  1. you can still shop after 8.00 pm in the UK
  2. Indeed ,good answer, some people will like it some wont, im not set to go back .but wondered if a more busy place may help. Frankly the thought of another winter here with the dark nights doesn't appeal at all. As you know its like ghost town on a night, we got turned away from a coffee shop at 7.40 as they wanted to close! I /we miss the evening culture so another state or city might help. Its not for everyone and my wifes not as opposed as my thread might have conveyed, its not a case of you go and im not, it would be prudent to get citizenship though and this will enable the kids to come and go. Thanks
  3. Try ITA matrix, we just discovered it and they were the cheapest,
  4. Thanks for remembering those that don't have Christmas happy holidays
  5. Well done cpt Risky, Good luck
  6. yes much of what you say makes sense, however you haven't been to Perth so can only answer in a limited way, thanks tho for the input. My business is something that cant be replicated here due to house configuration and how people live, Im in my forties so as you know it takes a long time to set out contacts and similar again. Im just trying to find out other peoples feelings or similar if they having been in a similar position Thanx again
  7. Indeed good advice, although I must point out I do not have mortage,( Yes im mystified too) but we are moving house as our rent is 650 per week which is a good chunk of cash, so all will help. Brisbane may be the Answer, thanks for the help
  8. Yes im in the souless north, and construction has fallen on hard times. I don't mind working hard I just don't have anything to show for it. Last year I did 100 k the wife works part time. We are skint, we don't drink, party, and haven't been on holiday anywhere yet .Some monies were spent establishing ourselves but it seems to be a bottomless pit here, Not only that whenever we are able to eat out we are treated like we owe them a favour, lol May try another state
  9. Hi there when I applied for my visa I was offered a fast track due to my trade and the conditions were that I stayed in Perth for 2 years. I have now done my sentence lol
  10. Well its a funny one. I visited Brisbane in 2000 and fell for it hook line and sinker, cheap houses nice city, met steve Irwin and so decided that's where I was going. Fast forward 12 years and 2 kids later along with a constant nagging of the other half we applied for our PR visas and were sent to Perth. I left a business in the UK during the recession and thought it was a shrewd move, I was also concerned about immigration and where it was all heading etc. Here I am 2 years and 3 months in and I am physically and mentally knackered. The high cost of living and the downturn in construction along with the upturn in construction in the UK as indicated by fellow uk workers has made me think of returning. However this is where my wife is of a different opinion. It took me years to persuade her to come here and now she doesn't want to return to the Uk.I t would probably be prudent to stay until we get our full citizenship but financially its crippling us.I was thinking of going back to re establish my old business and make some money to return. It was a niche business and very rewarding financially and I know it can be rekindled. I also miss the late shopping eating culture, a good curry, good customer service, and to be frank here in Perth its boring as . Has anyone been in the same situation, should we go to Brisbane, would that as a city and place be more happening. Similar experiences appreciated, and please no off topic such as , immigration in the Uk, or Aus v Uk etc Thanks guys

    Tassie Talk

Where I lived up north you wouldn't go out after dark....ever
  15. An almost identical reflection of Perth ... Except it gets dark early here duuh...
  16. Yeah the Aussi dream of having a large back yard with a shed is long gone. Here in Perth its bums on seats or pack em in , just think of all that services tax, its just like the uk. I was working with an old aussi guy who wisely stated that they were creating tomorrows problem today. They just seem to smash down all the forest and quickly build lots of soulless suburbs. really sad
  17. i am at college and just finished my builders reg. In my group there are several management figures from perths biggest builders. They have all said they are down 30 percent and have asked all staff to take holidays etc. I have been here 2 and a half years and been very busy, last month i worked a week and a half. All the supervisors i work for are really woried about their job. Last week one of Perths biggest builders laid of 70 people with a view to more next year. A good friend of mine who is a construction manager at Perths biggest builder said they are trimming staff right down next year,I have no work booked in the new year. When i came here there were hundreds of ads on gumtree asking for brickies. If you go on gumtree now brickies are looking for work. Its dire. Yes there are building sites every where but no ones buying. Ross north group have an office full of draughties doing nothing at the moment. As they say here it peaks and troughs. The Uk is booming so im heading back. Some tradies are going to sydney or melbourne, but its expensive too. Fortunately for those cominh here its cheap house rentals at te moment. good luck to those coming out
  18. nice to read Bristol man makes me feel better about going back in March. Perth construction is on its arse and the future dont look good,
  19. Hi guys need some advice, due to the construction downturn i am going back to the UK in march to rekindle my business that i had there. I intend to stay for several months and return to Perth.Does anyone know if i buy a one way ticket will emigration/customs prevent me as they suspect i am avoiding my Tax responsibilities. I have payment plan in place . All help on the matter appreciated, thanks
  20. Shame about the colour .... Now I see why there so cheap. Lol
  21. Good advice on this post. Personally I would sit tight in the U.K. for a couple of years. I have friends in upper management for the biggest builders in Perth, last week they finished 70 people. Their forecast is that things will get worse next year. We,v been here for two years and it's been hard work , we don't party, drink( Just a Little lol) and we have gone backwards financially. We came with 40 k and have 10 left. We are thinking of cutting our losses and returning. Its a great place to live if you have money and there are some here with ridiculous amounts of money. However it will chew you up and spit you out also. in the Uk I had a vey profitable business and took time off with the family etc . Here it's full on work, maybe if we'd have come a few years ago when it was cheaper, maybe it would have worked. Hope it all works out for newbies. It may also be wise to take a course in tactical and evasive action driving techniques, lol You can also tell the poms on the road because they say thanks for letting them pull out. Lol good luck
  22. I agree , I originally wanted to go to Brisbane but was fast tracked to Perth ,having been to both, Brisbane wins hands down. Perth is over priced and going through a serious downturn. Iv never worked as hard in my life and see nothing for it. If your husband applies as main applicant he needs to choose joinery alone. The Aussies simply do one trade and do not multi trade. Good luck.
  23. Hi there , furniture here in Perth is rubbish. Good stuff is available but for a small fortune. There is also one obligatory colour"brown" dark brown or off brown. They also have the obligatory beer holder on the arms , good luck with the move
  24. Hi there , this is a good time for rental In perth . There is even negotiation on price. This is different from 2 years ago when we turned up at rentals with others who were openly bidding for them.We looked at stuff I'd be embarrassed to let my dog stay in. Rent for at least 6 months and get a feel for suburbs. We stayed in a long term holiday let then got a letter from them which acted as a kind of history. We also found that if you paid several months up front that helps to get a rental. Hope all works out and be prepared for the driving, lol
