  1. Hi Heidi, we applied for our PR visa in jan 2010 and in sep 2010 my husband was offered a 457 working as an electrician. I'd seen many times on PIO people saying that one visa cancels the other so I decided to do some research. The general opinion on PIO is that the 2nd visa granted cancels out the first, say if your PR visa was to be granted before your 457 and then the 457 was granted it would cancel out the PR. I spoke to 4 different people in the department 2 in Adelaide and 2 in the 457 processing centre in Melbourne not one of them could give me a definitive answer all 4 said that a temp visa can not cancel a permanent visa but they weren't 100% sure as none of them had come across a case .So even if the so called experts don't know theirs not much hope for the rest of us. Basically you can have a 175/176 and a 457 running at the same time you just need to be careful about which visa is granted first if the 457 is granted first no problem, but if your 175/176 is approved first you will need to cancel your 457 straight away. This in fact is exactly what happened to us. As regards licencing my OH went through TRA for the 1st skills assessment then back to TRA for an ARTC after the visa was granted, then on to peer in SA for the wiring regs course, he was granted an SA electrical licence (on the back it says all types of electrical work) don't know if that the norm?? He then applied to NSW for mutual recognition and was granted a NSW electrical supervisors licence without any problems. I know theirs so much to get your head around these ozzies don't like to make things easy for us. I was only talking to a plumber this morning and he said its taken him 2 years to get his licence. Best of luck with it.
  2. Hi, we are heading to Coffs Harbour in northern NSW as far as I know its about 5 hrs or so from Brisbane. OH has a job in coffs so we are off to a good start. Yea the emotions are all over the place, really looking forward to it but at the same time not looking forward to the goodbyes or the flight for that matter. Six months in, thats great, how are you getting on, is your husband working, were are you from originally? Thanks for the good wishes, Maria.
  3. Hi my oh is just back from oz were he did the peer course in Adelaide and ended up having to do a telephone interview with TRA for his ARTC. Thankfully he passed both and has applied for his licence. For the ARTC interview he was basically asked all the same questions kindly posted on another forum back in 2007 here's the link if anyone need's it. http://britishexpats.com/forum/showthread.php?t=451937. Exciting times ahead we fly out on the 12th of June to start our new life in OZ I cant wait..... Thank's to all who have given advice on this thread over the past few months its really much appreciated. Maria.
  4. Hi all just wondering if anyone knows anything about this My oh has a job to go to in NSW he is doing the peer exam next week and the employer says there is no need to change the SA licence to a NSW one and said its just a matter of choice they said you can work in any state on any electrical licence. Does anyone know anything about this or are we being mislead.

