  1. Hi all, we are moving in the first half of 2015 and just researching shipping household items, I have heard that some UK televisions don't work in Aus, but just wondered if anyone has any experience of this? We have a Samsung smart TV. Thanks for your help!
  2. Eeek exciting!! Good luck with everything :-) where in Aus are you heading to?

    Here We Go

Good luck! Let us know how you get on! :cute:
  4. Thanks so much for the tip, it's good to know you have flown many times with infants so it can't be that bad! ;-)
  5. you're welcome! :-) your UK experience will stand you in good stead, I'm sure you will have no issue securing work, just have to make sure you put yourself out there with recruiters and do lots of online applications! It can be tedious but I reckon you will have no problem! Good of luck with the move, such an exciting time!
  6. Hi Hazel, I cant offer any specific advice I'm afraid, but one thing that has been suggested is that LinkedIn is a solid place to start for advertising yourself. My husband works in Corporate insurance and finds LinkedIn an ideal tool for job applications and profiling yourself internationally. Another website to use is seek.com.au - you will find all relevant job opportunities there and can create a profile for yourself for recruiters to find. Good luck in the move, hope it goes smoothly and you settle in quickly! :-)
  7. thanks for the reply! I haven't come across that yet! :biglaugh:
  8. yes it certainly feels impossible that's for sure, it may be worth contacting education recruiters beforehand with your CV and proof of visa , it may not get you a job as soon as you land but it will certainly help get the ball rolling. Good of luck with your move! Kiama is gorgeous, I love the blow hole there :-)
  9. Hi Pink Butterfly, First if all have to say, I LOVE Kiama, it's beautiful, you are very lucky to be moving there! What made you decide on Kiama? I dont know know much about schooling I'm afraid, but when it comes to accommodation, they are normally pretty good with overseas applicants, if you have any copies of rental references and/or mortgage statements to take with you, that will help tremendously, sometimes ( if you really want the place) it is worth offering a few months rent upfront if you do not have work lined up, and that often does the trick. What type of visas do you have? and what type of work will you be looking for? I know Hays Recruitment International offer a service to those who have their visas and are moving, they can give you info in salary expectations and even line up interviews for you before you get there! It depends on what line of work you do and what type of visa you hold. It's bound to feel nerve wracking, but it's better to do something, than nothing at all! :-)
  10. Thank you for sharing your experience, definitely food for thought! :-)
  11. I think people write that because the chances of babies flying in first class are a lot more minimal- not that it matters of course, babies will cry wherever they are and of course there is every chance they could be!
  12. Thank you, you, I actually already did that and learnt the hard way! Lol once we we return to Aus, that's it, never going anywhere! Will you you ever make it back you think?
  13. Let's have a look at this 'ME' culture you are referring to and let's discuss the word IRONY. This post was intended for the practical advice from others who have travelled with their infants, in an effort to AVOID the very thing you are speaking of- therefore expressing a desire to contain as much discomfort to not only the child but also OTHER PASSENGERS. Any intelligent person can derive from this a lack of selfishness, and thereby a lack of the 'ME' culture you are referring to! Now comes the part where you learn the understanding of IRONY; because in your attack ( which I may add, is for no good reason, given that clearly this post is part of proactive approach to flying with an infant) you may notice that all you are doing is indulging your own desires to Troll what was, a perfectly harmless and understanding thread and tarnish it with your own negativity. Which suggests that only SELFISH party or member of this greedy 'ME' culture is you, Echidna66. Can only assume that there must be something missing or very wrong in your life, if you feel the need to attack people online, when they are clearly not guilty of the very thing you complain of, it doesn't even make sense! Quit hijacking threads with your obvious issues and get real.
  14. Where are you all living in Aus with people publicly in their PJ's??? Just curious....
  15. We are using Concept Australia, absolutely brilliant service.
  16. hi Natalie, try Sydney forum too http://www.sydneyforum.com
  17. I'm sure I do not know anyone who would ignore their child while in distress, particularly on a long haul flight! As most people, when flying with an infant, that's the VERY thing they are wanting to avoid, so a little compassion wouldn't go amiss. It is PUBLIC transport at the end of the day, so the choice is either to suck it up- or go first class. It's funny how some people believe they are more important than others while traveling in the same cabin?!! Baffles me.
  18. Hey Ksarah, it it may be worth looking at Domayne, http://domayneonline.com.au
  19. Hi all, just wondered if any of my fellow poms live in Kings Langley in Sydney?
  20. It would probably cost less for you to get on a plane and drop to her in person!
  21. thanks Quoll! That's amazingly brave to travel on your own with young ones, I am not that brave! Yes I think the jet lag will be a little difficult, I just can't wait to get back and settle in for their new routine! Luckily we are staying at my in-laws on arrival so will be very comfortable while we wait for our goods to arrive, find work and find a house! Eeeek and all before baby has turned 1! I will not be going anywhere for a VERY long time after that!
  22. wow that's very good value! Thanks for the info! It's hard to believe anything where long haul in concerned is so cheap! Brilliant! We always fly with emirates due to the extra baggage allowance and slightly more leg room than other airlines, ( at least it seems that way?!) so let's hope it's the same when we come to fly! Thanks for the info :-)
  23. We are using concept as well, totally recommended, good luck with your move!
  24. Yes definitely affordable, you may even find a 2 bedder for that if you are lucky. I have family in Wollstonecraft which has a train station to the city ( under 15 min journey) Crows Nest can be within walking distance of Wollstonecraft and is perfect if you like the cafe and restaurant culture, you will be spoilt for choice. It's a leafy suburb which offers the best of both worlds in regards to living specification. Accommodation can be expensive, however there is plenty in that price range on offer. good luck in your move! It's easy to think of Things as overly expensive in Sydney but it's important to remember it's all relative to income, and based on your job prospects, you will be absolutely fine. Biggest tip: do not convert the cost of things into £££'s in your head, it will give you the wrong perception. Forget the £££££ and live in $$$$$
  25. the big spiders like huntsman are not really put off by spider repellent unfortunately, but the good news you will hardly see them, I only saw one in three years and it was in my post box, and not in the house. Most places have screen doors and a lot of apartments have them on the windows too, I never actually saw a single spider inside the house! It's only returning to the UK we have been bombarded by the little critters! And the huntsman yes are big, very big in fact but not aggressive or poisonous . It's the little ones you need to be wary of.
