Going to Melbourne

Where are you going to be working? That ill probably determine the place you will live. Your budget may get you a shared pad close to the cbd or a 1/2 bed outside......im being honest here. Its not cheap to start again....get saving your pennies. Lots of brits i know settle in richmond, prahran, st kilda due to working in the city. Then those with families tend to hit the outer suburbs. Good luck!!

    Footscray

Hahahaha do you realise how pompus you sound? well im offended to be in the same profession. You clearly dont understand addiction or mental illness. If anyone of my staff held those kind of opinion, id be sending them back to school to find a different career. As a mental health nurse you surely would know addiction and mental health go hand in hand. You must also be aware that both can be found in every street in every suburb. Its actually quite hard to maintain an addiction in australia. The price of drugs are huge here. So most of those people you saw out and about were probably grafting to find money to pay for their habit. Its also those people that are keeping you in a job. Theres one thing that i have found by being here in Australia, Dont judge a book by its cover. Footscray is just like any other city suburb. Its actually quite a quirky place if you give it time.
  3. Hi, the best place to go is the immigration website http://www.immi.gov.au and search 457. It will give you lots of info and tell you which docs you need. For you and children you will need to provide passport, birth certs and go for medicals-some say dont bother with the medicals, only if your going into the teaching or health field, but i say go get them just in case you want perm residence. For your other half they will need to provide all those docs, plus all their qualifications etc for the skills assessment. the main thing to get you throught this is to be methodical. Prep all docs on your pc so that they can be attached at the time of your online application. You can front load your medicals. But that may take an extra week to have visa granted while your case officer collates and merges documents.... Keep calm and youll be fine!

  7. Hi Mike, Many thanks for your reply. I havent been on here for a while and didnt know that Gill no longer posted! What a shame. I'll not ask why - I will go and find her though, as you say she is the fount of all knowledge. I came over here on a 457 initially and I think dad is outside of the age ruling - Im sure i had to sign to say i was under 45yrs. Im on my way to find the info on the immi site to do some reading! Thanks Again Kelly
  8. Hi to you all. Ive tried to find out if my questions have already been discussed in the thread, but havent seen so far. Sorry if this is a repeat post. A bit of background - Spoke to Dad today, who informed me they are closing down where he works and are looking at placing at another office, but it may result in redundancy. He semi retired Feb 09 and has been working part time in his role since. When we moved out to Melb Sept 09, Dad was interested and managed to get some basic info about parent visas. Im aware that some may have changed so i thought it would be best to get some up to date info. Dad has skills as a mechanic and about 30+ yrs in the prison service. He would be happy to continue working, plus he will have his pension every month paid to him. Im the only child so 100% of his offspring are perm residents in Aus. He will turn 58yrs in Feb My confusion lays with what visa is the most appropriate to go for. I know there are costs involved, any idea on what that might be? Can the visa be applied for while he is here on a visiting/holiday visa? if so, would that offer him a bridging visa? (is there such a thing as an onshore parent visa?) Is an agent needed or is it simple enough to do it yourself? Thanks in advance, Kelly. :clown-smile:

Ivanhoe is nice, its just up the road from me in Watsonia. The suburbs change to more open spaces and trees if you go north a bit.

There seem to be a few of us in the same boat at the moment. trying too set up, spending an extortionate amount of money and cant find work. All this in 35c when we were expecting it to be in the 20's......This wasnt the dream i was sold...lol..

Hubby is currently trying to persuade me to look at NZ for work- its cooler apparently- He thinks the grass is greener.

  19.
Hi, Have you got your visa through yet?? Hows things at work? Melbourne is something else.xx

  20. do you know, im quite impressed. I contacted the employer i had back 1999 and spoke with HR. They had no problem in going back into the archives and doing me a letter. I just had to give previous HR info so they could find me on the system. On the other hand the trust in Bucks (Feb 2004-Nov 2005) have now amalgamated with oxfordshire and werent so willing, but i have letters of start and contract ending dates. Inclusive of all letters when i changed roles etc - so im hoping that will suffice
  21. I have one or two!!! 457 visa application: it says on the info form i have that all documents are needed again, as per whats needed for the nursing registration board. I took a copy, but do i have to get the originals re-verfied for the Visa?? Pre employment - The same info doc says the hospital will want evidence of the last 10 years of working. Inc start dates and end of employment, job role and salary............Really??? My employemnt history goes back 10 years and its all over the show!! I cant believe ive got to contact old HR deptartment to get this info:wacko: Kelly
  22. Every page needs to be signed/dated/position and company stamp. Do you know the Mag? hope they are not charging you too much per document !!!
