ACT, Canberra State Sponsorship - WHERE ARE YOU NOW

Big Bob

Recommended Posts

Hey Bob!

Its been a while since I posted on any forum.

On the 22nd of June, I got a reply from ACT stating that since my experience is tech support and that I wasn't a citizen, I would not find a job in ACT. Hence, got rejected.

So, basically its over for me. More than 150,000 Rs and almost 2 years totally wasted!

I wish you and the others good luck, I had a wonderful time with you guys, here and on "the other forum", I am now looking at other opportunities. So its good bye from me for now.

Cheers.

TAA [More]

sorry to hear that. Remember its not the end of the world. Stay positive and best of luck in the future :)

Hi Everyone,

Just to let you know our application for ACT sponsorship was declined due to not having enough cash in the bank. We thought that by showing them how much we would have after selling house and vehicles this would be accepted. Even our agent was surprised when they declined us. So unfortunately for us we won't be joining most of you in Canberra. Our agent has said that some states are bringing out new lists after 1st July and to re-assess our situation then. If we can try another state we will. I've read that ACT are not putting any ICT jobs on their new list. I'm just hoping another state has my OH occupation on. South Australia had it on their list and it was still available when they shut their online applications in May. Feeling really down about the whole thing but not going to give up just yet.

Good Luck to everyone else wiating, hoping it all works out for you all.

Bye for now

Karen

Where did you get this info from? It's not mentioned anywhere on the ACT website. As far as I know the occupations are first declared 'Limited' and then 'Closed'.

Hi Karen

Sorry to hear your news that you have insufficient funds. If it helps anyone else out there some agents don't know or cannot follow the exact guidance from States offering sponsorship. The guidance forms confirm what ACT class as cash assets. An agent should know that a vehicle and home are not enough evidence.:arghh: Vehicles and homes are not sufficient on their own. For those that do not have sufficient cash assets they can produce a waiver request letter stating how they will fund their arrival in ACT and not be a burden on the State.

States are very firm with agents that do not follow the guidance requirements. They expect a high standard of service and would expect an agent to know exactly what they have to submit. If a State asks for something from an agent authorised to act on behalf of an applicant they will only ask once and expect to receive the reply 100% accurate first time, no second chances.

We had similar problems but thankfully due to me digging a bit deeper and passing on my own research to our agent we were granted SS by ACT. A bit annoying as we are paying the agent to guide us.

If it helps you in the future do your own research, in addition to your agents help, and don't rely on the agent 100% unless you know they are 100% correct with their guidance. Its your future in their hands.

Best of luck with your applications to other States.

Regards

Hello All,

I have just received an email from Julianne at the ACT SMP with their new list. The biggest change is that they are no longer sponsoring ANY ICT occupations!

It seems that they are currently doing a full review of the occupations that they intend to sponsor and release an updated list in September.

If you are on the current list and hoping to be sponsored by the ACT I would recommend getting an application in the system ASAP.

I tried to upload the file but it is too big (only 394kb!)

Hi KarenHen,

We also sent a waiver to ACT when we applied, but we were also lucky enough to sell our house while we were awaiting ACT, so we sent them a letter from the lawyers confirming the sale and for how much we sold so that we had proof that by the time we landed in ACT we would have the liquid cash, can you not ask them to review your app if you send a waiver doc?

Hope you come right, it is heart breaking when things go wrong.

I will update that for you...

SMP Occupations List July 2011.

The SMP Occupations List identifies occupations that are currently in demand in Canberra. The occupations listed do not relate to a specific job vacancy, nor represent a guarantee of a job in a specific occupation.

The SMP Occupations List July 2011 will remain in effect until the new 2011/12 SMP Occupations List is published. The 2011/12 SMP Occupations List is expected to be published in September 2011.

ALL ICT OCCUPATIONS:CLOSED

The applicant should understand that the ACT Government is NOT responsible for finding them employment or for providing any form of financial assistance.

Applicants must compete for positions with all people in the labour market as part of the normal selection process. Success will depend on employer requirements, relevant skills and experience and level of English ability.

Hi guys,

Yesterday I got the fantastic news I received sponsorship from the ACT! My agent had made some submission errors, so the whole thing was quite delayed, but thankfully everything got back on track thanks to the great team at the SBM unit... Anyways, here is my time line:

Name: Aussie2B

Date of SMP application: around mid March

Trade/profession: Advertising Specialist

Visa type: 176

Delays/further docs requested: Submission errors by my agent caused the decision to be delayed

SS received: July 8th 2011

Form 1100 Uploaded: Sent to DIAC on July 8th 2011

Visa Filed: September 6th 2008 (originally lodged a 176 Family Sponsorship visa)

Comments:

Does anybody know how long it generally takes to get a CO assigned under the new priority group 3? It says in their processing update email it would take about 2 weeks from notifying DIAC of SS, but I am not sure if that is realistic with the new system/criteria having just kicked in etc. I guess I will have to wait and see..

