  1. Hey mate I came as a plasterer . Let me know if you need anything, my advice to you is , learn solid wall plastering well , here in perth they stick on 80 meters a day, not for the faint hearted. No skimming over plasterboard, good luck pal
  2. Hi ,we've been here for two years and are looking to return due to the downturn, I'm in construction but it's very different from the Uk.Your husbands lack of a verifiable trade may mean it is easier for location visas in your name. They do not multi trade here and he would be labeled a " handy man". If he has done say brickwork over the years, joinery, or plastering he needs to pick one that he does the most and build up evidence of his work history ie business bank account, website , and references.I came as a plasterer but do mostly renovations and maintenance work. We find it seriously expensive, and pretty boring . I'm not getting into any debates about uk v aus this is our experience to present. Good luck with the move. Happy to help if needed , cheers
  3. possibly.....giz a job....i can do that
  4. Yeah i gotta look at all options, sydney appeals as Perth is probably not exactly "exciting" . Thanks for the input
  5. Latest accurate Perth promo film
  6. This a great and honest opinion of Perth. Although i would love to know where you got great service, we find it generally appalling in restauraunts etc,lol hey ho, good luckwith your next adventure
  7. Hey just stumbled on this post , very intersting. i spent years trying to get to Australia and after 2 years of being here its got so tough,Construction is well down and im scratting for work. All perth has done is drain our savings, we dont even live extravegantly. I left a good business in the UK and hear its doing really well. One thing i will say is that the focus on youngsters and learning to support themselves when working is excellent. I do worry though about the migrant problem in europe and wonder whether its the right thing to go back.
  8. im in construction and its on its arse, i might have to go back. Managers here are expecting things to get worse, 70 laid off this week, hear uk is good at the moment so might go back
  9. Hi i wondered if you know what happens re citizenship, i know you have to do a 4 year stint and then apply,if we leave for a couple of years do we have to stsrt again or is the 2 years we have done taken into account, thanks
  10. absolutely spot on thanks, its better than i thought, cheers
  11. Hey there need a bit of advice, iv been here in perth for 2 years and working in construction. Due to a severe downturn i may have to go back to the UK to work as im told by friends business is good there in the UK at the moment. I came here on a 176 skilled visa and have permanant resisdency. Does anyone know how long i can go back for without having to re apply for immigration. I dont want to go back but im down to a sporadic 2 days a week work etc, and as you all know that just about buys a take away on a Friday.I have good friends who are managers in large construction companies here who say they are preparing for things to get worse. Gotta look at all the options. Thanks in advance
  12. The best, most brutally honest video of perth and all that it hasnt got, lolllllllll:laugh:
  13. Great for the burglars and good ol pedestrian road accidents, saves heaps on curtains,..... cant understand it myself :err:
  14. hi yes approx 50 dollars a square meter or 20 quidish but expect that to fall as builders are tightening up due to a down turn, good luck
  15. Hi i saw your post and would like to convey my experience at the moment,I came her just over 2 years ago and they were screaming out for brickies here, even letting laborers put down bricks. Now a recession has or is hitting perth and work is drying up. For the first time in 2 years i am finding that iv only got 2 to 3 days work at best. When you first come its tough gangs try it on and offer 250 a day to start with this sounds a lot but is almost half of what brickies are or should be on,also i had the usual game of trying to get paid etc. They also use profiles here and work is full on from 6am until 2 or 3 depending on the main guys mood that day. It killed me for the first few months. I went on to do maintenance which a lot of english do because the aussis are trained to do one job and thats it, if you say you can do several trades they just go all misty eyed and simply dont believe it is possible. Work is so bad im thinking of returning to the uk until things pick up.I have just spent ayear at college gettng my builders registration because you are not allowed to build without it. if you need any advice please ask. I eont run the place down but be frank. One thing i will say they are incredibly focused on youngsters learning a trade and support them all the way.Something that they would never get in the UK. Once your over their inability to drive you can cope, good luck
  16. Hi im in construction ,tell your other half to forget everything, he has to start again. They still plumb like they did 20 years ago in the uk, he,ll be fine. shocked but fine lol

  20. Hey Dan . I came out 2 years ago. There is a shortage of brickies here.when you first come go on gumtree . You'll get work straightaway. What you will find as is the way in construction everywhere, Guys will set you on but will offer to pay around 250 a day to start. This is low. On average brickies are doing around 400 a day but it's hard work staring at 6 o'clock in 40 degrees in summer,Make sure you agree by email or text your pay as many I found change there initial agreement. Payment is usually fortnightly. There are some that are looking for freshies off the plane to exploit as I found. You can generally suss them out. Most of the guys I know who came as brickies choose to do other work as I did. Good luck mate
  21. Ditto . Telephone dale alcocks as soon as you get here. Brickinying very different here and takes a while to adapt. Watch for the sharks.(on land) lol
  22. Hi sorry for late reply, construction is booming here and carpenters are in demand. Perth is just one big construction site, so work is no issue, regards
  23. Perth is booming and lots of painters here, though you need to be a registered painter believe it or not, regards Jules
