Hi everyone,

I am in desperate need for help with how to fill out the SR 2.6 trade evidence form for an electrician.

I am confused as to exactly what information they are after? They are small boxes on the form, but they seem to be asking for a very detailed step by step explanations.

for example on page one, competency groups, question 1, it asks what is your experience in installing wiring accessories and associated equipment, but on the header it asks you to describe in detail your work experience and include the processes and procedures used.

Can anyone let me know how much detail i need to put down or has anyone got any examples i could overlook to give me some idea?

thanks in advance.

Ricky

I had the same problem. What I did was go onto the VETASSESS web site and download the form in word format. That way you can reduce the size of the text and type a lot more. I was unsure what to put so I wrote as much as possible in detail and I passed ok lasts week. I would'nt worry too much as I think they go more on you work references.

Thanks for your reply. Did you write it in great detail of exactly how to wire the specific job you had chosen for this question? Or did you just write a rough idea as if the reader understands electrical work?

ie. the testing question, could be quite involved in description or simply a list of tests in order.

thanks for your help.

Hi Ricky

They want to know absolutely everything from what screwdriver you use to how often and for which screw... Honest.. The more info you provide the better outcome for you..

There is a good electricians thread on here which covers the process in great detail..

Hi, sorry for jumping in but we are having the same prob doing the evidence form for bricklaying. We really are struggling to get info in to boxes mainly because hubby has work experience only, no quals. My question is can you use another sheet to complete the evidence or do you have to get it in the box. Just worried we might omit the important stuff.

Info 4 u all doing Vet,

read this let me know what you all think its all current info.

When you make your application for migration you shall be going down the Vatessess route. This visa is for migration purposes only. The system is now setup for all applicants to do a trade test in the UK consisting of Theory & practical

To gain the OTSR

1st if you give info of work projects like lots of contracting work on industrial, commercial, domestic work you supply enough evidence & info on the type of installations you have worked on also all differing tools used. If they feel that's enough evidence you shall be granted the OTSR Electrical Mechanic, end of story.

You must say you have been “fabricating” lots of steel work, working in contracting working on 230V & 415V applications for XX amount of years & the company’s you have worked for, also working in commercial & domestic work, explain all the projects you have worked on & fabricated things Like installing lots of steel conduits of all sizes, the use of bushes, couplings, steel Trunking & accessories &, SWA explain about glands.

Pyro & accessories also FP200, also all the different types of cables & sizes & all lugs tools used like different crimpers.

It must look & read like you have been doing a loads of range installation work also list all switchboards (Consumer units 230V & 415V mainly industrial) this way you should get the OTSR Also list all the Projects you have worked on with motors stop starts, emergency lighting, lifts,Fire alarms, but mainly construction in the electrical field.

Also include steel tray fabrications & the likes that way you should be on a winner for the OTSR, if you keep mentioning 230V 415V also large switchboards where you’re using your skills in construction that they like.

The more you can add in regarding the different types of work projects & the style of work like managing projects with the use of all single & three phase equipment & associated switchgear, cables & all that comes with this type of work.

If you’re unable to get letters from the UK then you can do a stat dec, have a Police officer sign it or better a magistrate, once signed this document becomes a legal document & can be then accepted.

Now then read more below. (They love the words like 230V & 415V applications)

I recommend PEER in S/A that’s the easiest route believe me to gain the Unrestricted Electrical License.

With the Vatessess You still end up with the Cert for migration but in the long run it’s a nightmare mainly due to other components that come into play when you’re in Australia.

This means you can still do the Unrestricted Electrical License exams at PEER when over here; however there is a different system for Vatessess students.

For people who get the Cert of Electrical Mechanic & General Electrician, Electrical Fitter can also attend PEER to do there Unrestricted Electrical License no problems.

People have now to do the Vatassess route you now do what’s called Gap training of 160 hours training in a classroom at Tafe (College) or other method.???? also you must work onsite for 12 months keeping a log book of all work completed on a continual basis without any breaks in the work time of the 12 months.

you won’t get a Unrestricted Electrical License until you have done this logbook you only get a ”Restricted license” meaning you’re not allowed by LAW to work on your own.??? Who is going to employ a person who must have all work checked on a daily basis.

This is mainly for people doing Vatassess, people can go to PEER in S/A do the exams then have the Unrestricted Electrical License transferred to the state you are going to reside in, But as I say this is for vatassess people mainly even though you may do the PEER route you must do this Log Book for 12 months.

