  1. Can't speak for Cairns but back in 2010 in the Gold Coast I had 2 kids in state (public)school. The fees seemed voluntary not sure if everyone paid depending on income. If I remember correctly it was hardly anything something like $50 per term for each child.
  2. I was just about to start a new thread about this after all the latest visa changes but you beat me to it.? My question is slightly different because I realise the job market is far more competitive in certain states than it was so harder to secure work.Hard to say if that is discrimination or not though we currently have a world wide wave of, "taking our jobs" Sorry to hijack your thread but I will add to it. Once people secure a job do you experience any discrimination or racism in or outside the workplace in this current climate? When I was there in 2010 it was generally accepted in my area of work they had a shortage of skilled workers and that's why I was recruited. I found a handful of people in the workplace a little standoffish but nothing major. Did have a couple of idiots take the piss out of my accent one time which I classed as banter even though I didn't like it as it was in front of the public. Generally people were friendly and interested in where you are from and you are still called a Pom which was fine with me ? Yes I seen a little verbal racism not against me but against coloured people but it still exists in the UK and elsewhere. At that time it seemed they weren't so politically correct in what they say like we are here in the UK. If I was to return in the near future because I have the chance to I would feel uncomfortable if I was seen as the person taking our jobs and treated as such. It was hard enough last time feeling like an alien who has just landed trying to adapt and settle without discriminatory actions against you as well. It's easier when you live and work where you come from and you don't have to think about these things even though people have migrated around the world for centuries. So what's it like for those of you who have recently settled in Australia in this current mad world climate?
  3. That stinks ? I have always been a strong believer if you have a skill to bring be it in Australia or the UK let the best person for the job get it.I can't be doing with this, "taking Australian jobs" the same mantra people use in the UK.I agree tighten the rules for unskilled workers but not if you have something to offer. You shouldn't be penalised for time spent on a temporary visa when you are contributing to the economy.
  4. I am confused is this statement related to temporary visa holders who go on to PR? I thought citizenship rules changed a few years ago from 2 to 4 years on PR.So before these rule changes if you were on a 457 you only had to total 4 years with 12 months of that as PR,is that correct?
  5. There was obviously a piss up on Monday when you posted this ?
  6. I used short term rental addresse then just changed it when I found a permanent address.Assume you can still do that just tell them it's permanent anyway.
  7. I accept you didn't want to cause offence but I though it was an odd choice of words to use.
  8. It's done now don't worry about it it's just a caution not murder.I would tick yes as well just in case. All they do is pull you aside in the airport and have a chat about it and may frisk you ? Thats what they did with the wife who was really embarrassed ? for something 20 years previous but that wasn't murder either. In regards to the police certificate I wrote a letter to local police to have the conviction stepped down so it never showed on certificate. It stated No live Trace where mine said No Trace.
  9. That's the problem I have got now my daughter has 2 years left but she wants to do her own thing now and Australia is currently not one of those even though she adapted and enjoyed her time in OZ.Thats what a boyfriend, a good circle of friends with a good social life does ? When I got my recent RRV it was only for a year and I am still waiting for the job offer in the post to know where in South Australia that offer is. To be honest my heart is still in Queensland but I need to secure employment before I go and opportunities have become less. This would be the last chance saloon for me I think and if I don't go now I will have to put it to bed. Then again I have been saying that since I returned in 2010 but can't let go ? If it was just me and I never had priorities or commitments I would just go and do any job and travel with my PR.I have got the travel and adventure bug in later life because I didn't do it like friends due to having a child young.
  10. You are completely right last year my daughter could only get £3030 maintenance loan and £1300 bursary which didn't cover her rent which was £5000+ I had to make up her rent costs and my wife works extra nurse bank shifts to send her money every week to live.We were penalised in regards to the loan and the bursary because of our income. Our income is taken into account regardless of our financial commitments as we are expected to make up the difference.Hence our lives are on hold for 3 years ?
  11. My daughter gets her full tution fees paid for and a NHS bursary over the 3 years she doesn't have to pay back. The only thing she has to pay back is a student loan towards living costs if she chooses to have.Certainly less debt after 3 years than some of her friends on non healthcare courses.
  12. That's fair enough each to their own but if I lived in England two reasons as an NHS employee I would not vote Tory. Lack of funding in the NHS and the scrapping of NHS bursaries and NHS funded tution fees for students on healthcare courses. These are still funded under a Labour government in Wales.
  13. I am anti Corbyn but couldn't bring myself to vote Tory its implanted in my DNA not to ? son of a miner and an area decimated by Thatcher. Yo don't forget these things lol
  14. I agree I used the food industry as an example even though those jobs in fast food outlets are unskilled but I knew UK chefs who went on 457 visas. I went on a PR visa offered as a Labour agreement because my skill was in shortage. Two reasons being it would take too long to train Australians to qualify and fill the gaps and at that time Australians generally didn't want to do the job.I was actually told by an Australian colleague youngsters were not interested in doing my job that why the employer had to go overseas. The 457 is used in the same way to fill gaps in the labour market.
  15. As an example how many Australians would fill the jobs in McDonalds and Hungry Jacks for instance.I doubt many because they don't want to do those kind of jobs just like people in the UK don't want to do low paid jobs that's why 457 visas help employers.
  16. This will be bad news for a great deal of people including businesses and visa hopefuls. In my opinion Australians don't want to do some jobs such as the food industry that's why there is a shortage of workers and the 457 fills these jobs. I went on a PR visa but my employer couldn't train and plug the gap with skilled Australian workers quick enough and they didn't want to do the job. That's why visas were on offer and the offer of 457 visas are used in the same manner.
  17. If you can provide documented evidence for parents illness this will help with compelling reasons for absence from Australia. You basically need to attach a document stating your life story beginning to present of why you never went to Australia with any evidence that will help. Always good to speak to an agent but like I said for the sake of $360 I did it myself and the last RRV was granted in 5 days. Your main problem may be substantial ties to Australia. It's difficult to secure a job from the UK but emails talking to potential employers with possibilities may be enough, was for me. If you had PR you are still classed as one you only lost the travel facility.
  18. Your husband can try first and if successful then the rest of the family have to do their own application. You have give evidence on why you never went to OZ after validation and why you have not returned for so long. You have to show substantial ties to Australia. So a job offer or emails talking to a potential employer, that's what I submitted. Chances might be poor because you never lived there and it's been a while but what you got to lose if you don't have other options. It will be the quickest and cheapest route. You were once a PR so you are eligible to apply for a RRV.
  19. I had a visa grant Dec 2009 and left Australia November 2010 after only 9 months. I have managed to get 2 RRVs since from the UK done online by myself. One in 2015 and one recently but have not been back as yet to Australia since 2010. Everybody's curcumstances are different and an application is only as good as the evidence you provide. The the sake of $360 for an application I would try that first rather than the complicated route you are trying. Is it just you who needs a visa or family as well?
  20. Wouldn't you better applying for a resident return visa then if you previously had PR visa? Much quicker, easier and cheaper than the above.
  21. No I had more sense I went in July in the dry season best climate for us visitors lol Wallabies next to golf course not far from Kuranda wasnt it? We were like tourist idiots at that point
