90 days out for every year during the four years

Hi everyone

Forgive me if this have been answered before.

I moved to Australia 1 May 2016 and was planning on applying for citizenship 1 May next year.

The last couple of years I have been traveling overseas a lot but this year, my forth year here Im under the 90 days outside of Oz.

While I was traveling I was working online for Australian companies and paying tax here.

I did the resident calculator yesterday and it says I can apply until February 2022, which doesn't make sense to me at all.

Do you know if I can call someone who can tell me the precise date? Or look somewhere else?

I was not traveling that much but more than six months last year.

Many thanks.

The rules state no more than a year IN TOTAL outside Australia in the last 5 years.  Sounds like you have spent more than a year out.

You would need to give all the dates for someone to advise you, but immigration will have the exact info of your movements.  The other issue that can complicate matters is your visa status during this time.

Many thanks for the info. I got five RRV early this year. I was traveling due to my Australian citizen partners work so am hoping I can add that as reason when his company give us a letter stating that.

Im on a skilled migration PR visa.

I don't think they make allowances, the rule is the rule

Sometimes, in some circumstances this can re set the clock.  Paul Hand, the agent who replied above to correct my mistake would be able to advise properly on your particular circumstances if you wanted to engage him.

I do believe they do. I met a Qantas pilot who does long haul routes. He recently became a citizen and he is out of the country a lot.

There are some Ministerial discretions available ... including being a pilot ... but they are fairly tightly worded and narrow in scope.
