Hi! I'm hoping you guys on here can help me as a worried parent. My daughter has recently arrived in Australia on a whv for 12 months. We knew six months ago she was planning it but gave us very little information, I won't bore you all with the details but basically she has gone with her boyfriend who has lived there before and has emigrated on his parents skilled visa.I've looked at processing times for the visa and requirements but am still confused! Can anybody help me on how long it takes to process and the financial requirements because from everything I have read she doesn't have the finances and I'm worried that I was only given a few days notice before she left the UK. Thanks

Your post doesn't make sense. Is your daughter applying for permanent residency? You talk about processing times for the visa but which visa do you mean?

My reading of it was:

Her: Working Holiday Visa

Her boyfriend: looks like on her parents 457

Still doesn't make sense. If the daughter is already in Australia then why the concern about WHV "how long it takes to process and the financial requirements"?

I think the concern is the daughter is applying for a new visa on the back of the boyfriend's one eg some kind of de facto visa.

Need more info.

Sorry if its not very clear but we have not been given a lot of information from her.As far as I know her boyfriend has lived in Australia before as a dependant, his mumshe is on a skilled visa.He returned with his family on that visa. My daughter as far as I know has a 12moth working holiday visa but I don't know how much she needs to support herself till she finds work.

As far as finances are concerned, if she is already here, then it's up to her and her boyfriend I would have thought to finance themselves i.e work.

Thank you Marisa that's what I needed to know. It's a complicated situation and though she's an adult (young) as parents its been very worrying for us, we know she didn't have the finances so we have to assume he is funding it.She was only with him a çouple of months before making this decision and it all seems to have been done on a wing and a prayer, I'm only worried .

Dont worry. She is in a developed country with loads of young people doing a similar thing. I am sure she will be fine.

The he world is not a bad a place as people seem and you can as a backpacker get by on very little.

It sounds like the boyfriend is already a permanent resident of Australia after being granted this with his family.

The WHV requires $5000 but this is not checked when the visa is applied for and limited circumstances when entering Australia. She will have work rights to work for any employer for a maximum of 6 months.

If the idea for them is to live permantely in Australia, it would likely be the Partner visa that they would be looking at which would require evidence of them being in a defacto relationship for 12 months before applying. The cost to apply for this visa is very expensive, and processing over 12 months. This visa would only be a temporary visa for the first 2 years (starts when apply), and only be granted the Pernament visa if the relationship is still on going at that point, if the relationship broke down any point before that then she would have to leave Australia.

From on what you have posted if she is planning on remaining in Australia this would be the process they would probably be following.

This is the problem we have

been kept so much in the dark about things! I know that his family were out there four years ago on his mums skilled visa and he was named as a dependant, all I know is that his family went back to Australia last year and he had up till April this year to return. So I don't know if that means he's a resident

It probably means their initial Permanent residency was due to expire by April. If you are living in Australia when it expires, you can stay. If you are not, you have to re-apply.

Yes it does.

So does that mean when my daughters visa expires she can apply for a different one because he is a resident?

No.

Her visa is not related to his.

She may be able to apply for a visa if she can prove they have been living together as if they were husband and wife for over a year.
