1. He cant go for a parent visa as he has got my brother and sister living in the UK. If your running your own business your normally on call 24/7 plus the hours worked in the week, book keeping and so on. All in all the hours mount up which prob would be over 38 hours per week. When I first came out on a 457 sponsor. There was times where my employers work dryed up and was layed off for a few days but made it up over following weeks with call outs. Thats just the way it goes with a small business. As long as they can see your surporting your self with there required income they leave you alone. Ive not seen the changes with the 457 and I know all the other visa's have changed thats why its difficult to find the right visa for him.
 2. Think if your running you own business they nt gonna know what hours your working. Just goes down as 38 hours on the books as a salary
 3. I am a perminant resident on a 176 visa and my Father wants to move out here with us. We are thinking of setting up a electrical contactors and pest control business but trying to work out which visa he could move out on. He has ran a business him self for over 9 year and is also a manager at Dunlop in the UK. So he has plenty of experiance, qualifications and skills. He only wants to semi-retire, so only really wants to work about 20 hours per week. Which visa would be the best one to go for???
 4. Hi Does any one know whats involved with a Pre-Grant letter? We are currently im Oz on a 457 visa and fingers crossed should receive our 176 pre-grant letter next week as our CO is finalizing our case. We are planning to go to Fiji for the week next week, do we have to go to a Australian embassy to get a label in our passport or is it done automatically now??
 5. Noosa, its like living in paradise. Never been to a place as beautiful
 6. I think for the 1st year of moving here you need to get a pool to get it out of your system. We have been here 12 months and not used our pool much at all. Its cost us about $100 a week extra in rent than it would to rent a house same size in the same area. Running a pool dont really cost much if your not heating it. We have a pool company come round once a month to check the pool and put any chemicals in and on avenge its about $20 per month for extra chemicals plus we buy our own chlorine tablets which is about $30 which last the month, longer in winter. You dont need to change the water but will need to top it up and empty some from time to time. It can be hard trying to keep the balance right from day to day with the weather changes. The hot sun can strip all the chlorine out of the pool plus heavy rain can cause problems too. Some pools have a auto chlorinator making life a lot easier. We have got a problem at the moment with our pool being cloudy and green from the sun, trying chemicals to clear it but not having much luck. If you take water a sample to a pool shop they test it for free and guild you to what you need to do. Each week you need to vac pool, back flush the filter and clean the skimmer basket, takes about half hour then just do a test your self to see what the waters like. I used test strips and just match the colours up on the strip to the chart on the bottle. When our tenants contract is up we are just going for a house closer to the beach and just go the aquatic centre when we want to swim but as I say you need to find out for your self if its really worth having a pool and if you will use it. Remember unless its heated your not going to use it in the winter. Hope this helps Stew
 7. No nothing was ever said by the 457 case worker but I did say in my holiday visa application we had a 457 visa in process and we wanted to come out for a holiday to figure every thing out before starting work.
 8. I think you can leave you employer but my agent said some thing about after 6 months and its not a thing that DIAC like to see. Not 100% sure At the end of the day you are on a permeant Visa so not going to watch or check your moves and wouldn't of thought they could make you stay at the same company. Hope some one else can give you a better idea of it all as ive never seen any guild lines on changing company.
 9. We tried to apply for a holiday visa last year while waiting for our 457 application and had it declined. You could always try like we did as it is free to apply online, you have nothing to lose.
 10. Ok thanks Ill have a look
 11. Does anyone know the timelines for 856 ENS visa's now??? We are currently here on a 457 visa awaiting on a 175 visa to go through but not sure if I should apply for an ENS visa now I am eligible after passing exams for General Electrician License. We original applied for 175 back in June 09 so it will be processed before Dec 11. Will ENS be quicker as my employer will sponsor me??
 12. You can work for someone but im sure your not allowed to set up a business on a 457 visa, I think you may have to apply for a Business visa or become permanent. Not 100% but that the way I understood it when I applied for my 457 but may be wrong. Try reading up on DIACS web site for guidelines or email DIAC.
 13. Thanks Mate, its a great help. Was worried because of not knowing what to expect but he seems a nice guy. Just hope I can get through it ok. Stew

 16. 4 Years as a permanent resident, or 3 years of a temporary resident plus 1 year of permanent to make up the 4 years. Not sure what ur visa is.
 17. You can only apply for a RSMS and ENS only if you have a full electrical Licence. Ive have had to apply for a 457 visa 1st until I can get a full Licence.
 18. I know this is really cheeky but does any one have a PDF copy of the AS/NZ3000 2007 Australian wiring regulations they could email me please. I would be very greatful. stewartbeades@hotmail.com Thanks Stewart
 19.

Hi Taz

We had problems trying to get an ENS over issues over Electrical Licences as you need to have a full electrical licence to apply for a ENS. We was told that we would need to apply for a 457 visa until I gained a full electrical licence.

We have currently got a case worker for the 457 and been granted the sponsorship part so far and just waiting for the rest to be approved. We are hoping we should here some time next week. (fingers crossed)

I think if all goes well with the changes to the skill migration list on Monday we will wait for our 176 over there so we have the freedom to change jobs if I need to.

Ill keep you updated on how we get on.

Thanks for asking

 20. I am also moving to Queensland but had to find a sponcor as I did not want to wait till 2012. I was applying for ENS visa but later found out after paying for the employer nomination you can only apply for this visa if you have a full licence. I am now applying for 457 long stay visa then waiting for my 176 to got through over there. I have done my VETASSESS back in april and found a training company in Brisbane where you can complete the gap training in 3 to 4 months (thanks to Steveo) so this is the route Im going to follow. The biggest problem is trying to find some one to sponsor you. Not easy !!!! Here is the link of the training company HomePage Hope this helps Stewart
 21. You must complete the Vetassess if you live in the following countries United Kingdom, India, Sri Lanka, South Africa and the Philippines for these nominated trades for the purpose of a visa. If you wanted to do the TRA route you can do this as a extra. Stupid, expensive and long winded rules !!!!!
 22. Cheers Steve, thanks for the info. Ill look into that, Im planning on moving over in October so give me plenty of time to sort things out. Im gonna try and get a placement before I leave the UK if not I think I may go down the peer route. Regards Stewart
 23. Well im gonna try and leave my options open and go where ever I can get work in Qld. Not sure wether to go down the peer route to improve my chances but just wanted to see what sort of feed back from people that have done the gap training route.
