So, what you're asking is where do you get an ingredient for gunpowder?
  2. The botanic gardens are great & free, there's a big trail around and we usually spot a wallaby or two, bandicoots and I think there's a wedge tailed eagle nest (there was last year) If its a hot day in the main bit there is a stream (made from paving slabs) that the kids can have a paddle in. Other freebies include lysterfield lake (a bit past fountain gate) good for cycling barbies and the like. Berwicks botanic gardens are also nice for a wander round. The beaches (mt elizas canadian bay is usually quite and calm) are all within easy reach as is the Dandenongs and the peninsula is nice for a day out. Casey race is a good swimming pool but if you're staying in the area long term it may be worth signing the kids up for swimming lessons as it costs around $12 per kid a week & each child can go swimming anytime for free with 1 adult in there and casey arc (next to fountain gate - it has a wave pool) its saved me a fortune as we tend to go 2-3 times a week in the really hot weather. So in closing there's heaps to do so have fun.
  3. Picked up 4 free tickets to the opera Saturday 23rd November @ the Sid Meyer music bowl. Can't use 'em anybody fancy a free night out?
  4. Heaps absolutely heaps. The day before flying went in and told them where we were going, changed address to parents in law. Once here they wouldn't let us transfer funds online in oz with numerous account lock outs, had to ring up on skype to do it via phone banking. sporadically put blocks on the main account. Parents in law moved so changed address to here in Aus (massive palaver in itself). They sent cards and pins to previous address where new occupants took 600 quid out so had to go through fraud to get it back. Lesson learned transfer money regardless of rate just to keep it out of their incompetent hands (saying that I need to wait for the transfer to go through)
  5. Bristol's the reason I'm in Oz, it was either take early release or be relocated to Bristol.
  6. So looks like the middle man between Telstra and Kogan has gone under, taking with it my mobile service most probably in the next few weeks. Any tips for mobile Telco's who don't try to screw the living daylights out of you (Telstra) I'm a bit wary now of re-sellers as I think Aldi have a temporary agreement & I don't want to have to keep porting my number.
  7. Other side of the coin, i know i'm a responsible pet owner its part of being a grown up. Who the hell do the rspca think they are with their we'll come round and assess you then come round later after we've placed a pet with you and may take the pets back off you after a further vist. Made me not want to engage with them. Nah mine are from a pet shop and have quite a nice life (apart from the cats not being allowed off the property).
  8. I'll be doing it we usually do. Its a good excuse to get mates round for a turkey dinner and drinks. Conversely I'm throwing a midsummers barbie this Friday.
  9. I've been 'stiffed' as centre coordinator this year so in the spirit of trying to build up the centre a wee bit:- we run a clinic for grade prep to six out of Lawson Poole reserve we start Saturday 13th April @9:30 - 11:30. its a good opportunity for the kids to have some (muddy) fun and also mix with other families. its $67.26 per child & the kids get a back pack of goodies and if you register and pay before the 15th April 4 tickets to an AFL game (usually not a popular game but hey, a free day outs a free day out) http://www.aflauskick.com.au/
  10. Had a month there on landing,we rented a place across the road from the train station. its easy to get into town by train, rubbish by car (the Nepean always seems real busy). Southlands on your doorstep. the area looks rough to newly migrated eyes but is quite monied i believe judging by the price of housing. the pool by southlands has a wave pool
  11. I'm big on voting (people died for the right etc.) so will go for it as soon as the 4 years are up roll on September.
  12. Wow, really just wow. If you missed it (not sure many did the streets were heaving) you have to go next year.
  13. The way of the sword a japanese martial art. Or to put it a different way dressing up daft to hit people with sticks.
  14. 2 Ikea dining tables with chairs (8) free to pick up Cranbourne East Victoria.
  15. Grew up just outside Doncaster, moved as soon as i could. life in a northern town - you can keep it. Funnily enough so did most of my peer group too.
  16. just in the middle of a 'starter course' with kite republic at st kilda. It seems fun, expensive but fun.
  17. The shining - redrum, redrum, redrum shivers just thinking about it
  18. Go and get the curry secret by Kris Dhillon (about $9 from the book depository). Curry like a Friday night on the high street even down to samosas and bhaji's not much trouble to rustle up as well. dying for a proper kebab, there's one on Sladen St down from the cop shop haven't tried it though.
  19. Saw a picture of the moon once, it looked nice might move there.
  20. Ha ha ha ha, when I first pitched up I thought there's a lot of gay men in Melbourne, hell of a lot. Turns out they've taken to that metro-sexuality thing and made it well and truly their own.
  21. Bear in mind panel vans aren't insulated or ventilated for sleeping in, could get a bit cold and damp at nights. We had a 'home conversion' they'd used rock wool to insulate and where the damp had collected it had rusted through the panels, still live and learn. I did see a tent (like a roof box) that can go on top of a roof rack looked quite cool.
  22. Less fatal shark attacks than WA but then so does amity
