Still-a-dream!

Recommended Posts

Thanks Lala and Jellybeagle  I have to admit that after finding this website at 5am this morning (couldnt sleep - to much on my mind!) I did feel a little less 'isolated'. Because we can't tell anyone I am finding it hard to deal with.

My OH would freak out if he even knew I had posted something on here!! -- oh well - to bad so sad!!!

When we get there I wont be working either (first time in 20 years!!) but I think I will go mad if that stays a permanent thing.

Have you guys got quotes for furniture removals etc?

Jelly - I can't add you guys to facebook yet  cos I won't be able to keep my own blinking secret on there!!

Hi misbehaving

Not to worry just keep the posts coming and anything we can do to help just shout - what do you do at the mo workwise ?

Angela.

Hi Folks,

I'm from Ireland and am moving to Mackay in 10 weeks with my husband and 18 month old twin girsl  We are both very nervous and excited at the same time ! Can anybody please give me advice on good areas to rent, cost of living (I've heard it can be quite high) and toddler groups in Mackay.

Thanks in advance,

Debbie x

Hi Debbie

Welcome to our little group - North of Mackay seems popular - check out some of my earlier posts for areas and loads of links to info - the council, bus routes etc.

Hi girls and a great big welcome to all the new recruits - obviously Mackay is the place to be  - anyone looking for rental furniture check out http://www.mrrental.com.au/Find-a-Store/Locations/Australia/Queensland/North-Mackay.aspx not too pricey - definately also listen into http://www.mrrental.com.au/Find-a-Store/Locations/Australia/Queensland/North-Mackay.aspx on a laptop as it starts to make you feel at home - for anyone who needs any other info check out my earlier posts for links to the council, estate agents etc.

Looks like we are on target for the end of may - woop woop :wacko:

Hi Kate  Glad to hear someone else is gonna brave the long flight with two toddlers in tow  > It would be fantastic to kinda know people over there in the same boat  My husband is a diesel fitter/mechanic. We had been looking to relocate for so long as there really seems to be no job opportunities here in Ireland anymore.

Hi Angela, nice to "meet" you  I will go and have a look at those links now, the more info I have, the better I feel

Hiya,

ive has seen quite a few threads of people mentioning Mackay, and have met a couple of nice people on here who are also heading that way. I just wondered who out there is also planning on moving to Mackay this year and what areas you have decided to move to and what you like about them - or areas you have looked into? This would be a huge help!

We have two daughters so obvioulsy we need to do our reseach to get the right area for them in terms of safety, schooling, other families to socialise with, activities.

And hello to you all too!:v_SPIN:

Thanks

Hi There, We heading to Mackay July or August but not sure where to rent yet as husband going to head over first see how he likes job and which area would be best as we have the kids to think of to, My daughter (14yrs) and my son (5yrs) will be going to school so have been in contact with a few schools and have been assured of places for them. Really excited ......if anyone can give us advice on area's, schools etc I would really appreciate it

We are taking our furniture with us - took flipping years to buy what we have - I can't think of getting rid of it.

I was looking for a furnished place for us to stop in whilst our furniture arrives - cos knowing my luck the ship will go the wrong way when leaving the UK! :spinny:

I work in the hospitality industry at the mo - but having looked at the jobs that are available in Mackay, I think I may have to diverse a little when I decide to go back to work.

I hope we do all manage to keep in touch - it seems strange that I have only just made 'friends' with you guys but already I feel a 'support network' building.

My daughter is 8 and is in year 3 at the moment - becuase we are due to leave in November I am not sure what I do with her regarding school. Does anyone know what year she would fit into in Mackay?

Hiya

I'm sure she would be in the same year (i think). It's really easy to enrol at the schools. It's worth bearing in mind that you have to buy all text books as well as uniforms & usual stationary things. Have to say from my experience though that the schools are fab! x

Hey Piper,

Just wondering if your visa is through ? We been told ours could take another 8 wks but reckon it will take us that long to get everything organised before we leave. Have been trying to clear out house bit by bit so it wont be too difficult when the time comes to rent it out. Will have to sell cars too  sooo much to do!! Also think we will both have to do driving test again within 3 months of arriving does anyone know if this is true?

I THINK I have read somewhere that if you have British Licence you hand it in in Queensland and they transfer it to a Aussie one. I dont think you have to redo your licence...
