  1. Hi, I need to ship my fiancee's engagement ring from Sydney to London but finding it really difficult to find a courier that will insure it up to its full value (A$15,000). Can anyone suggest/recommend a courier? So far I've tried Auspost, Fedex, DHL and a couple of smaller ones (which I'm not that confident about...). Many thanks! Matty
  2. Hi Claire, my boyfriend and I moved here last month, both 30 and looking to meet other people to extend our social circle. Be great to meet new people.. Sara
  3. Not to worry, I'm going to try this Toggle company (http://www.togglemobile.co.uk) and see how it goes. It gives you multiple local numbers (in different countries i.e. a local UK one for folkes back home to ring and a local Oz one for Oz-based people to ring, at fairly local rates) on one SIM, its PAYG, allows you to keep your UK number and avoids vast majority of roaming charges. Will let you know how it goes! Thanks for the help
  4. Thanks Quoll, good idea on the UK PAYG option. And yes, I will of course get the phone unlocked; my question was more specifically about the Telstra 3G network (called NextG?) - I just wondered if anyone had taken an iphone4S out there from the UK and had any issues getting 3G data speeds on Telstra?
  5. Hi - we're moving to Sydney in 10 days and trying to sort out phone contracts - I can see there's loads of different pre-paid operators, but I'm really keen on keeping my UK number connected while I'm in Oz, without paying my UK contract (with vodafone). Anyone know what options there are? Or if this is even possible? Also I'll be taking my UK iphone4S - I saw that Telstra had upgraded their 3G service last year, does anyone know if there's a sure-fire way of telling if your phone will work on the upgraded service? I've tried Telstra's checker service (here - http://www.telstra.com.au/mobile/networks/network_info/check-imei.html) but it doesn't recognise my IMEI. I've got a post on the Apple forums, but thought I'd ask here as well.
  6. Sorry the other question was whether anyone knows an insurer in the UK who will provide cover for the ring for the 30 days before we leave for Oz??
  7. Hi, first time so please go easy I did search the site but couldn't find any articles on this in the last few years, feel free to redirect me if I missed it! We're moving to Sydney on a working holiday visa in a month's time and I've just got engaged (woo!). I'm trying to find a way of insuring the engagement ring (worth c£10k) while we're in Sydney but its proving quite hard. Here are the avenues I've tried so far: Home contents insurance in UK. I'm renting out my London flat so need landlord insurance on that property, and these policies won't cover anything of c£10k value. Travel insurance. Won't cover £10k value Specialist jewellery insurance e.g. TH March. Won't cover unless I'm physically living, working and located in UK. Home contents insurance when in Oz. Not sure of this yet but seems that they will not consider me to be a Oz resident (working holiday visa means we're officially still UK residents) Can anyone suggest an insurers please? So far I've tried Direct Line, Hiscox, TH March, Highworth and a few others. The only one that seems to have a policy I could use is "insurance4everyone"... very reasonably priced but naturally I'm alarmed by a) the name and b) the lack of any online reviews from customers. Help!
