  1. Hi, wondering if anyone can help me (again lol).... I am eligible to apply for 457 visa as a Diagnostic Radiographer, which requires me finding a sponsorship position, which is going to be pretty hard I feel. So, I am wanting to know if I can apply for Skilled - Independent Visa Subclass 189 instead. I am registered at the moment with AHPRA and I am doing locum work in VIC at present, I have also done locum work previously in WA. I have only this post grad experience (so to date about 6/7 week in total), my locum role in VIC is on-going for however long I want it for also. I can't register with AIR as I don't have the two years post grad they require.....or so I thought. I've been on their website and for a suitable skills assessment in order to express my interest on immi for the 189 visa I require a positive skills assessment by them. Now, it used to say that they wanted to see evidence of two years post grad clinical experience (out of a total of 5 years), but now it says "You must demonstrate at least two or more years in the last 5 years of good clinical experience" then at the bottom it says, "Your qualification will be compared to a qualification in either Diagnostic Radiography/Medical Imaging or Radiation Therapy. In Australia the disciplines are quite different entities and you can only qualify in one discipline. The following is a guide as to the Australian academic standard your qualification will be compared to: 1995 onwards (Degree) - 3 years of fulltime study and a Professional Development (PDY) year of mentored clinical entrance into the profession. The Statement of Accreditation is issued to Australian graduates on the completion of their PDY Which is what I would be assessed against.... I'm just confused because before it said two years of post grad but this seems to have been removed so unsure???? Does anyone know if it still means two years post grad exp or just as in two years clinical ATLEAST (which is ok because I've done placement for 3 years, 50% of the course time was placement for all 3 years) I sent all this info and more to a migration agent for a free assessment but no reply, AIR haven't replied either.... just want to know what my options are apart from the 457 as I am happy doing locum work! Sorry for the long post, Thanks Alix xx
  2. Thank you very much everyone. I'm going to ring up AIR tomorrow and see if I'm eligible to apply for the independent skilled visa, not sure if I am or not. I think AIR have changed their rules, it used to be two years post grad. experience but on their website it just says "You must demonstrate at least two or more years in the last 5 years of good clinical experience" then at the bottom it says, "Your qualification will be compared to a qualification in either Diagnostic Radiography/Medical Imaging or Radiation Therapy. In Australia the disciplines are quite different entities and you can only qualify in one discipline. The Statement of Accreditation is issued to Australian graduates on the completion of their PDY Which is what I would be assessed against (I'm already recognised by AHPRA as having full rego. I'm just confused because before it said two years of post grad but this seems to have been removed so unsure????
  3. Hi, I can't find any concreate information on whether or not I need a skills assessment for 457 it's driving me nuts and Immi haven't got back to me! I am a qualified Diagnostic Radiographer (from the UK, qualified June 2015) and currently working in Melbourne has a locum radiographer, I have full AHPRA rego and can't apply for AIR because I don't have 2 years post grad. Do I need a skills assessment if I find an employer to sponsor me? I can't find anything on the website!! Thanks xxx
  4. Well I've now decided to go from Australia - Singapore and then fly from Singapore to Kuala Lumpar, going to spend 9 nights in both places and then fly from there to Nadi and go onwards. It's only 15 hours from Kuala, 3 hour wait in Melbourne! So all good. It was cold calling to begin with, basically getting people to refinance their mortgage- $19 an hour. Slave labour in a way but easy work I guess. I'm now on $41 an hour doing Radiography so a massive jump!! I wouldn't ever recommend a call centre job to ANYONE. First and last!! Lol. Don't get ate by a shark!! Lol
