  1. No, don't think that was me, could be wrong though as that would be one of the reasons for me not living there. Horses for courses on what we each like so i'm glad you can go back to somewhere you love living. Have fun with the move.
  2. Good luck to you. Personally I wouldn't live in Texas even if it cost nothing to live there.
  3. And again the offensive comment, referring to someone who is obviously a woman as a 'bloke'. Is it because she is a lesbian and there must of course be a man in any lesbian relationship?
  4. Last time I looked, Penny Wong is not a 'bloke', and therefore not classed as a 'Mr', and to say that is actually quite offensive.
  5. Things are going great, though waiting for your arrival so that I have someone to sit and drink with of an evening. :ssign6: And so I don't take things off track, I am going to go for 29 days.
  6. I always knew there was something about you that I liked - 23 is my go-to number.
  7. It all depends what state/territory you are going to as they all have different registration and licensing regulations and costs.
  8. Especially when they are linking to the London in Kentucky, USA. :twitcy:
  9. We are in Brisbane and for car, camper, house and contents our insurance is less than $1400 a year. That is with RACQ and includes a number of named items, however we do have deadlocks and a back to base alarm system so that reduces the premium significantly.
  10. We are in Brisbane and we get by without any heating, but we are fortunate and have a well insulated house. From past experience in Tasmania you can get by with a heather in a room or two, but it it is a different way of living as you don't often get the heating kicking in an hour before you get up so that the house is all toasty warm. But, to be honest, as long as you keep the damp out, there is nowt wrong with a cool house.

    Wages.......

That sounds pretty normal to me, and not just in retail. Generally this has been put into agreements as there was evidence in some industries of taking a sickie and then working overtime to get extra money. Sometimes it is dependent on whether or not a sick certificate is provided, and sometimes it only applies to sick leave and not annual leave. It all depends on your contract/agreement.
  12. You could try http://www.brisbanestreetstudios.com.au/ We stayed there when we arrived in 2010 and it was perfect for the 2 of us, with basic cooking and washing facilities.
  13. No idea who played, and not unusual for them to be reporting the cricket at all, whether it be a win or a loss.
  14. What, no articles like this: http://www.brisbanetimes.com.au/sport/cricket/australia-lose-champions-trophy-opener-20130609-2nxmh.html
  15. This may make interesting reading for those looking at heading to Qld. http://www.brisbanetimes.com.au/it-pro/government-it/queensland-government-to-outsource-it-services-20130607-2nuac.html
  16. The Embassy might be ok, the craft beer bar not the backpackers. They serve food and are also showing the game. My suggestion was going to be The Exchange.
  17. Don't give up - Bisto would be the very last thing I would ever buy, either here or the UK - it is vile. As a matter of fact, Gravox is one of the only Australian things that we used to get when living in the UK.
  18. Please don't let facts get in the way...
  19. Our property is actually an older one, just over 50 years old and double brick and tile. It is not open plan and the previous owners did all the work with regards to insulation so we haven't had to do a thing. It was a conscious decision of ours not to go new build, in part due to the open plan nature of them and also the size of the blocks, which are getting smaller all the time. If you are thinking of building, you need to steer away from the big building companies and get yourself an architect and builder and spend the extra money to get exactly what you want insulation wise. There is no point scrimping on costs at the beginning and finding yourself having to pay a fortune in heating costs. To be perfectly honest, what suits us temperature wise doesn't sound like it would suit many others, so while I think our house is a comfortable temp at night, I am sure there are many more that would say that it is too cold and they would be rugged up in front of a heater.
  20. Don't waste your money on vitamins, spend it on fresh fruit and vegetables instead.
  21. We were around the 20% mark when we were renting as well, and this was for a 3 bedroom place in Coorparoo (not too far from the Brisbane CBD - 15 minute commute by bus).
  22. Don't want to buried, will be cremated and I am happy to be dumped where ever. If I die in Australia, them so be it, I really don't care.
  23. The thermostat would never go above 17c for us in the UK and given our home here has great insulation, we don't actually need a heater to have the house at a comfortable temp during the evening.
  24. <p><p>Just the truth Pabs, I think you and I could have some cracking nights with the scotch and beer.</p></p>
