  1. Hi Just trying to find out if anyone else has sold there UK property whilst living in Australia and how they went about it. We have been here just under 5 years and are thinking of selling our UK home.would like to get some feedback on how others did it i.e. Solicitors for Conveyancing and all the paperwork involved, tax etc . Thanks
  2. Its a fair point but 6 months to establish a life from scratch ? Its not possible, the first few months are all a bit weird as its all new and diffrent and takes time to truly feel comfortable. It still felt a bit like a dream for us for the first year or so. I think it takes time to build friendships, networks and establish a routine.
  3. Ahh the Traffic lights i forgot them .... How many sets ! I Thought New York had it bad !
  4. Im not starting a flame war here, as i do feel for you and your situation, but 6 Months ! You cannot make a life changing move work in 6 months ! If you said 2 years i would have thought fair enough. Most people who have been here two years or more still at times miss UK and want to go at times. It does get easier, it just needs you to get your head around it all, be positive and think what have i got to loose by really having a good go. Keep trying im sure it will feel diffrent after a year or so if not then go back with some great experiance and memorys of an adventure you would have regretted had you not done it.
  5. Agree with above We had a clause written into contract at our suggestion to repair any damamge made by pets, I also advised them our dogs were house trained, quite and friendly unlike most children, and they still let children live in rentals ! We applied for two propertys and got offered both on the same day ! A bit of luck maybee ? Its not impossible to get a rental with pets but it does narrow down your options.
  6. Frankston South paying $550 a week for a large 4 Bedroom overlooking the bay. Its a 45 minute train ride to Melbourne CBD and if you use the toll road into city around an hour drive. For $700 a week you can get a big house with pool around here. Should be able to pick up a nice place for $500 - $600 easy. We have Dogs and Kids. The key is to have a covering letter with your application any personal & business reference's will help and have all your ID copied and application forms already filled out ready to hand in on the day when viewing, Even if your not sure if its a property you want. Offer to pay 6 Months rent in advance as this can sway them towards you. If you do not have a job it will be almost impposible to rent, and again offering a large payment up front will help overcome this for some landlords. If you have Pets and Kids, offer to Pay for proffesional cleaning when you give up the lease, it re assures them and can help your application. I still own my UK property and lease it out and these factors i gurantee do make a diffrence when considering tennants. NO NOT ALL HOUSES HAVE A/C
  7. This is interests me as i never lived in London but visited it regularly. I spent most of my life in Luton and spent a lot of time in & out of London. I Found London Filthy, Expensive, Intimidating,Crowded and generally hostile. Driving and parking is a complete joke. Public transport is a real drag most of the time. Not all areas and not all people are bad but its a general feeling i used to get when visiting London. London has amazing History, buildings and culture. but the negatives far out number the positives for me. Melbourne feels open, its clean and definatly a safer place to visit. Driving and parking is easier and cheaper. Public transport is better and cheaper. The people are generaly much friendlier and actualy give a crap about others. Its not all perfection but its definatly a diffrent type of City. The people make the city not the buildings.
  8. We live Very close to Mt Eliza, Frankston South its the last big town before you start to hit all the smaller coastal areas, its a lovely area close to Railway, Freeway and approx hour & half from International Airport. The city is around a 40 minute drive and you have all the things you need from a big city in Melbourne. Massive sports stadiums with regular shows International sport events, music concerts etc. Museums, theater etc.etc The Mornington Peninsular in my biased oppinion is the best area for Familys. Beaches Schools Shopping all excellent. By comparison to the UK social and economic problems is like an injection of life ! Melbourne has the same problems that affect any modern city, but the further out you go, Mornington Berwick Pakenham etc the nicer it gets. The further down the Peninsular you go is more like living in a dream holiday destination, although work is a little harder to get. Stay close to the coast line and you will not be disapointed. Drink Driving is massive so theres Booze Bus stops out all the time in particlaur on public holidays and weekends. Speeding fines and points are dished out like sweets, your twelve times more likely to get nicked for speeding here than you are in the UK. ! The weather can change quickly here in Melbourne but after the UK its still better, even in winter its warm by comparison. Never been to Perth but i understand its lovely but remote in comparison to the rest of Australia.

  18. I dont understand how its a problem ? My ex would not let my three Children have medicals. I still applied and got my Visa ? Sorry just a little confused as to how people stirring can be a problem without evidence of any sort.
  19. I dont think its that expensive hear ! But i appear to be in a Minority ? Its not comparable to the UK and thats where a lot of people seem to loose there reality ! Lifestyle Health Oppertunity What cost can you put on them ? All better here as far as im concerned.
  20. AC GAS that needs evacuating is R12 this is almost non exsistent on modern cars as it was stopped from being used in the late 90'S all cars after that had R134A, Your car normally has a AC service sticker under the bonnet, this will specify the gas in your system. A lot of what you need to do depends on what car and how old it is ? Also if its modified be preppared to put it all back to original for the roadworthy as they are super strict here, This may be the Country that gave you Mad Max but, theres no Mad Max here anymore hes all gone PC. You will need a roadworthy if regestering in Victoria, Good luck with that ! They are so over the top its laughable. !
  21. Im 44 Wife 40 ish ! We sit on our porch and spit at the insects regular, been here two years this weekend and ive mastered the Banjo, Just had to grow 2 extra thumbs like all good hillbillys ! ( whatever they are ? Banjo lessons probably) PM me and ill pass the details onto the Wife she will keep you in the loop for any meetings.
  22. Dandenong is ok for work only, i worked there in a Ford Dealership for 5 weeks and left to work in Mornington. Definatly avoid living in Dandenong and Cranbourne nicer places are IN MY OPPINION ! South towards Frankston South, Langwarrin, Baxter, Sommerville, Mt Martha, Mt Eliza, Mornington, Narre Warren Berwick.
  23. Im a parent to 2 girls now 18 and 21 and i can say i would prefer them to go with a friend, for security reasons. im not trying to put a mocker on it for you but as a parent i would hate to think my child was in another country back packing it alone more so for girls than boys. Good luck either way
