Prospective Marriage Visa - applied today

In my opinion the wait is the worst bit because its just long and frustrating but I found the application itself pretty easy going, though trying to figure out what they actually need in the application before sending it off was annoying, didn't seem to be able to find all the info in one place. And I dunno if anyone else found it to be the same as us but our case officer is pretty crap for emailing, just kinda like really unfriendly and brief with everything. He was ok to talk to on the phone but yeah, the emails are quite sterile and generally lacking information haha. Hoping something comes tomorrow, if not that's another week gone.. *yawn*!

Hiya Kell and all on here.

Well my deadline is up tomorrow for recieving visa but instead i got a letter yesterday asking for further medicals for my partner. They have only had all other stuff for ages and could of asked for these extras earlier but i think they just like to punish us. C/O's were all dentists and doctors in there previous jobs, (just enjoyed inflicting pain and making you wait.)

Well best wishes to all and i go back to the waiting game.

Hey Neal,

That sucks! Sorry to hear about that. I'm hoping they don't ask us for extra stuff now. Why make you wait all this time just to tell you that they need more stuff, it's so weird! I don't think c.o's have souls, hehe. We're just being stringed along too, we were hoping to be going in less than 2 weeks but yeah, its crept up and I guess we won't be going then now unless we hear something today. Wanted to go before Alex's birthday on the 3rd. Never mind. Best wishes to you and your family too

Hi people

Thanks for that info Miley - it made me even more curious about why my application was still sitting around but it's great that the wheels are in motion of your application.

I emailed again and got the same reply of it being 10 working days before a C/O will contact - I also rang and got the same response. I said I knew someone (did not say anymore that) who had handed in their application after mine and had been allocated a C/O and asked why I haven't - the gentleman said that applications re put into piles in alphabetical order (my surname begins with H) and he said would hear within 10-15 days (I should have asked if this was 10-15 working days but I was trying to talk quickly as I have already clocked up such a costly mobile phone bill with phonecalls to Immi). This is all very stressful.

You're right Kel0x - the hanging around for the application to be processed is the worst part about it all and I've only just started the waiting game!

Oh Neal, how annoying is that! How long will it take for your partner to get these new medical docs sorted?

How you going Nadjez?

Hey guys and gals - I know this following smiley means confused but it also looks like how alot of us must be feeling/looking - going absolutely loopey to the point we are getting a nervous twitch! lol:confused:

I need a drink! What the hell it's the weekend!:spinny:

Hi smiler ,Have another drink for me to

As far as waiting for more medical records i dont know. My partner has MS although it is quite mild as far as MS goes. My CO has already told me that everything about my application has been passed and signed off and its now just the medicals holding everything up. Just anoying they waited weeks to tell me they needed the extra documents. Have forwarded the letter from the CO to my partners specialist and just as long as it takes NHS to respond (god help us).

I just want to go home (lol) its cold and wet here now and dont like it.

Regards all and hope things pick up soon.

Hi people

Nadjez, I don't know if you have seen the new fee increases. The PMV will be $1705 so nearly a $300 increase. The recession is a wicked thing. :(

I'm still waiting to hear from a C/O. At this rate, we will have to cancel our provisional marriage date in Oz (supposed to be early September) The waiting is a wicked thing. lol

I am not too sure how the alphabetical system with the applications work at Immi as it could be a number of ways eg it could be sets of application A-D and E-H, etc. Ho hum I will just sit twiddling my thumbs :)

How are all of you going? Any news Kel0x?

OH GOD! $1705 :(

My fiance is a student at the moment, and I am getting myself into all sorts of debt trying to get us together again. Flights, Visas, Medicals... it's just going to get so much worse.

I hate that money can hold two people apart! Or being born in a different country, for that matter.

Hey everyone

GOOD NEWS!! at last!

The visa confirmation email just came, just gotta send off his passport now and book the flights!!

That brings it to a total of 10 and a half weeks, sent off the application on the 14th or 15th of April and got confirmation today.

It's all gotten very real now, I can't wait! A bit nervous though, as I've not been back there since I was a kid, but I have always wanted to move back since the day I got here.

I hope everyone else who's waiting hears something soon too, at least you've got a rough idea now of how long you can expect to wait for a prospective marriage visa (not the 3-4 months average that the other family visas can take).

Plus there was no mention of AoS despite me the sponsor being a student with no money. Woohoo!!

Good luck everyone :) xx

Yaaaaaaaaaaaah! Kel0x!

Congrautulations!!! Can't begin to imagine that feeling after all the hard work of putting the application together and then the long, nail-biting wait for it to be processed to it all being finalised.

When were to thinking of going? If it is in September/October time then maybe check out to the Singapore Airlines sale - not sure what availability is left but worth a try.

Oh by the way I found out my C/O is in London (the .com.au email address confused me for a minute)

Well let us know how you get on.

Thanks Nadjez for the congrats on finally getting a C/O. Will just play the next waiting game now. lol

Chat soon

Flights are booked, leaving in 3 weeks! No point hanging around :) going with Singapore airlines and having a stop over on the way (the longest Alex has flown before was 8 hours and that killed him haha). And it doesn't cost much extra, just staying in the singapore airport hotel. So excited!! Time to get packingg :)

Guest EdithDumplings

Hi there! I just got my prospective marriage visa granted yesterday - WHEEE!!!! - so I'll post what I included in my app in case it helps anyone.

