Couldn't resist taking a pic as i wandered over to feed the neighbours chooks and dogs... looks amazing on the water left from recent rain

i lived in portsmouth for a year, took home about pounds 350 a week as a delivery driver and sharing the bills it was pretty liveable, could afford a three bedroom house in the ghetto and enough free cash a week to enjoy life a bit

What to do with yourself when the packers are in?
PommyPaul replied to Wales1's topic in Shipping and Removals
haha i was going to say that -
would definitely say don't take the risk with just driving the car on the compulsory insurance alone, although i'm not one to talk haha i drove for six years over here and never took out proper insurance... is a gamble though and is always in the back of your head what if!

Farm machinery operating from my perspective is going pretty good, never had to wait more than a week to get a job plus the wages are pretty decent and nearly always get a free house, bills paid etc... just buy your food... down side (unless like me you enjoy the country life)... it's often in more remote areas and the hours can be long, (10 hour day is considered a very easy day)

Would you go out for a month before making any decisions?
PommyPaul replied to SydneySister's topic in Aussie Chat
i reckon a month over with the young'un would be a bloody good idea, you could always do a bit of job stalking as well for if you decide to make the move -
nice to see moree isn't on there haha

better just add the bit that relates to a perm visa... think you're safe either way [h=3]Permanent Visa[/h]If you have entered Victoria on a permanent visa issued under the Migration Act 1958 you may drive on your overseas driver licence, providing it is written in English or accompanied by an English translation or international driving permit for: 6 months from the date you first entered Australia if the permanent visa was issued before you entered Australia, or 6 months from the date when the permanent visa was issued to you if the permanent visa was issued to you while in Australia. If you want to continue driving in Victoria after this time you must get a Victorian driver licence. If your overseas driver licence has expired, you will still be able to take the drive test as you are exempt from holding a learner permit for the test.

i've never heard of the 5 month restriction... this is what it says on vicroads website [h=3]Temporary Visa[/h]If you have entered Victoria on a temporary visa: you are not required to get a Victorian driver licence and/or learner permit you may drive using your current overseas driver licence for the length of your stay your driver licence must be written in English or accompanied by an English translation or international driving permit. Bronxfan... i'm 99% sure you just pay the fine, had a mate that did the same about 6 months ago and he only had to pay the fine... think it was a higher fine though
-
if your on a whv there's no problem with you driving on your uk license as long as you want.. well as long as your visa stay allows... if your moving to australia permanently i think you have six or three months to transfer it to an aus license.. all you need to do is an eye sight test. if you google vicroads you'll find all the info you need on their website

it is a bit of a grey area, been through this process and the ex entered on a tourist visa then appiled onshore, wasn't a problem with diac but we did emphasize that we only made the decision to apply for the visa once we were in the country. if my memory serves me right you'll be issued a bridging visa till a decision is made so you can stay in the country.... worth checking out the immigration website to double check. Good luck mate

no worries mate, good luck with the car shopping
-
haha you've caught me out!
-
take a look here for the full run down http://www.rms.nsw.gov.au/roads/registration/transfer/index.html your rego includes the price of your basic insurance but that only covers you for injuries to third parties and not damage to property... worth shopping about a lot for your fully comp insurance as i had quotes ranging from $3000 to $600

she's made a good choice and is a brave lady mate!
