  1. Thanks Julie! If I've got all the necessary documents when she gets a CO, will the approval be fast? Or its a no one knows game?
  2. Hi guys, My mum lodged her 143 visa on 9 July 2014 and we are still waiting for a case officer. She stays with me for about 3 months and then returns home for a few weeks before she returns. Would she be able to get her medicals and police checks done ahead so that she doesn't have to wait much longer when she gets a case officer? Also, how long does it take from the allocation of case officer to visa approval? This wait is frustrating..It was 18 months when we first put in an application for her and how it's stretched out to 27 months!!!!
  3. Hi guys, My mum lodged a 143 visa on 9 Jul 2014 and is with me I'm Aus at the moment. She is due to leave the country in May but will be back again in early June. I understand that it's taking up to 23 months for a case officer to be appointed at the moment. As such, I was wondering if there was anyone that could advise on how long the case officer would take to approve her visa-I'm also thinking of getting medicals etc done early for her to avoid having to pay for another flight. Also, would I be able to get an appointment with Centrelink before her being appointed a case officer? I'm guessing not. Any input would be helpful. Thanks
  4. Hi Alan, I'm pretty sure I put it them down as married. The reason why I didn't apply for the both of them was because my dad was still working and also I wasn't able to afford the cost for both parents.
  5. Hi guys, I submitted a 143 application for my mum and received an acknowledgement a few weeks ago. When I first submitted it, I Was going to apply for just my mum and not my dad due to financial reasons. However, with the AUD this low and my dad wanting to retire, I was wondering if it's possible to add my dad onto my mum's application? Would that be a problem? Thanks!
  6. Hi Steve, Her application was lodged on 9th July so not long after yours. I'm guessing your letter was pretty generic as well? Just a basic summary of the applicant's name, address, Spouse etc? Ie. no timeline given?
  7. Hi Steve2, My mum received her acknowledgement letter this morning. I thought that she would be given a timeline of when the documents are required from her but I'm guessing that I'm wrong. The letter pretty much just acknowledged her application? Is that right? When will she know when she needs to submit her documents?
  8. Hi Barry, What happens then when the $10K run out? Will they check on me as the sponsor when my mum gets centrelink payments? I think that works better than keeping that $10K with the government with them paying you a taxible interest! Am I right on this?
  9. Hi guys, I sent my mum's 143 application in on 2th July and it was received by the department on 9th July(I found that out through Auspost's tracking website). It's beena month and a week but I've yet to hear from them. Is that normal?? Also, if the department decides to increase the price of the visa, would applications that have been received (but not acknowledged) be affected? I hope not!!
  10. Yeah, I'd like to know too. I sent my mum's application in on 3rd July and it was received on the 9th and there's been no acknowledgement since?? Is that normal??
  11. hi guys, Quick question. I'm sending off my mum's 143 paperwork tomorrow but how long does it take for the department to deduct the payment from my credit card? Thanks everyone!
  12. HeySTeve2, I dont think they will...because they already increased it in April..I'm only just guessing.
  13. Hi guys, I'm in the middle of filling out form 40 for my mum's 143 application but the amount of paperwork one has to go through is ridiculous! I can only afford to sponsor my mum at the moment and my dad will have to follow after a few years. I have the following questions for everyone though and hopefully someone will be able to answer them. 1)From what I understand, the 143 visa can be lodged from Aus but you wont be entitled to a bridging visa-Is that correct? Only reason being if we had to lodge it offshore, she has to leave the country, move flights etc-Too much of a hassle! Ie. It is fine to lodge in Australia..just no bridging visa...and she will be able to come back as a tourist whilst the visa is being processed. 2)My mum has been here on an eletronic travel authority (601) but there is no visa number attached to it(I think-on her document there's no visa number). What should I put for that on the form as it asks for a visa number?? 3)I'm not an Australian citizen but PR.....Should I put country of residence as Australia or the country that I am a citizen of? I'm guessing Australia because it says residence and not citizenship. (I am working full time here) 4)In the character part of form 80 (Part L), it asks if anyone included in the application has served in the military force before. Does 'anyone included' in the application include the extended family? Ie. uncle and aunties listed on the form. Or is it just the person(s) applying for the migration? Which in this case is my mother. 5)Same question goes for evidence of divorce for anyone included in the application. My parents are married but my aunties and uncles are divorced. Do I have to attach evidence of that too? Or does that pertain only to my parents? Thank you very much everyone for your advice!
  14. Hi guys, I will be applying for a 143 visa for my mum by the end of the financial year and I read that she is entitled to a bridging visa if she has been granted a subclass 600 tourist visa if granted through ministerial intervention. Does that mean if she came over on a subclass 600 visa(that was applied on the internet), she is not entitled to a bridging visa? This is because, she's on an ETA 601 at the moment and I considered applying the subclass 600 visa so that she wont have to leave the country every 3 months. Hope one of you guys will have the answer to this! Thanks!