  5. So I've finally got abit of spare time to write a post about my first 3 months in Australia!! Arrived 11th September on a WHV, went straight to a hostel in Sydney, wanted to find farm work by 22nd and couldn't. The two girls I was with pissed around too much and I ended up missing the deadline for finding farm work which still meant I could go to Bali for Xmas and New Year. As my plan was to find farm work by 22nd and get it finished by Christmas, fly to Bali for Xmas and New Year and then find work in Sydney in the New Year. This then led me to find work in Sydney in a call centre whilst in the process of applying for my AHPRA- long process and so much stress and worry thinking I've not got everything right. Sydney for me has turned into somewhere I'll call home- the lovely sights of Kings Cross, to constantly getting lost 3 months in, to spending most of the time in O Malleys, always taking a picture of Bondi Beach when I get off the bus because it's as beautiful as ever and still feeling myself never ever getting bored of seeing the Opera House and Harbour Bridge for the millionth time. I then booked Bali with my friend and a week or so ago my AHPRA came through and I had a locum radiography job lined up in Bunbury (WA) smaller than my hometown back in England!! Got another job lined up for when I'm back from Bali for 3 weeks, then with the money I've earnt from the jobs I'll travel the East Coast from Feb for a month. I'm also going to book Singapore for 2 weeks in April then fly to Fiji for 2 weeks over my birthday then back to Sydney. Although I'm thinking the 24 hour flight from Singapore to Fiji is going to be HELL on earth - maybe I'll do a stop over. But I'm so glad everything is working out well, after a year of saving up throughout Uni, worrying about everything before I got here, breaking up with my partner of 3 years.. It seems I've finally got some happiness!! To anyone reading this who is worrying about coming to Australia or even going travelling, do NOT think twice. It'll be the best thing you'll ever do, and the stress, drama, and worry is so worth it!! I've had the best 3 months ever and I can't wait for all the more adventures I'll have. Never felt happier![emoji5] - my dreams have finally become a reality and isn't that the goal?
  6. Hi, So I was wondering with the general registration for radiographers if you haven't had a career break or newly qualified do you need to include your CV? It didn't ask for it on the application only in the bit about if you've been out of practice for 3 or more years. & What are the waiting times like for AHPRA for radiography applications from overseas? & I only included an academic transcript with my application which is what they ask, this has the modules I've studied and the grades. It has nothing in relation to my placements, will they ask for this further down the line? Just wondering as I'll have to contact the course leader at university and attempt to get something that says what hours I've done. Thankyou, Alex
  7. I know that but does it mean they don't have to advertise the position publically? Thanks again Joy
  8. Ps sorry for the million questions![emoji85]
  9. So I've just looked and my occupation is exempt!! What does this mean for me?
  10. So this means that if they want to offer me sponsorship they can do no questions asked?? Just want to know what goes on before I start applying for jobs etc- Thankyou everyone for the replies!!
  11. Hi! So I've got a few questions in relation to the 457 visa.. So I am currently here on a WHV, I'm a qualified radiographer and when my AHPRA comes through I'll be apply for jobs that come with a 457 sponsorship option. Now, on 457 you have to prove that you are better than another person going for the same job to get sponsorship, that they can't find anyone better. Say if I and another person, presumably is Australian, (I'm from the UK), went for the same job, and I was already employed with them on a 6 month contract.. And then they re interviewed me for a sponsorship position say after 3 months, but had no choice but to advertise it publically even if they wanted to hire me.. How can the company get around not employing them over me even if they have the same skills and training etc? Just confused in relation to this.. What if they're better than me in some aspects of the job and they have no choice to hire them but they WANT to give me sponsorship cos I've been working with them for 3 months already. Sorry for the long post...hopefully not too confusing to read!! Alex
  12. Thankyou Joy! The woman at AIR clearly doesn't have a clue what she is going on about lol.
  13. Upon re reading it sounds like she doesn't have a clue!! I think I was panicking, trying to get hold of immi (30th in the line) ... Should have done this in the first place lol!!
  14. So either way I can't go on the 457 as it won't be classed as successful? I'm so confused please excuse me! From what I gather with the lady at AIR, I have to register with these for the 457 visa as that's the regulatory body. Where can I find this info on the Immi website I'm having trouble in finding it in black and white. Thanks for your help
