At immigration, they escorted me to a private room and asked or shall i say forced me to hand over my mobile phone. I havent seen it since. There is a TV show here 'Border Security' and it shows all the different things that happen when people arrive at Australian airports. There are quite a few instances where immigration suspect people on tourist visas are actually working. They are escorted to an office and their phones are taken from them and checked for messages etc. A fair percentage of them are sent on the next plane back to their country of origin and receive a 3 year ban. They show the Australian programme nothing to declare in the UK and yes, anyone suspected of using a tourist visa for any other purpose gets refused entry. The UK border force does the same. We all know this and so did the lady who has been caught. Let it be a lesson for all those who think they can ignore the conditions of their visa. rammygirl
To the OP. Learn and move forward. We all make mistakes. Hopefully you can rescue the situation. I do not judge you at all but you do need to get some professional advice. Dont let it get to you. Only you know the details and do not feel the need to share. I hope it all works out and you can make a real go of it.
Raul Senise
A few points which may help the numerous posts on this thread: Immigration wasn't "tipped off", they simply look closely at people making multiple entries on Visitor visas, especially with very short break to NZ or similar in between. I have posted numerous warning in this regard (which I am often challenged on); PIC 4020 will not apply in this situation as this regards bogus documents or information that are false or misleading. PIC 4020 is very serious and new remains an issue for 10 years; Visa cancellation such as this will usually results in 3 year ban on re entry for temporary visas; A partner application may be possible from Offshore, depending on the circumstances and details of the cancellation.

Unless she or her partner had lots of money, she was probably getting paid too as how else has she lived there for 6 months and travelled oversees twice and let's be honest, how many people work for free? Either way she tried her luck as so many and she has been caught. She must be feeling very worried right now as it's all gone wrong but she can't honestly be feeling surprised, just gutted she got caught. The only thing she's said that was a breach of her visa was "working" on the neighbour's farm. There's nothing to suggest she wasn't a genuine visitor or that she was being paid. Unfortunately people often think that agreeing to help for free is fine, but if it's something that would be paid work for an Australian then it is considered working in the eyes of DIBP. That's why even visiting grandparents who take care of the grandchildren 8 hours a day while the parents are working could fall on the wrong side of the line.
