Bobj
A good session off the rocks, top of the tide was 8am so I got there 6.00 am...First cast with the chrome lure was a miss, second cast was a strike but no hook-up. Carried on for a few more casts and bingo! one nice golden snapper measuring 56 cm (22") and 3.4 kg (7.5 lbs) A quick photo and into a shady spot for it. A few casts later, a nice spotty mackerel and that, too, went into the shady spot. Another cast and this fine fellow, a wolf herring. Strictly for bait... All finished at the turn of the tide at 8 am. Cheers, Bobj.

Guest Working to fish
Hi all, Been reading the threads and I am keen to join in, We have been here in Oz since Sept 2009, relative new to sea fishing, and we are trying different areas around where we live, we live in burpengary, QLD My question/s are where can we go and get some good fish (well try), recently we have been to Scarborough near the marina, we have had a few Squire, Brim but these seem to have died off there, also had a 1m ray but had to let it go, no way was i bringing that up the rock face plus some catfish. We have tried Queens Beach in Redcliffe the other night and Adele caught a Grass Sweetlip, also we ave been to Bribie Island to the right when you go over the bridge had little there mainly small brim, plus a flathead. So we are open to new places to try and baits we should possible use, we try prawn but seem to get loads of bites with Chicken. Also if anyone is local to us would be good to meet up one day when you are out fishing or failing that meet up any way for a drink. Prior to 12pm coffee, after 12 beer. Look forward to hearing from you all with thoughts etc..... Plus in the new year I am looking to go out deep sea fishing, if anyone would be interested would be good to hear from you, plus if you know any decent charter boats i could price up. Thanks Steve Hi ,Kev is near your neck of the woods ,so he may know of some good spots ,to drop a line. If your ever up the coast ,caloundra is a good spot .The passage can be ok ,on some days ,but tbo a little over fished .I tend to go out to sea to fish myself ,There are loads of charter boats out there ,so good luck when you go out. There are a few which go out of mooloolaba, but ask 1st which reef they are fishing . The locals seem to have killed the fishing off. In the east, there are lotsa fish to be caught. Bag limits do apply but not to the extent as in WA. There are several areas in Qld that you could get your fill of fishing, from barra to whiting and flathead to tuna. Naturally, the further north one goes, the better the fishing. Having said that, I've seen some brilliant fishing in most areas from Central coastal NSW to the Northern Territory. What type of boat do you have, or are you getting? Cheers, Bobj. I've got a Savage 4.3 centre console. a tad too heavy for one bloke to retrieve...Otherwise, I'd be out there fishing for the barra...And I wouldn't have to advertise for a deckie. Plenty dorado/dollies/mahi mahi under almost any flotsam around the Sunshine Coast. A fish I forgot to mention, the pearl perch is fairly common, especially in the deeper water; they are a close cousin of the WA dhu fish, but only grow to about 6 kg. Cheers, Bobj. Guest Working to fish
Barwon banks. This report is for johno ,our new fisherman ,on the thread . well this has been along time comeing ,we have been planing this trip for months, the barwon banks, are located some 40k off mooloolaba. We have been itching to get out there for ages, it was just a matter of time waiting for the right weather and enough experience before we were confident to make the trip. We headed out of mooloolaba at 4.30 am and the trip out took us around 2 hours, we stopped once or twice to cast a few lures into bubbling bait fish. Once we hit Barwon Banks southern tip we were a little bit put off to find 5 trawlers anchored up. We trawled round for a while, anchored up in around 34m of water ,we were on the fish in no time, nothing great but at least we were catching. Found it nigh on impossible to get the hooks to the bottom what with the way the current was running, no amount of weight would get the hooks to the bottom. We then opted to trawl around for a while without much success we then anchored up in another spot and pretty well cleaned up on many reef fish. Some we were unsure what they were, photos to follow, hopefully someone might be able to tell us what they are. In all the trip was well worth while, would defo do it again, glad to say i can now boast that along with Pete i have now fished Barwon Banks. eddie
