Hi All

We are cat 6. applied for 175 visa Aug 2008, Was allocated a case officer in march 2009 and told to get our meds and police checks done. then 3 weeks later to be told we were beling put on hold due to the changes. Hopfully we will make it there one day although its not looking to promising with the capping and ceasing in the pipeline.

Hi julie & gary

What trade/skills are you going on, and which state do hope to go to when you finally get there? Have you switched to SS?

You seem to be in the exact same position as me and my family. We all need some good luck.

Hi Murky

We are still on a 175 hoping to go to Brisbane other half is a fitter.

We need Good luck is right, I think if the capping and ceasing does come in the 175 visas will be the first to go. the government are not going to like people coming in going where the skills are not needed.

Good luck

Hi julie & gary

I hope we are all somewhere at the top of the list and get in there before any of that starts to happen. We have wanted to go to NSW for a long time now and knew they wouldn,t state sponsor plumbers but we're hoping things might change in the near future with any new state migratioin plans.

Here's hoping, all fingers crossed

Hi Murky

Did you get your meds and police checks done? we did our police checks and the first part of the meds as requested then the changes happened. we were booked in to get the 2nd part of the meds done 2 weeks later but cancelled them such a waste of money.

Its hard to belive now that we will ever get there now all we can do is wait untill we hear more in July.

Hi julie & gary

Yes we were told to do police checks and medicals just after christmas 2009 but we asked for an extention on the meds and did them at the beginning of May, then about 3 weeks later our agents told us that it was a no go til 2010 at first. we wish that we hadn't held off with the meds now cos we were told back then once you had done your meds it was usually 6 weeks to getting your visa. We were gutted all that money down the drain. Now we will have to do them all again if they carry on with our case

Hi Murky

Lets hope its good news we get in July we have waited 2 years now so a few more weeks should'nt be too bad. I am glued to this forum everyday given the chance, just waiting to see a glimmer of hope that maybe things might have started moving and hoping all the time effort and money we have spent on the whole process has not been for nothing.

hope all goes well for you

Hi all,

I'm a September 2008 applicant for the 176 Family Sponsored visa (Advertising Specialist). Like Julie & Gary (and I believe many others) I'm glued to this forum on a daily basis to receive any bit of news as it happens.. Who would have thought this whole process would be so incredibly nerve wrecking and endlessly long when we first started this journey..?? Trying to keep a positive mind though and am hoping come July we will get some answers + see some movement again.. It certainly helps to hear everyone's thoughts and getting feedback from others who are in the same boat, not to mention the valuable posts from the agents on here + Gill.. Many thanks for that!

Good luck to all.

Hi All

Just wondering how many 2008 applicants like myself did their meds and police checks last year and have now ran out? I was told by my agent that the aus gov could extend by a few months if they wanted to, but normally you would have to make the move within a year of the date of meds would'nt you. So would that only leave a couple of months to get there?

Hi

Yeah I also think it would be a great sign if myself and family were asked to do them again soon no matter if bancrupts us all. I just wondered if anyone had any idea about what would happen about an extention?

I asked my agent a couple of months ago about my ielts and they said don't worry about that the application is already in. Don't know what he meant, i probably should have pushed him further on that.

Hi, still waiting

I thought the fact that we all had already been asked for police checks and meds that we already had a CO, but had shelved us for the time being. Is that not the case?

all this waiting is rubbish

Thanks for all your replies everyone, it appears there is quite a few of us been waiting since 2008, we also got our meds done last year in March so ours have well expired! what a waste of 560 quid!

I think if we can all use this thread to vent our emotions and keep each other updated with any news etc it might make things more bearable!!!

Roll on July when we might actually get somewhere! fingers and toes crossed everyone!

Thanks again

I think the IELTS is still valid as you have already applied, its only the medicals that expire once the 1 year validity period is over. Think i have read somewhere that where the medicals are past their expiry(though not that long) is still accepted on case by case basis and depends on your CO.

Hi All,

We applied for a 176 GSM cat 6, offshore, (wife's Aunty sponsoring) in Oct 2008. It must have been one of the last visas to be lodged before the 'big freeze' so we held off getting the Meds and PC's. It seems like it has been a lifetime waiting for something that was supposed to be 6-9 months wait (haha!). We have since had another child, who is now 1 and are beginning to think this whole thing may never happen...Everything crossed!

I sent my meds & police checks in Feb 2009 as requested by CO.

The Meds show as being 'met' as of March 2009.

Obviously, these have long since expired, but if they are already shown as being 'met' will I be requested to do them again?

Hi Baby Pom

This is the problem that no one seems to be able to answer at the moment. As we asked our agent and all they mentioned was this extention thingy, so i assumed that if we didn't get that we would have to do all meds and police checks again. Although we did ours in May 2009 all ours still say is Received. Am sure i read on a post either on here or BE that someone only had to do their X rays again i think, has anyone heard of that?

I don't see why we should have to pay for meds and PC's again, if they want updated meds they should provide the service free. We fulfilled our part of the bargain / contract, they messed it up, they should pay for them, not us.

Hi Jeffster

It isn't a bargain or a contract. It is an application for a privilege. The privilege is being allowed to migrate to a country that is not your country of origin.

I investigated this exact question about 6 months ago because you pay your money, you play by the rules, so if it isn't a contract then what is it?

I was told the above. Apparently people can muck you about as much as they like and as often as they like in order to decide whether or not you should benefit from the privilege.

I find it very odd but apparently that is the relevant law.

Cheers

Gill

Amazing. The very people who write, enforce and oversee contract, business, consumer and human rights laws won't apply them to their own Departments.

As for the arrogance of assuming it is a "privelege" to emigrate here, if the Government is supposed to represent the cream of Australian intellect then it would be a privelege for Australia to take me and most of PIO members since we are clearly a lot smarter than they are!

Hi Jill

Thanks for all the information you keep providing us. We want to go to Brisbane (Queensland) as we have family there. Queensland state are/were not sponsoring primary school teachers, so had no other option but to go family sponsored. Primary school teachers were on SOL list at time of application in July last year!

So now we wait and just pray that we don't get capped!!

You seem to be in the same situation as us. Family on The Sunshine Coast. Applied 475 regional family sponsored June 2009. OH occupation is Disabilities Service Officer. Was on the SOL when we applied, but not now.

Just need to hunker down and wait!

Hi everyone,

Thought I'd let everyone know I am still waiting, waiting and again waiting.

Let us hope that the new PM is a little kinder to us applicants (after all her family emigrated to Oz to allow her to get where she is, aswell as her talent, of course). At least the nice weather here helps a little and the footie takes your mind of matters, too. I reckon something must happen soon... The SOL list seems to be cropped a little and also the visa application stop unitl 1st July might have bought us some time. New applicants in our categories might be put off with the long wait at present. Let us all hope that we will get some good news soon. Everything crossed. :o)
