Guest flipflop
Flipflop...growing curious. Are you looking to come to Oz, have you gone back to the UK ...or are you even an Aussie? You keep popping up but can't work out whether you're happy in the UK or not. Born in Oz of English parents now back in the UK. I like both Countries in equal measures but am happy at present but who knows what the future holds.
bunbury61
What'dya mean not Islamic...what were they then? Did Iran exist at this point? I like this...taking my mind off slightly inconsiquential matters like 'have to choose whether to return to Uk or not by tommoroww'!!!!!:arghh: Well the koran wasnt written until the 7th century - the countries mentioned 100s of years before the koran was even written - Iran, libya, syria, & the north african muslim countries & others which cannot be determined by geography ,such as southern Turkey are all now Islamic. Its all very deep stuff , as the bible and the koran run almost parallel to each other. with the same outcome, seen from different perspectives. janieco
Be open and honest with your children but there`s only so much that they should be exposed to....It`s been a tough past few years for my wife and myself but to include the children in that, for me, is unthinkable...to express my dislike of living in Oz to my children would worry me that it would have an impact on them and it`s something I`ve never done....I`m Dad, they look up to me, I`m a role model, therefore if I was to moan constantly in front of them it would influence their own feelings and confuse them...what has been difficult is maintaining a facade of happiness but I think I`ve done a pretty good job...what is also difficult is having no family or good friends to confide in, to take the bad vibes away from the house, so to speak....but, things have settled down in the last year or so, my younger guys have simply been told that we are going back to live in the U.K. and I have been able to at last confide in my eldest by telling him that I`ve not really settled here and that mum and dad have decided to go and live in the U.K. and see what life has in store....my children have grown up here, my problems are not theirs, to unload my opinions of Australia on them would be unfair and this whole decision to move back and the reasons that go with it have been tough enough on my wife and myself...I am anxious about how they will settle, and the last thing I want to do is get back and then go on about how great it is to be back to them, they`re smart kids and I`m sure changes in moving back will slowly speak for themselves... Hi John i think you are doing every thing possible to enable a smooth transition back to U.K. Its all about communication and respect for all family members regardless of age and you demonstrate great skills on all fronts. Please keep us posted on your journey and that of all your family members. I just fail to see that it cant work out when parents are fulfilled and radiating happiness it just seems to keep growing through our kids as well. I think to lead by example is so important and you are saying to your kids that if you are not happy dont be afraid to do some thing about it and thats a mantra that all kids should be given and shown. Loads of luck and happiness to you an yours xxxxx
Guest treesea
Absolutely right...we're driving our kids mad with our bickering over whether to go back or not. We're highly stressed (understatement) but much as our very Aussie kids have said clearly that they do not want to live in the UK, they've also said 'just make a bloody decision'. I think this shows just how it's affected them. I feel like a terrible mum for putting them through this, and then to think of dragging them to another country ....what to do? I don't see how your children would know if they wanted to live in the UK until they got here. Maybe they need a sense of adventure? The proof of the pudding is in the eating. My OH still prefers Australia to here, but when one day he broached the subject with my kids, who are both Australian, their reaction was "Are you going alone?" There's so much going on here for kids. Lots of clubs and after school activities. Goodness knows where all the funding comes from, given the amount these clubs seem to do. Trips here and there, classes galore.

Guest treesea
must be edinburgh cos it's not like that in ayrshire and surrounding areas Scotland, and possibly Edinburgh in particular, seems to have money to burn. The Lord Provost has just shouted himself to a £4,000 Rabbie Burns supper, courtesy of the taxpayer. And my youngest was off to the cinema today, with the school, during a school day. I couldn't believe it. I don't remember ever going to the cinema with school, in all three places I went to school - England, New Zealand and Australia, - much less not having to pay for it. "So who's paying for it?" I asked him. "They are." "Who's they? The school?" "No, not the school. Not exactly." "Well, do you need some money for the ticket?" "No, they are going to pay for it" Aargh! Who's "THEY"! I remember being at primary school, down south in England, and asking my grandmother "who's they?" and she never would tell me. Looks like I now have a son who doesn't know either! I have a theory - "they" is the taxpayer, and probably English.

Guest YorkshireLad
I always was content in the UK.--But sometimes we tend to think that the grass is always greener on the other side, even if we are content.--- So going back to the UK,I know I will be happy.Plus having lived in Oz gave me a slightly new perspective of things, and made me appreciate England alot more, problems and all.--I may actually kiss the ground when we land in Heathrow in 2 and a half weeks from now.---

Guest adamcapri
hi all my first post on this forum so please be patient moving back to the uk i can only advise against, this country is going to be 3rd world within no time!! we are now so over populated that it takes 2.5 hours to travel from bristol to birmingham if you catch traffic. that along with massive increase in council tax no jobs and a lack of support for small business is proving to be a recipie for disaster. however if your on the dole and a drug user and alcoholic you will be pretty well off. coming to oz in next few weeks for a bit of reconassonce (is that spelled right) and looking forward to some sun as we havent had a summer here for 4 years. move back at your peril guys more money doesnt make for happiness! good luck anyhow adam

Novenber December through to March was cold as a winter should be.Godd amount of snow. April started getting warmer. July was sh!t and wet but the rest of the summer a summer Southern Australia bwould die for. A good amount of Sun and plenty of rain mix. Must admit went through a really dry patch from August till late October. but still had enough rain to keep the land green. Not a great November,so far but it is winter. Spoke to my mate in Cornwall he did say it was a wet summer but aint it always.

October the rains came down, the cold set in and it was the longest coldest winter ever I have experienced, there was no summer. Treesea and you seem to enjoy these amazing weather conditions that I appear to have missed. Nats
I dont know that I would ever move anywhere because of the weather, that really does seem a very silly reason to move away especially if things are going well where you are. Probably the biggest selling point for me re moving to Australia is the weather. Granted there are other reasons ... I am a nurse and we have looked at Canada & New Zealand, both highly in demand for nurses ... but its the lifestyle of Australia - supported by pretty much all-year-round sunshine that is steering us towards Australia, and I dont think that is silly at all. I am Scottish, very patriotic - love the lush green beautiful countryside, highlands & islands, I am very much an outdoor gal - I love hillwalking, fishing, camping etc but the fact is ... when it gets cold I am miserable and NOTHING will persuade me to go outdoors. I wish I could hibernate midway through september - April.

I am wondering what can be missing from this country that to me seems to have everything. It is missing Eastenders, Marks & Spencers, Primark, Waitrose, Asda, Gordon Brown, the list is endless. I am finding it so terribly hard here and wondered what an earth brought me to this "land of nothing":laugh:oh! and I forgot X Factor!. I was shocked at getting off the plane and not having all of the above confront me after passing through Immigration! Sick of buying tissues!
