Hiya Martin,

We're arriving on the 21st Dec so not too far off and are going to be total billy-no-mates, booked a motel in Redcliffe for a couple of weeks so not too far away from you..... About us:

Me - loud.

My husband - quiet. (basically can't get a word in with me around so has given up trying)

Age - early (read mid!) 30's

Likes - drinking, eating, going to beach, holidays, rugby, shopping, watching telly (we are quite simple creatures)

Dislikes - hangovers, constant battle with imminent middle-aged spread

If you'll have us we'll be your mates, you guys sound fab!

x

We'de be up for a few beers ! What business are you setting up in Beerwah ? Are we getting something new and exciting ? Please tell me it is an Indian restaurant !

G'Day Guy's,

Have you found a good Indian yet?? My husband said that he won't go out to an Indian again unless it's recommended by a Brit.... :jiggy:

Guys ,I think it is fantastic that you all gather at the 'meets' I was telling my cousin about this (she is moving to OZ in about 6 months with OH, hence the reason for my sudden interest) My one concern with this and we spoke about it recently and she agrees, does this not create a terrible us (Brits) and them (OZ) situation. Do you not invite locals along? My cus said she would be inclined to want to mix with the locals as much as other Brits and better still both at the same time. A thought that would concern me if I was moving there and didn't know any better! Anyway it is not me who is leaving for OZ, but I am close to cus and want the best for her! Perhaps this is not the case at all and all the better. I just wondered having come across the topic!

OK,STILL IN PROTECTIVE MODE

Is my cuz going to make friends with other Ausies or will she have to rely on other Brits and feel ignored by the natives! That would make me feel like an intruder! no matter how many Brit people I knew! It is only 6 months away and I can't bare her going over and being lonely, although I don't say that to her. Surely you guys mix with Ausies too,or is this a hornets nest subject,so to speak!! The interest will die down when I get used to the idea and she settles in,but at the moment its the way it is.

Hi Jana,

I moved here in sept last year and although i'm on this website, I haven't actually managed to get to any of the meets held in my area. I started working almost as soon as i got here and have made friends at work instead- with aussies. So don't worry, it is possible!

Thanks Emma,

That is comforting to know. Cuz is actually quite a deep thinker and although the meets sound great ,she prefers more one to one 'closer' style friends who you really get to know well over time ,rather than surface type mates! The type who would rather have 1 or 2 really close friends, than 10 buddies!! You have to start somewhere though! Here she has 2 close friends who are more like sisters, who also say they will visit soon. Anyway time will tell. I am probably getting more wound up reading all this than if I didn't know it was here.

Hi Guys,

I've been on the gold coast since June and Linda, the missus, arrived November, we have the same problem, I know that we are not exactly neighbors but it would be good to meet some other lonely poms if you find yourself heading this way.

Hi Guy's, I hope I am not replying to a really old message and you now are in no need of friends at all???

We are the Spencer's I'm Sam (42), my hubby's Steve (41) and we have Rachel 16 and Matt 15. We have been in Oz for 16 months now and live on Bribie Island, we are very settled here. We recently had some friends who moved over and so seem to be reliving the whole experience of the emotional rollercoaster that is emigration through them.

We are always happy to meet new friends so if you fancy getting together let me know.

Sam
