Hi Gillian.

Our 176 came through really quickly. We applied Nov for 175, changed and went for SS in March i think it was and the visa came thru in May. The SS itself was back within 2 weeks. We used an agent so Im not sure if that made it quicker and not sure if SS wait time has increased now but we really werent expecting it all to be done in 6 months!!!

We are heading out on our reccie on 18 Sept for 6 weeks. OH has decided to take the job in Adelaide now rather than MEL (as its one place we havent yet been)

Hope it all works out for you.

Hey all, my name is Karl, I have a interview with Woods in Edinburgh on the 26 September. I'm a spray painter with over 10 years experiance. How long does the whole process take if im successful with my interview, I have no ties i.e. no children or house to sell etc. Any and all imformation would be very grateful. How much does the process cost? Where in Melbourne is nice to live? Do woods offer private healthcare? How long is the contract of employment? Can you apply for p/r after a peroid of time with a 457 visa? What are the bodyshops themselves like, What processes are the using (by this i mean are the waterbourne yet or stil using solvent, are they on a dry sanding system?) Do they work to bonus or is it a flat rate? What is the wage like? What is the standard of work like? I know that is a lot of questions but if you could help i would be gratful. Thankyou for your help and i look forward to hopefully seeing you all soon

Hi Karl,

The timeline for the visa application will vary, if all the paperwork is up together and everything is correct then I believe it can be a matter of weeks. Areas to live? Its all personal preferance really, we live in Berwick and we love it. PR can be applied for after only a few months I believe but you may have to do a TRA, others on here will be able to give better advice then me on this matter. I cannot discuss wages as they pay depending on experiance and qualifications. You will find yourself repairing older stuff that in the UK may well have been written off, this is because cars hold their value better over here. I hope this helps you? Best of luck in the interview and let us know, it will be good to see how many get the jobs.

Hey Terry, Thankyou for your advice. That has helped loads. Where I work now we to lot of insurance work for the likes of direct line, tesco,( i think it all falls under the rbs umbrella) Additionally to this we restore mark 1 and 2 Escorts to show as well as minis. We also work on slightly older cars but usually no more than say 8 to 10 years old. Would it it possible for you to share how many vacancies they are looking to fill with us all. Also if poss what kinds of questions did they ask at interview, I've never really had to have an interview before as i have always been approached and asked would i go work for them. I live in the lake district in cumbira so everybody has a whos' who of people in the trade and what they are capable of. Oh 1 more thing did you go on a Ata course over here in the uk before you left? my qualificationa are a nvq 3 in vechile refinnishing and graduated top of my class. Im still waiting to go on the ata course. thanks for your time. I really hope i get a job and maybe see you all soon.

Hi Karl,

Im sure Woods will tell you at the interviews how many spaces they are hoping to fill. I also did a lot of research into the cost of living in Aus and also did as much research as possible on the company.

As for ATA accreditation I was too honest for my own good, the comapny I worked for in the UK were going to send me off but I told them of my plan to leave so they sent another guy. In all fairness your NVQ will be enough to get you over here.

Im sure you will do fine at the interview just do as much research as you possibly can.

Terry.

Hey Terry thankyou so much for your help so far. If i may pick your brains just a little more though please, Do you have any websites that you would reccomend to me on A the cost of living in Melbourne and B research about the company. I also havent gone on the Ata as yet but they are wanting to send me on the course and same as you I would rather be upfront and honest eith them. Any other info would be really good. thankyou for your time.

We're hoping to make the move around March time all going well and if we've managed to save enough money up by then !!!

Thanks for everything, if it wasn't for you we wouldn't have know about Woods and wouldn't have this offer. :notworthy:

We look forward to meeting you early next year !!

Thanks again,

Lynne and Steve
