  1. There's a brilliant waffle place on the main road south of Devonport if you're going on the ferry. (Their waffles are massive!) And a great bakery for early morning ferry passengers at Elizabethtown. Port Arthur really needs a whole day, but if you can't get there early enough, your ticket will get you in the second day for free! The Airwalk at Tahune forest was good; 50m up in the tree canopy!! We were there a few months back but I guess it would be even better in summer. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  4. Aye! You can take the girl out of Lanarkshire.............
  5. Briggs & Stratton engine are pretty much standard for small engine mowers. Reliable, and easy to service when required. Or splash the cash and step up to more expensive Honda or Stihl engined machinery. Unless you really need a self propelled mower, I'd avoid them in favour of a decent push mower. 6. We're in Watsonia. Approx $2kpcm for an older weatherboard 4 bed house, 2 family rooms, 3 bathrooms, large gardens, double garage and outbuildings. Hurstbridge train line; 45 mins by train to the city, about 25mins to Collingwood. All the usual local amenities nearby. Also large shopping centres aplenty within a 5 or 10 minute drive. Close to the ringroad, close to the Kinglake hills for drive out to the countryside. We love the area.
  7. The GERS report is flawed in many ways. It doesn't take into account the Scottish contributions to UK infrastructure which would otherwise be foregone in an independence situation. It doesn't take into account the vast sums of money spent by Westminster on behalf of Scotland which Scotland gets no say in (eg Trident). How big is the UK deficit by comparison, yet it isn't published across the biased press as a black hole? If these "black holes" are really as bad as they are made out to be, then it has happened on Westminsters watch. Scotland has been a part of the Union for just over 300 years, and has had its own parliament for around 5% of that time, with relatively little muscle to enforce changes which would benefit Scotland. It's the UK system which is broken. Independence gives Scotland a chance to change the way things are done. Fearmongering about the future based on the way things are done now is a flawed way of presenting an anti-independence argument. Changes will happen eventually. It was the pensioners vote which swung the last independence referendum because of all the scare stories about their pensions. Those pensioners wont be around forever, and the large younger pro-independence vote will grow. Scotlands Black hole? A viable country? Oil revenue has apparently fallen 97%. Yet Scotlands GDP has only fallen 0.45% as a result. Every Country operates on a deficit basis (except for Norway I think; you know, North Sea oil rich, population around 5m). The ability to service the deficit is what matters.
  8. There is no nationwide equivalent of DVLA. Each State has its own rules and fees. Stamp duty will vary depending on the price of the vehicle. Probably best to google the details for the State you are going to. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. Get the shippers in to give you a quote. They will tell you what you need and will give various options for packing. We went with a complete end to end package. They came in, packed everything in boxes, loaded the container, delivered it all at the other end, and unpacked most stuff too. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. We're in Melbourne and we use a few of the small portable 5-fin oil heaters in bedrooms with no heating and they do a great job. Low on power usage too. The kids haven't complained yet! The bedrooms are quite big too.
  11. Assuming you've lived in the UK for more than 3 consecutive months, then the answer is yes. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. Modern TV signal receiving equipment from the UK works fine in Australia as long as the regional setting is adjusted correctly. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. Rental near any beach will depend very much on the funds available for rent. It's quite pricey, the closer you get to the sea. Commuting year-round by motorbike is absolutely doable. Far easier year-round here than in most parts of the U.K. Far less ice on the roads for a start! Safe lane filtering is perfectly legal in Victoria, usual caveats apply, watch out for those that haven't watched out for you and you should hopefully have a quick and safe commute. Just watch out for tram tracks, especially in the wet. We are in Watsonia at the end of the ringroad. A trip to the beach at weekends is 45 mins to Edithvale at the end of Springvale Road, about 45 mins through the city to St Kilda, and maybe 35 mins via Ringroad to Williamstown or Altona. It takes far less time from our area to get on the bike and disappear into the hills to the North and East though! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  16. There's always a festival of some sort on in the city at weekends. Head to Fed Sq. Museums, lane ways, city circle tram, little penguins at the end of the pier at St Kilda, street entertainers, the War Memorial in the botanic gardens is fab. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. Not in my experience. Been a Dell user for about 15 years. Used to be a heavy battery user, but not so much these days. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. Officeworks Centrecom Dell online, check their refurbished items for some bargains Same with Apple if you don't need/want a PC, but prefer Mac. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. The joys of renting. The next place you find might be a hundred times better! How are they going to recompense you for the incinvenience for open house inspections etc? Especially since you won't be there. Are they going to be using your possessions in the photography for the house sale? Otherwise how are they going to shift a piano and water bed? 20. Identity theft has many uses to the criminal fraternity. Quite simply in the Facebook example, they gain the trust of your friends network which in turn could expose your friends to identity theft too. Think about how easy it might be for a message to appear in your friends feed which they think is from you, they click on that link to "an old school photo" and BOOM! Their PC is now ransom-locked.
