PammyA
Hi there, havung just returned from our second trip to Oz we have finally made a decision to emigrate, hopefully next year after our daughters GCSEs. I am looking at paying an emigration specialist as we are applying for the 189 skilled visa. Does anybody recommend any specialist law firms? Currently in early stages with one firm who seem very thorough and professional, whos fee is just under £2000 ontop of visa price. Good? Bad? Any recommendations gratefully received. Thank you

Peach
Hi, congratulations on your decision to move to Australia. You should be aware that the folk that deal with the preparation of visa applications for financial migrants are rarely lawyers. The process is largely administrative and the persons deemed qualified to assist are known as MARA registered agents. People seem to get the best results when they choose an agent that is directly MARA registered (rather than being indirectly associated with one). The list of MARA agents is here: https://www.mara.gov.au/ You should consider your timings as GCSEs aren't a recognised qualification, but might help with High School (depending on the school).... Good luck....
VERYSTORMY
I agree with both of the above.

I have spoken with a MARA regiestered agent this evening and we have more than adequate points for the 189 visa and have decided to go with Them to get the ball rolling. Thanks again! GCSE may not be a recognised qualification in the mainstream in Oz, but if the child wanted to study in the UK (or work there in future) they would be incredibly useful to have

Don't know what career (anzsco code) you are applying with and which state you want to live in but if you already know a state it seems that the 190 is a much quicker route unless by adequate points you mean 80+ 75 points and a decent wait seems to be the norm at the moment for the 189, and superior English is not a given even if you are a native speaker
PammyA
Hey I am a registered midwife and I am the prime applicant for the visa. I have the points but still need to do the english assessment due to my job. Looking at next year anyway due to other commitments so the 1 year wait isnt an issue. What are the perks of the 190? Thank you

Thank you If you can easily get the 189 then there are no perks of the 190. However if you are on the low side of points then 190 (if selected by the state) gives you bonus points. Also the state's can "cherry pick" you out of the waiting queue if they want someone of your skills (essentially making the points tally irrelevant so long as you have the minimum amount) The flip side is you have to live there for 2 years - but if you were going there anyway that's a non-issue

Thank you I would get the ball rolling with the skills assessment with ANMAC. Be mindful for registration with AHPRA, you have to present in person within 3 months to complete the registration process after they have given you registration in principle. As a recruiter - a person who already has a valid visa is viewed more positively in the recruitment process if they are looking for someone to start quickly.
