Hi everyone! It's busy on here lately, I guess the movement of dates has got us all chomping at the bit - it has got us thinking more about what to do! We've just accepted an offer on our house, YAY!! One very large less thing to worry about (assuming the sale goes through of course!) - but lots still to do. I was wondering, does anyone know if it's possible to apply for the police check before being contacted by a CO? Presumably I'll hear news of our grant before the last quarter of this year (I better had anyway!) and so we would still be within the 12 months to move to Aus.

Thanks in advance

Amanda

Hi Amanda

Great news on the house sale - congratulations.

We're thinking of having our police checks done so that at least we've achieved something and I don't think we need anything from Immi to get them done and as they last a year I would hope that there's little risk in them expiring.

Hope all goes well.

Thanks for the congrats Steve! Your house sale must seem like a long distant memory now - I'm not hugely excited at the prospect of all there is to do, but it's better now than last minute for sure! Good to know that you're considering doing the police checks early too, it's nice not to feel alone in these types of decisions :-) Hopefully someone has done them before being asked so we can get advice as to whether that all worked out okay.

Hi Amanda,

I was requested by our agent to do Police Checks when we we're requested for Meds but there is no referral letter for this to be done. Go onto the ACRO site and get them out of the way, that's' one less thing to stress about and I suppose it will feel pro-active. The only criteria is that you will have 12months from the date of your Police check (been earlier than meds) to enter Oz but I'm presuming you'll be doing that anyway.

It is getting exciting with lots of anticipated forth coming good news for applicants on the forum, bringing you closer to the front of the queue.

Cheers

Linda

Hi Linda,

I think that your application must be sat on the top of a pile on the desk of one of our "lesser spotted friends". So close but not quite there before the weekend

Good luck for early next week.

Cheers

We are currently assessing for finalization applications lodged up to 1 April 2014.

Yay!!! Linda let us know when you get the email!!!

Just returned from holiday to find that the date has moved to 1 April 2014! If I remember correctly there's quite a group of you who lodged in April 2014 - how exciting to think that you will soon be getting your exit passes from the Waiting Room. I am rooting for you all.

Thank you for all the tips and information re the police checks, medicals, AOS and form 80, so helpful to learn from all your experiences. Although we "2015ers" still have a long wait we can at least try to have all our ducks in a row for when we get a CO assigned. The 28 days afterwards sounds as if could be frantic.

When you all finally get to OZ on your permanent visas I hope you can still find the time to post tips/hints re all the things that need to be done to settle in. Your wisdom and knowledge so far has been invaluable.

Congratulations to everybody whose property sales are going through - it must be a huge relief. I haven't got rid of enough junk to present mine to anybody yet but I'm getting there.

Whenever anybody mentions the waiting room I have this picture in my head of lots of bottoms on benches, steadily sliding along to the door marked "This is the way to Australia" and others shuffling in to take their places!

Yes I think we will too - it's only money!

It'll make us feel we're achieving something.

I agree with the others about the police checks - you don't need anything from immi to get them and its something out of the way. I wish I'd done mine and not waited. Can I just add that its even more of a good idea if you need any police checks from other countries - if they need translating, you have to find a translator approved by the Australian govt. ant it all adds to the time. Mine arrived today (I take back everything I've ever said about Belgian govt. pen pushers - a five day turn around and they didn't charge me a penny, not even for the postage from Belgium! Now all I need is an approved translator.

Hi Joop

I'm sorry to bother you with yet more questions but I hadn't even thought about how to send the eighteen pages of form 80 back to immi ... I read your advice about scanning with interest and now realise that I don't know how to create a pdf file! Have Adobe and have just had an attempt to create a pdf with some old files, but the file keeps going to cloud? Any advice, I'd be really grateful.

Hi Fisher1,

I was just interested to know if you have to scan the Form 80, or if it can be posted? I know the email way will be quicker, but wondered what you had been advised by IMMI?

Thanks for all the info :)

Hi Moomin. Can't find the email ... I saved it and can never find saved emails on my iPad ... ( am in bed drinking tea at the mo). When I get up I'll check on the lap top, and post the answer back on here, but I am 99.9 percent sure you could post it. I'm emailing mine because we're going to be right on the edge of the 28 days, despite me thinking I was quite well prepared at the outset (do the police checks now!) Normally I'd much prefer to post such a big wodge of paper. Watch this space

Hi moomin

Ive looked through the email that came with the requests for form 80 etc, and do you know I cant find the bit I was sure I'd read that said you could mail it to the parent's centre. It might be me that's just addled after a morning trying to remember where we went on holiday in 2007 but if I were you I'd email the immigration and ask? Or does anyone else on here know? I don't want to lead you astray!

