thanks lesley.. i don't think your nuts lol i want to bring over a few bottles of each... not only do i love the smell but my kids react different to different ones lol and have to all be done seperate i have found ones that they are all ok with and didnt like the ones over in oz lol i dunno why they just never smelt 'nice' will be buyin a few more now i know it can be done :)

Aaaah you Can get square sausage and you can also get Irn Bru - I spotted it in the local IGA just before Xmas - It is seasonal but it doe scome out here every so often!

You can definately get iron bru and branston pickle over here on the sunshine coast, as i write this i'm scoffing on a cheese and branston pickle sandwich, they sell branston at chancellor park woolies and I think I saw iron bru there too, if not it was at coles sunshine plaza also found helmans mayonnaiyse...

Anyone used Sard Wonder Soap? It's brilliant for any stains (god I sound like an advertisment) - but seriously, any stians or whatever and just wet the soap, rub it on the stain and then pop it in the wash with everything else and hey presto!! Also works well on trainers!!!

I am with you on this one. I too will have to have my Aerial and Fairy liquid. I wrote to Customs to ask if it was ok to take as much as I wanted in our container and also asked about my many candles (love my candles) below is their reply:

Good Afternoon Monica
Thank you for your enquiry regarding consignment of personal effects. The information provided are requirements for the Australian Quarantine Inspection Service (AQIS). In relation to your candles, providing they are not bees wax or contain plant or animal material these would not be of quarantine concern, your washing powder is not of quarantine concern. Imported consignments of personal effects are subject to mandatory inspection on arrival in Australia to ensure they are free from quarantine risk material – Each item must be free of seed, soil, animal and plant debris and other quarantine risk material “clean as new” prior to arrival in Australia. Any packaging used with the consignment must also be clean and new.
As all consignments are subject to inspection, fumigation prior to arrival in Australia is not required. However, should quarantine risk material be found on inspection, the goods will be ordered for appropriate treatment. The inspection is charged based on the amount of time the inspection takes. The minimum fee is $80 which covers the first 30 minutes and then it is $40 for every 15 minutes after the first 30 minutes.

Persil is called Omo here, and they do the 'small and mighty' one too. Pretty sure Lenor is called either fluffy or huggy cant remember.

Walkers crisps are called Smiths here, but the colours of packets are different. Walls is called Streets, cant think of other things, but Sanitarium Marmite is NOT THE same as good old fashioned marmite from home.

Meat from supermarkets is nowhere near as good as in the UK and dont even think chicken you buy here has seen sunlight, dont look forward to cheese either if you are a cheese o holic because it's pretty poor over here compared to choice at home and booze is well expensive....

Apart from that it's great :-)

I'm going to have to disagree there. I find the supermarket meat here infinitely better than dreaded Tesco was in the UK. Chicken is slightly more expensive because there's no direct equivalent to the supercheap battery birds Tesco used to discount. However, the basic bird is "barn raised" (as opposed to caged) and has far more flavour and texture and less fat. For a family of three I can usually get 3 meals out of a basic $10/£5 bird.

Aussie beef is cheaper, more flavoursome and definitely more tender than what I used to get in the UK. Especially if you watch for the regular sales and buy in bulk, things like rump steak are actually affordable on a budget--and after a short stint on the BBQ it's melt in the mouth tender.

The lamb and pork are good too but I had fewer complaints about those in the UK.

Cheese I partially agree with you on. Unless you go to a specialist shop, you won't get the same selection of European ones here--at least not at an affordable price. However, considering the distances involved for a perishable product that makes sense.

That said, I've found a number of cheeses, often from Tasmania, which are very nice and keeping my cheeseaholic pangs at bay. The South Cape camembert is as good as most French ones, especially if you make sure it's nice an ripe. I've also found some nice blue cheeses and a couple of goat's milk ones lately--but don't have the labels in front of me just now. Anyhow, it's possible for a cheeseaholic to survive.

For your expensive booze, try a Dan Murphy's warehouse. Imported spirits are still a bit more expensive but since I tend to live on wine (goes with the cheese ya see!) I find I can get cheap but good quaffing stuff more economically than in the UK.