I posted my application on Thurs 18th June, it was received on Mon 22nd. I had frontloaded my medicals and police checks. On Friday 26th I received the Special Delivery envelope back with the originals of my documents I had sent, plus the receipt.

Then on Wednesday 1st I got an email saying it had been granted! I am seriously amazed at how quick it was! I was expecting to have a telephone interview but nothing like that even happened. I've just sent my passport off to them today and I'm flying away in 36 days!

I included (in this order)

passport photos (paperclipped in a sealed envelope so nothing falls out)

47SP (with the payment mandate form from the UK embassy's website)

40SP

certified copy of my and my partners passports and birth certificates (I got mine certified at the Post Office for £6.70)

UK police certificate

Aus police certificate

copy of my receipt for the medical (just in case)

3 statutory declaration 888s from Australians - 2 were my partners parents and one was a mutual friend

My relationship statement (4 pages long)

Partner's relationship statement (2.5 pages long)

Financial evidence: our tenancy agreement from Australia, a handful of utility bills in either of our names to that address (we didn't have any bills in both our names or a joint bank account), 2 letters from my partner's employers stating how long he worked there, his uni enrolment certificate (he's at uni and not currently working, but they didn't ask for an Assurance of Support), my old uni enrolment form from when I was studying over there, a few bank statements, our Notice of Intended Marriage.

Social evidence: We've been apart for about a year now while I've been living in London, so we put in about 2 or 3 itemised phone bills each, to proof contact was maintained during the period of separation, plus printouts of our Skype history. Travel tickets from anywhere we've been together. A printout of about 20 photos of us looking smiley and happy from the past 3 years! Receipts for our wedding bands. We didn't have any wedding or party joint invitations.

I think that's all - although it doesn't sound very much seeing as we've spent the last 3 or 4 months collecting various documents!

Nothing was stapled or foldered - Each separate section was paperclipped, and the whole lot was bulldog clipped together to make sure nothing fell out, then straight into a Special Delivery envelope.

So obviously it helped that we have lived together before in Australia, although it didn't seem to matter that we didn't have a joint bank account. I was worried that we could only get 3 people to do 888s, but that seemed fine too.

I hope that helped someone at least, I was worried we didn't have enough and that I'd have to face an interrogation over the phone at least!

I'm over the moon now, I feel like I'm finally out of limbo and can start packing my stuff!

Thanks for everyone on this forum who helped me on my way to getting the visa, your advice was absolutely invaluable to me. Let me know if I can be of any help to anyone else. :)

Wow EdithDumplings - congratulations!!

That will be a big boost for the rest of us out there who are waiting for news. I handed mine in (in person) on the 11th June and had to wait 2 weeks before I was allocated a C/O.

I think I have the same type of evidence as you - frontloaded the whole lot. It would be interesting to know who you had in Immi (of course don't put the name on the thread).

So when do you reckon you will get out there?

Well done again and thanks for letting us know.

Whoopee! Go and have a drink!

Guest Katc78

So nice to read that others are in the same or similar situation to me and my boyfriend/fiance...

I'm Aussie (have a Brit passport as well), he's British, and we're getting reading to submit our application for the prospective marriage visa. Snags are that we don't have much money, mainly because he lost his job in November last year and didn't get another til about six weeks ago... He's been married before but ages ago now and it was to a Canadian, so hopefully that doesn't look sus or anything.

We're struggling big time with what to provide for the application! We'll have been together 12 months in August, but proving that is too difficult, hence the prospective marriage thing.

So far we've got our letter from the celebrant, my man's police check thing, and have both written much of our 'statements', which is a weird thing to have to do. I'm getting an Aussie friend over here to write a stat dec for us, but no idea who else to get to do one. I'll submit some paperwork showing I own a house in Aus, as that will prob provide enough evidence that I can support him financially. Then we just need the money!

Been told not to submit the medical thing beforehand - rang an approved doctor nearby who told us they would never do the check first, that they wait for confirmation from the Aussie HC before they do checks... Seemed weird, what do people think of that??

The plan is to go home in Dec and marry in March - eeeek, so much to do, that's if the visa actually comes through! :goofy:

Best of luck to all, let's pray they don't have any backlogs!!!

Hey Katc,

Depends how much of a hurry you're in, but front load as much as possible. Don't listen to doctors, they are, after all, doctors, not immi officers. Get your phone records, leases, utilities, insurances, travel docs etc together and (according to our solicitor) no more or less than 4 stat decs, include a parent or two if they are living as it looks more suss if they don't comment (so I hear). A couple of pages of scanned photos of you both (4 per A4 pg) and the full on 'were you ready to go there yet' declarations from you both.

After submission we were asked for further evidence we planned to get married (WTF?) as if we should have been planning a full on wedding based on the ridiculously vague time scales they give (app been in 4.5mths and counting). So glad I haven't ACTUALLY planned anything since our initial date on NOIM was early Sept and we've heard bugger all from them. I'd be freaking out if I was less cynical and really believed we might get married in september.

Good luck with it all, if you haven't already done so, read this thread carefully as there is lots of useful information in the posts here and heaps of support from all xx