On the subject of immigration, does anyone on here happen to have the list of approved translators for the UK? I'm going to ring the embassy on Monday but if I had the list now it would save me a day ...

Hi Moomin,

I've been through the letter again carefully, and I think you do have to email the stuff back to them. the bit I remember about posting was actually a note that you could get in touch with them via the post.

We are hoping to be moving to Melbourne later this year. My partner is waiting for job sponser for his 457 visa and has had his job interview by Skype. He is coming up to 50 this September so running out of time. The 457 is for 4 years during which time we want to apply for our CPV. My son lives in Melbourne with his wife and my new twin grandchildren so I am desperate to be around for them growing up. My question is can we apply for CPV while on a 457 and can this be due from Australia and does it cost the same?

Firstly, is there any chance that your husband could apply directly for PR, to get an application in before he is 50, rather than go for a 457? I'm sure plenty of others will tell you that this would be the better, and cheaper, option.

If not, then he can hopefully get an employer to sponsor him for a 457, although it does seem that there are less of these visas being given now.

I am in Australia on a 457 now and yes you can apply for a CPV, while in Australia and on a 457. Your 457 visa remains valid until your CPV is granted. The cost is exactly the same as if you apply from the UK. I would advise that if you are going down this route, that you apply as soon as you are definite that you want to remain in Australia. The wait for the CPV is now around the 22-23 month time. If you don't get your CPV before your 457 runs out, there are very limited options to enable you to stay in Australia until your CPV is granted. I know, as I am in that position now, thanks to long delays in submitting due to a difficulties with an ex-husband .

As an extra thing to do, when the CPV is ready to be granted, you have to go offshore, a quick holiday to NZ, a few days in Fiji etc.

Good luck with your ventures

Hey Val, thanks so much for the quick reply. There is a reason why we are going this route as we have to sell our house to release the equity to pay the CPV. The agency we are using are specialists in the motor trade and based in Sydney and they are confident they will find a job sponser in Melbourne. There are a lot of openings for his trade in Melbourne so that's why we are hopeful this route will enable us to get there and then we can sort out our CPV once we are settled. Our plan is to rent for a year and then buy. We were thinking towards the end of the 2nd year to put in the application for permanent residency by which time we should be more settled. Can you tell me why it would be cheaper to do it from this end? Thanks

Hi Moomin

There was a vested interest in looking again at the letter from immi - I discovered that, despite their noting that Centrelink would contact them directly with all the information about AOS, there was a craftily hidden contradiction on the next page, instructing me to send a scanned copy of the AOS letter with the rest of my stuff. I missed it first time round and might not have spotted it if I hadn't been checking for you, so thank you!

So now my daughter has to scan the letter (when it arrives) and email it to me from Sydney, so that I can email it back to immi in Perth, even though Centrelink have already informed them of the outcome .....

As to the price I was just trying to say that if there was a way of applying for a PR visa, based on you or your husband's skills, that would be a whole lot cheaper than applying for a CPV. The permanent visa application, such as a 189 visa, would need to be lodged prior to the 50th birthday. A 189 visa would cost approx AUD 3600 while the CPV costs AUD 46000.

Good luck with the job interview and getting your 457 visa, if that is the way you go. Just remember to keep an eye on the timeframe for the CPV, the time it takes to process seems to be extending.

Hi everyone, I just wanted to congratulate everyone who are nearly there and have sold their houses, it is a bit depressing to think we probably have another year at least to wait, is there any way of knowing how many applications they get per year? We don't want to sell our house too early but likewise don't want to be held back after visa is hopefully issued. What is required on form 80? it sounds pretty horrendous!

Thank you all for keeping our seats warm in the waiting room and giving so much helpful advice we are slowly shuffling up.

CPV lodged 09/04/15 Acknowledged 11/05/15 First VAC receipt 17/04/15

Thanks again for the info Val. The PR only applies if you on the SKills list and under 50 ( he only has another 7months) and he on the consolidated skills list which means he has to have job skills assessments etc which given the time frame we have will be nearly impossible. Unfortunately a year earlier it might have been a more realistic option. I agree the costs are horrendous but I,m sure will be worth it. We have been visiting Melbourne for the last eight years and love it there and am also aware of the cost of living compared to the UK which despite a lot of horror stories on here I think are all relative to earnings. We will be in about the same financial position in Oz as we are here and both have a few more years of working ahead and looking forward to the challenge. Hope you manage to overcome all your problems with your visa.