Good luck to everyone waiting on a decision!

Hi Aussie2B

Thanks for the update, will flash it to Page 1 right away and turn you Orange

About your case since you had already lodged your 176 (Family Sponsored), You are in Category 3 in case priority..So once you update DIAC on you sponsorship and after Form 1100 submission from ACT, You will be upgraded to Category 2 176 (State Sponsorship) and will take around 4-6 weeks to get a CO or earlier i.e; depending on your application and country you applied (High Risk/ Low Risk) and other factors. Rest assured you will get you PR soon with ACT sponsorship :cute: Congratulations :wubclub:

Can anyone tell me if office manager will still be on the list for ACT when it is revised?

My wife is an office manager and we are just about to submit skills assessment. Hope we have time to get to ss stage soon and it does not come off the list!

Hi Simon

Welcome to POMS and ACT Migration thread as I can see its your 1st post here. Here is your annwer:

ANZSCO 512111 Office Manager (ASCO 3291)- Limited

VERIFICATION OF ‘LIMITED’ OCCUPATIONS

A ‘limited’ occupation indicates that the current ACT target for this occupation is almost met. Applicants seeking nomination of a ‘limited’ occupation must have the occupation verified by the SBM Unit before an application for nomination is lodged "

All in all very few applications can be accommodated. I am not sure about future ACT SMP list but currently status of your occupation is as mentioned above.

thanks and regards

Hi Big Bob,

Many thanks for your message. Do you (or anyone else) know what the best way is to get in touch with DIAC to update them on my sponsorship? My agent says we are not required to do anything and once they receive form 1100 from the ACT my file will automatically be moved from category 5 to category 3, but since my agent messed up before, I'd like to be on top of this thing and contact DIAC myself just to be sure... What is the best way to get in touch with them - phone or email? Has anyone got their contact details?

Thanks!

Hi Guys

Good to see more poms being awarded SS from ACT. Great news.

Can anyone confirm if the new processing times for the 176 visa (group 3) applies to applications lodged pre 1st July 2011? Or is this now how the DIAC will deal with al applications regardless of the time/date they were submitted? Group 3 now states 12-24 months.

The IMMI site doesn't make this clear.

I was of the understanding that our visa would be granted and we as a family would be in Canberra in approx. 6 months time from SS being granted.

Fingers crossed it only applies from 1st July 2011.

Hi Aussie2B,

DIAC wont respond to your question/information if you have a nominated agent. They will only correspond with your agents unless you 'sack' your agent by completing/amending the 986 from (I think) then complete another form instructing DIAC to correspond with you only. You should instruct your agent to tell them, which he should have done when submitting your VISA application. ACT wil forward your 1100 form normally within 2 weeks of granting SS.

I have to admit being a little disappointed (to say the least) with our agents help. We nearly lost our SS due to his errors! :arghh:Thankfully a meeting with the lovely Ladies at ACT confirmed our agents errors and we were granted SS approx one week after our meeting.

Keep on at your agent. You are paying him/her for their advice, professionalism, etc. Its your life in their hands. Worse case sack your agent and go it alone - not an easy decision. We haven't sacked him but are losing faith in him rapidly.

Hey Breezer,

Looks like your experience is very similar to mine. Our agent messed up as well which basically caused my application to never be processed until I started ringing the alarm bells... The ACT migration team has been great though and within 1 week we got my application back on track and the acceptance followed a few days later. I am just so grateful for their professionalism and help with this matter! It did make me feel like I made a big mistake using an agent and looking back I wish I would have done it all by myself. It's just a better feeling to have complete control over the whole situation and yes... your life.

I actually emailed my agent today and told him to contact DIAC. Especially after the whole error with the state sponsorship I am now making sure I'm on top of everything. This forum certainly helps SO much, because I don't think I would have known what the next steps would be otherwise.. It's just a bit of a weird feeling that I'm telling my agent what to do when really - it should be the other way around.. Do you have that same experience?

So you got your sponsorship a few weeks back.. Did you assigned a CO yet, or are you still waiting?

Cheers,

Aussie2B.

Hi Aussie2b

We don't have a CO yet, but our agent emailed me the other day saying that it should have a CO allocated this week coming. Our agent was at a meeting the other week and the feedback he received was that DAIC are processing visa applications within 2 weeks of receipt.

I am hearing different stories about the need for medical checks. On one hand I am hearing my wife and I will need all checks plus chest x-ray whilst our kids only need basic health checks. The hospital in UK that we would attend for these checks have said wait until DIAC tell you what they require as they might only want basic checks for us all. Yet our online visa status shows that these checks are outstanding.

Don't know what to do?

Regards

Breezer