  15. Hi guys, I have posted these few questions a while ago re applying for PR for my parents a few years ago but I can't seem to find my previous post! I'm quite determined to put in an application but the end of this FY because the longer I wait the more it will cost! As such, I was wondering if anyone could answer my questions re the application of a contributory parent visa for my parents(143). 1)Due to the cost of the visa, I can only apply for 1 parent at the moment. Will I be able apply for my mum first then upon the grant of my mum's visa apply for the same 103 visa for my dad? My mum is 56 this year and my dad 59. 2)I have the money set aside for my mum but just in case I need the money, will I be able to delay payment of the 2nd VAC by a few weeks or months? 3)I have also thought of putting in a 143 for my mum and a 103 for my dad as my dad is still working. Is that feasible? Will DIAC look at my applications and think it's a bit weird? 4)With centrelink payments, I know that any payments will be deductible from the assurance of support bond. What payments would my mum be eligible for? i also understand that interest would be paid on the AoS but at would percentage and how often is this paid? Also, would it be paid to me or my parents? Thanks everyone!
  16. My mum came on 21 March and she has to leave on 21 June. That was what the dept of immigration staff said to her. so I'm guessing 3 mths not 90 days.
  17. Hi guys, My mum's been here to visit me but I'd like her to extend her stay for 1.5 more months before we do some travelling overseas. So the situation at the moment is that her visa(subclass 976) expires on 10 Jul 2013 but she entered Australia on 21 March. 1)I understand that she has to leave on 21 June but if I wish to extend her stay till 25 Jul and do it onshore, is subclass 600 the only way to go? I looked up the 601 visa but that would mean she'd have to return home and enter Australia again. There's only a service fee of $20 for the 601 visa but $115 for the 600 visa?? 2)How long would the subclass 600 visa be valid for? Would there be a condition on it if she applies onshore? Other than the no work bit that is. Would there be a single entry condition on it? How long would it take to approve? 3)Im trying to avoid the family stream as that means she'd have to return home and come again. Thank you everyone for your advise!
  18. Hi guys, I've got a few questions with regards to the parent visa and hopefully someone will be able to answer them. 1)If my parents decide to apply for the 173 first then the 143, will they have to join the queue twice? Ie wait approximately 2 yrs to get a CO for 173 then another 2 yrs before the 143 is approved? 2)When they decide to go ahead with the 143 conversion, will they be paying the price of the 173-143 conversion for the year they applied the 173? (ie apply for the conversion visa in 2014 and decide to convert in 2015, will they be paying the price for 2014? or 2015?) 3)Will I be able to apply for my mum first then get my mum to sponsor my dad? I know that there's a 5 year waiting period but 90K AUD is NOT FUNNY! (They're relatively young 58 and 54). 4)I know that if they get any pension, the money paid to them will be from my assurance of support but what about healthcare card or seniors card? You dont get pension with that but you get cheaper prescriptions and public transport-will that come off my AOS?? Thanks everyone!
  19. Congrats and all the best!!
  20. Hey guys, Thanks so much for your help! Im not stressed about it at all not to worry! @Linday: Im from Singapore(ie no reciprocal agreement). My understanding was if you came in as a tourist and you could apply for the 173-143 visa and u'd be granted a bridging visa when the tourist visa runs out. During the mean time they would be entitled to a blue medicare card (not like our green one cuz the blue one's an interim card). but I didnt know that you had to leave the country when the visa's granted. @megancun-Did you mean tax offset? That would mean them becoming my dependents yea? From the looks of it, it doesnt seem like the visa per say is counted as a tax offset but the amount you spend for their living etc is a tax offset. Care to enlighten on this? Although selling the tiny apartment in Singapore would equal to a mansion in Australia! @mikensue: Sorry dont think they'd be eligible for a commonwealth seniors card that soon.they're still 'young' by my definition(Turning 58 and 54 this yr)! haha Have people found it hard to adjust to what they were used to? I guess its more about them wanting to rebuild their lives again when they are nearly 60! Sorry about all those questions!!!!!
  21. Hey guys Just wonderin, is the contributory parent visa worth it at all? My parents are turning 57 and 54 this year and both are healthy...I have the following qns to anyone who can answer them... 1)I know that there is a 10 yr waiting period for pension-They're FARR from then pension age anyway but when will they be eligible for a healthcare card? This is just in case they fall sick 2)With the assurance of support, how does that 10K work? Will I get it back after a few yrs? or not? 3)My parents are pretty much set on retirement and healthcare is free for them in my home country but being an only child, I wld prefer them here(In Australia) for my own selfish reasons when they are older(so I can look after them here rather than in my home country) 4)What are people's experiences of coming here as a parent? Loneliness? Isolation? Selling the family home to pay for the visa doesnt seem like an option to them. 5)Can you apply for the 143 parent visa onshore? I know that the conditions for applying for that visa is that you cant have a no further stay stamp on your visa. Or do you have to go from the 173 to 143 or something? 6)When they put in an application, will they be eligible for Medicare straightaway? Sorry about the questions!!!!
  22. Hey guys just wanna wish everyone all the best for tomorrow!
  23. Hey guys Just a random question...When can I get my parents over? DIAC says settled..does that mean 2 yrs on a PR visa? even tho I've been here for 7 yrs (5.5yrs as a student the rest was bridging and 485)
  24. awesome.thanks guys! Hey Nirav, u logged on to check your status?? Maybe its been approved...