Problems are

lower pay

work checked continually

if you have a gap in the 12 months your buggered.(start again if you have a break in employment)

You can only have a restricted license for a few years then that’s it.

As I say I got this from the main man on Friday 23/7/2009 from PEER S/A

I hope this info is of some help to you all maybe not what you’re expecting but its real information When you do the application you must have all documents signed & dated then the documents become a legal document make lots of copies make sure all is correct or the application shall be returned to you with little info stating why or what the problem may be from the migration dept.

It’s” illegal” to work in any state across Australia without the Unrestricted Electrical License, NO insurance company would touch a claim if anything was to go wrong.

Then if you intend to work for yourself (Another bastard of a job).?? You must do this?

After obtaining the Unrestricted Electrical License you can go to the nearest Tafe (College) and do a XXX week x 1 night per week doing an Electrical Contractors Business course.

This is for the Electrical Contractors License. You cannot get Insurance without the electrical contractor’s license. (Very good of them) (Bastards)

When you have passed this course then you must obtain Insurance. It’s become normal now for Indemnity cover of $10,000,000 (Ten Million) dollars insurance cover.

Then you can legally quote for jobs in a legal capacity as I say this is only if you intend to be working for yourself, if you work for a company then all you require is the Unrestricted Electrical License.

If you intend to setup your own company & you have the Unrestricted Electrical License every job you do for any customer you must supply that customer with a COES (Certificate of Electrical Safety) one copy direct to the customer one copy to Energy Safe the other copy you keep for 7 years. Most installations are now being audited to about 30% in all states.

Getting the OTSR or ATRC may seem to be the easy part, However once your here this is exactly what must be achieved to work as a fully licensed electrician in Australia.

Most Migration “Agents” (That’s a laugh) do NOT inform people about the information above you pay them your money then that’s your lot you’re on your own when you get here.

The duration of the Unrestricted Electrical License is 5 year it’s your responsibility to renew the license you get a renewal reminder then that's all if you DON'T renew you must sit all exams again.

The duration of the Contractors course in Melbourne is about 12 weeks x one night per week.

Cost of A class license about $270.00 per 5 years

Electrical Contractors course Now has become Small Business Course in S/A cost $1,160.00 to date 27/5/2009 one payment only. The course 2 x modules 1st Legal requirements + 2nd financial costing & planning the course is completed over three Sundays at PEER total duration of the course = 60 hours inclusive of projects completed at home. (Most of the work is achieved at home)

Cost of Contractors license about $300.00 per year.

Cost of Insurance depends on how much cover you require I have $10,000,000 (Ten Million) costing $500.00 per year.

There is also a Basic Safety induction course x 6 hour done in 1 day $65.00 at PEER

The original Certificate was the Green card or red it’s become the White card in S/A.

This card is recognised Australia wide, most sites shall require you to hold this card or you will NOT be allowed on site to work.??

This 1 x day course can be done at PEER.

The contractors course can be done Via correspondence i have an agreement with PEER if you do the distance electrical course with them, you can also do the contractors course (Self employed only) via distance correspondence.

Some more info for people doing vet,

The VETASSESS consortium conducts assessments for trades people migrating to Australia under the general skilled migration visa program.

The successful candidates receive an OTSR (Offshore Technical Skills Record) and they do not have to obtain an ARTC (Australian Recognised Trade Certificate) from TRA (Trades Recognition Australia) to obtain a Certificate III in electrotechnology – electrician. To gain the electrician qualification, that is used for licencing purposes, they are required to complete the gap training.

The gap training has been developed by the industry skillscouncil responsible for the electrotechnology industry, ee-oz http://ee-oz.com.au/ and is delivered by registered training organisations. Details of the gap training advice forelectrician can be found in .pdf format here:

http://www.ee-oz.com.au/files/Post%20VETASSESS%20Aust%20Min%20Gap%20Training/Gap%20Training%20Process%20_Electrician_R1.pdf

however students can do the Gap & Logbook in xxxxx time frame read this also.again fro vet in melbourne

If a company employs a person doing the log book & say after 5 weeks the company are happy with this persons skills the company can sign of the book end of story. then i asked about the Gap, this can be done at a recognized Tafe(College) in the state your going to live in it can be done over 5 days he told me, or the 160 hours Total time can also be spread over time doing projects at home so its not actually 160 hours class time. however there are only certain Tafe's that do this training so you may have to shop around for the nearest Tafe (College).

So there is some light at the end of the Tunnel for people even though its a bloody hard slog for you all.

Arthur