  7. Hi well I got back on to DIAC last night and explained the situation again and was told to send another PLE turns out I was right in the first place the information was in the right place it was just when it was printed out it looked as if it was under the heading non migration family members. I received a reply within an hour and was told they would attach all my e mails to my application so when allocated my co can sort it out. Thanks guys for pointing me in the right direction I think I just panicked and was thinking all sorts. I think they should have staff looking at your application straight away who can inform you if anything needs to be corrected so your application can move forward. Its far too long having to wait 10 months + and I know as far as some people are concerned 10 months isn't a long time. Good luck everyone, thanks again. Maria.x
  8. Hi Gary, I told the girl what I had done she said to correct mistakes fill in form 1023. Now that I think of it she didn't say if I had filled it in wrong I think I told her I did. In the e mail I sent I did explain fully and this is the reply I got. Thank you for your email in relation to your visa application under Australia's General Skilled Migration program. In order to inform the department of incorrect information provided during your application process you will need to complete Form 1023 Notification of incorrect answer(s) and submit it to this office. This form is available from the department's website at <http://www.immi.gov.au/allforms/pdf/1023.pdf> Alternatively, you can obtain the form from your nearest Australian Embassy or immigration office. Contact details for the department's offices are available at <http://www.immi.gov.au/contacts/index.htm> We prefer that these forms or any additional documents are scanned and emailed to us at: gsm.documents@immi.gov.au Your case officer will contact you during the processing of your application if any further information is required. Do you know Gary I think you might be right, trouble is its so long since i filled in the application I couldnt remember if their were 2 diffrent sections 1. non migration dependents 2. other family members. what your sating makes scene. OH my head hurts again :arghh: wont be long before i need a bloody stright jacket.... I'M going to ring them again tonight, jesus they will think this one is a bloody idiot :biglaugh:. Thanks a mill. Maria.x
  9. Hi, I couldn't remember the exact wording of the question as you only get your answers on the print out at the end after you submit. Yea its oddly worded that's why all along I was thinking everything was ok, it was only when peeps on here were talking about form 80. I wondered why do they need all that info again I thought I had already filled it in which I had:embarrassed: it was only when I looked at the print out I realized. It is only dependent family members I rang them as well as my nerves were gone worrying about it and was told to fill in the form and they will change it. Yea it is very misleading, Its stressfull enough as it is :arghh: Best of luck with it. Maria.x
  10. Hi just to let you all know i got an e mail back today from the ple i sent and as Peach said they asked me to fill in form 1023 to rectify my mistake. Thanks so much for all the help and advice as always POI members are a wonderful bunch I dont know how I would do it without you all. Thank's:hug:. Maria.xxx
  11. I don't feel so bad now knowing they have a form for mistakes, good to know I'm obviously not the only one. Still can't help feeling a little:embarrassed:. Thanks. Maria.x
  12. Thank's Peach that's great. I'm going to make myself a very strong cup of coffee and have a good look at it. Thank's a million. Maria.xxx
  13. I asked if they could correct our application as we don't have a case officer yet. I told them I only realized today and of course apologized. I'm praying that all will be ok and easy enough to correct, if not i'll just have to apply again god the thoughts of it, thanks for the replays guy's I really appreciate it. Maria.xxx
  14. Please can anyone help I don't know what to do. I just realized I might have made a silly mistake on our application for our 176. With all the talk of form 80 I wrongly assumed I had already filled it in as part of our application as I remembered filling in details of my OH siblings. It was only when I pulled out the form today to have a look I realized I may have totally misread a heading. It says NON MIGRATING DEPENDENTS OTHER FAMILY MEMBERS. I added all my OH'S family members ie: brothers sisters mum and dad only thing is none of them are dependent on us OMG I FEEL SOOOO STUPID How the hell did I miss the word DEPENDENT. I have sent them an e mail to explain dont know what else to do should I ring them later? Has anyone else had a smiler experience. Feeling a bit sick now.
  15. Hi K, I know its very confusing, they dont like to make it easy for us, its General electrical for migration. For the licence you will need to apply as an electrical mechanic.
  16. Hi Rob are you applying to TRA so you can apply for your visa ??? if so then it will be for general electrician. This changes after you have your visa and are in Australia, you have to apply again to TRA for an ARTC an Australian recognized trade cert so you can get your licence. You will have to choose to be assessed as an electrical fitter or electrical mechanic. Mechanic is the one you want as its not restricted.
  17. Hi rob is your application to TRA for migration or is it for an ARTC ???
  18. Hi Dave, My OH is doing the distance learning workbook at the moment he's just finished and is hoping to sit the test sometime in the next few months. Their is a practical exam and the test is sit over 4 days it all changed in November. Hope you dont mind me asking how did you get your ARTC did you apply from Dublin? My hubbie was looking to apply to TRA from here( Dublin ) for ARTC but thought you had to be in oz. Thanks. Maria.
  19. <p>Thanks for clicking my chicken xx</p>

  20. Hi Dizzy, We're in Ireland so we always used TRA for the skills assessment. I know there have been some changes to the way UK sparks do their skills assessment but to be honest I'm not 100% on how it works I think you can go through TRA from now on but double check. If you can use TRA you will need to get a skills assessment from them in order to apply for your visa. Trades Recognition Australia - Home My oh did his last year and all he needed was all his relevant paper work eg. trade certs and log book (that's the system used here in Ireland) a reference and all his work experience, he was lucky as he worked for the same company for 20 years so not too much paper work to send. They didn't do an interview they just went on his paper work. Then once you have a positive result you can apply for you visa, When your visa is granted you will need to apply to TRA AGAIN for an ARTC.You will need this to help gain your a grade licence. Hope this helps I know how you feel its very hard to get your head round it all. If you need anything else don't hesitate to ask. Best of luck, Maria.x
  21. Yes as far as i know you can. as long as you have all the relevant experience. check out this link. Trades Recognition Australia - Home

  24. Hi Iron Chef, Thanks for starting this very informative thread. we plan to move over early in 2011 and have been wondering if we should bring over our car as we would only get about €8000 for it here in Ireland. We have owned it since new,Its a VW Passat 2006 I.6FSI manual gear box, it only has 55KM on the clock so seems a shame to sell it so low. I had a look at red book and i see that passat's are sold in oz but they seem to start at a 2Lt engine and all seem to be automatic, do you think its worth bringing. If so have i got this right its 15% in taxes of the value of the car which on a 2Lt auto(nearest i could find) is about $20,000 so about $3,000 in charges plus shipping costs. Thanks a mill, Maria.
  25. Hi James, My OH needs to go down the TRA route, This is how i am reading it "please correct me if I'm wrong as I'm not %100" Once the visa is granted he can apply for his ARTC, you then have 2 options, can apply for a restricted licence or If you complete the wiring regs course you can change it to a full licence. As far as i am aware you do not need to apply for a restricted licence you can do the wiring regs course first and then apply for the full licence. I think the business criteria only applies if you intend to operate a business in SA so wont affect him. OH its all so confusing is should be the same for each state. More bloody hoops to jump through. Thanks James, Maria.
