despite what I say about the Kronebourg and I have managed to find a watering hole that sells it.

though I rarely drink there and usually always buy the default beer, Carlton Draft.

As for pints, they just make me feel bloated now.

Deffo agree on the snags but the steaks and food is much nicer than UK, except the milk and cheese though.

What bugs me about oz?

Plenty of things-drought,flies,lack of infrastructure, government incompetence etc but none of it makes me feel any less proud of my country,I love the time I spend in the UK with my GF but I always know I'm coming home when the plane touches down,Australia has lots of problems, just like almost every country in the world.

But when it comes to day to day annoyances I don't think Australia has any more of them than anywhere else.

BTW you can get good sausages in Australia-you just have to know where to find them-and when you do find them they probably won't be in cellophane.:biggrin:

there is nothing more pathetic than seeing english people using the term "whinging poms" are you lot trying to be an aussie or something?? or just trying to brown nose to them?? the simple act of being outspoken is often labelled as whinging, nothing gives me greater pleasure than hearing aussies whinging in the supermarkets/pubs/casino as they are coming to terms with the price of most things these days, they are doing what brits have always done, and one more point i bet there is little any of you lot on here could tell me about this country as i bet you are all new poms and not like us sons of ten pounders that were brought here against our will at a young age!

Can see why you're sensitive to the use of that phrase. :)

Well you can't put Union Jack flags up anywhere in public view - Overhead a heated debate in market in town centre where market trader (traded as a butcher there all his working life) wanted to put St George flag inside his shop and was asked to take it down. This happens a lot.

You can be patriotic but only in your head!!

See a Union Flag flying in a state run school today. Can you explain this?

What bugged me was the Aussies thinking their country is the best in the world...When they've only ever been on a plane to visit Tasmania!!!

And the endless stream of ants in the house.

And the supermarkets were rubbish.

And the boredom at the weekends.

Australia "is" the best country in the world.... thats why me & quite a few other people are still looking for visa's to go live there :-)

Hilarious! MOVE TO VICTORIA, live in Melbourne. It is fantastic. I have lived in Europe and North America and I think that Australia is the BEST. Sure, I miss the UK on occasion (mainly family and friends) but once the decision was made to settle here, I knew I had to get on with it. All the Aussies I have met have been great. I don't care for sport really but have easily adopted AFL, which I find fun and inclusive. WHO cares about cricket anyway? (NOT me!).

Why are so many people obsessed with supermarkets? I go to the market, and the butchers. (and we are fortunate enough to have Aldi for the rest!). I find food is generally more varied, cheaper and fresher here than it EVER was in the UK.

Either choose where you settle in Oz more carefully, or move to Victoria!

The fact I can live on 3 acres within an hour of Brisbane CBD for $315,000.

Bloody extortionate it is.

That and the weather.

Really DON'T know why I don't return to the UK forthwith ...

Apologies if this has already been said but I'm reading this thread late.

the simple act of being outspoken is often labelled as whinging

I've found that any comment and not necessarily a criticism of Australia is seen negatively and the Aussies have an attitude of Bugger off then. My old boss in the UK and I (and colleagues) loved having a light hearted discussions about politics, how crap Bristol City Council etc etc, and it is just taken as a discussion.

In trying to learn about Australia or commenting on what is different (no mention of whether something is better in the UK or not) I'm seen as a whingeing pom. There are certainly many things that are different here and I cannot learn about them if I cannot talk to people as adults at work. I've even been criticised for my pronunciation of legal terms (working in law) which i know are correct as they are originally French and I speak French fluently too!!

Probably why my contract has not been renewed but do I give a stuff?
