done my homework on this one.Derek.
  7. Hey upthedubs, This may not be relevant to you but my parents applied for a visa back in 1986 when ireland was in the ****s.My sisters brother and i were so excited about the move,in the end they didnt go for it and as a result my Dad had to work away from home.Eventually the family fell apart and my parents split(thats another long story).Anyways the seed was planted in me and 8yrs ago i went to oz for a year and loved it!Have been planning to go back ever since and am finally goin out jan 17th 2012 with partner and child.Im worried bout the whole thing but were looking at it as an adventure so all i can say is chin up, PMA ETC..Derek.
  8. Hey there, I got a quote from ras-group.ie for 70 cft ,€650 with customs clearance fees on top around 250aud.This was the best price out of the lot,i think they charge a lot more for smaller amounts cause all id be sending is a high pallet of stuff. Fecking money racket..
  9. You're right,I should think before posting.I lived in oz 7 years ago and was younger with less cares.Grown up a bit since and have a child so i guess you need a quality living space especially when rents are the way they are.:shocked:Derek.
  10. One thing to keep in mind is you wont spend as much time cooped up inside like this part of the world.Australia is about the outdoors and with getting up at the crack of dawn all id want to do is hit the scratcher(bed) after a long day working.Morale of the story is who cares what the house is like!
  11. Hey pipp, I used that site as info for my visa app.Got the visa but prices they have up are a bit scary.Derek...
  12. Hi Becky, Yeah i never thought of that, its just i was only there on a working holiday last time and guessed they would erase tfns after a number of years. So id say ill have to sort something out when i get there. Thanks anyway! Derek.
  13. Hi all, Just wondering has anyone used an ABN in the past?I worked in Sydney 7 years ago and could only get work with an ABN,problem is i never settled my tax with the aussie government and went home.I also worked in Brisbane and paid tax but never claimed it back.Im Irish and like a lot of my fellow countrymen i didnt bother to clear this up before i left cause i could get away with it unlike people from the Uk who,I think, had to settle with the taxman before they left.Maybe im wrong! I have secured my Visa for WA and plan to travel there in Janurary but am ****ting it at the thought of a huge tax bill when i look for a new taxfile number! Maybe i deserve it but is anyone else out there in the same boat?Derek:eek:
  14.
