Indianinoz
Greetings, I'm not sure if this is the right forum(feel free to transfer if you find any other suitable one). I'd like to know which regions(and states) in Australia are suitable for growing rice and where rice is actually grown successfully. I have found that rice grows well in the Southern NSW region of Murrumbidgee and Murray Valley. Where else? Also, if you're yourself a rice farmer, would be great to get in touch. Please PM in such a case.
Parley
Sunrice is the largest and only brand I know that is grown in Australia. I think it is all grown around the Riverina area of NSW.
Eera
There's been some serious investment in North QLD recently, with a rice milling facility in the Burdiken area and trials going on in the region between Mackay and Townsville. Google the Rice Growers Association and they'll help you out.
Indianinoz
Thanks! So in which states is rice not grown at all? Tasmania? Any other state? What about ACT?
JockinTas
Isn't a lot of water required to grow rice successfully? I don't think rice is grown in Tasmania - too cool for that.

Skani
Thanks! So in which states is rice not grown at all? Tasmania? Any other state? What about ACT? Practically all the rice grown in Australia is in the southern area of NSW along the Murrumbidgee and Murray Rivers - see the map here: http://www.rga.org.au/the-rice-industry/rice-community.aspx There were some trial crops in north western Western Australia (Ord River area) but I'm not sure they have been very successful. Also obviously some trials in North Queensland - as mentioned above. None in any of the other states.

Been going back for holidays over the last 7 years and farmers are still growing rice. The farms area has been extended out along the Weaber Plains, north and east of Kununurra and I believe some farms are 'earmarked' for rice. Cheers, Bobj.
