    AUSTRALIAN CITIZENSHIP TIMELINES 2018-2019

Oh OK. Maybe this is true for big cities. Where I'm based in Mackay, government staff are still working from office. Centrelink is working.

Why is face to face interview impracticable now? I understand they need a 1.5 metre distance. Many centrelink offies have partition put in where this distance is met and still the officer can speak with the person. I can understand cancellation of ceremonies where over 100 people usually gather. But interview/test, you just need 2 people at distance of 1.5 metres from each other which is very easy to achieve.

Does this mean that they will until COVID restrictions cease to resume test/interview? If so, then we are at least 4-6 months away. I actually heard/read somewhere that they're trying to get a method that works even in the COVID restrictions which sounded encouraging. Now I'm confused.

Well there some like me who applied in December 19 and haven't had a test invite. Keep fingers crossed. Approval should be right around the corner for you.

    AUSTRALIAN CITIZENSHIP TIMELINES 2018-2019

We have had a son born recently. As you can see from my signature, me and my wife applied for citizenship in December 2019. So far there hasn't been any update. We wish to fly to your home country once the COVID issue is sorted out, hopefully by September. Just checking about what are the norms for travel to home country once you have applied citizenship. We usually go for 1 month each year. But this time, with the bub, it will be a longer visit. Say 2-3 months. Then early next year, we may have to travel again as we have a close wedding. This may be another 2 months. My wife is on her maternity leave, so it makes travel easy for us as I can work on the computer. Hence, the longer visits. 2 travels of 2-3 months each in a space of 9-12 months, is it too much? Of course, these are just trips with our permanent residence and jobs/work being based in Australia. Could this affect citizenship by any chance? I understand for the test/interview we usually need to be in Australia. Also, they don't approve the application while we are overseas. And for citizenship ceremony(even for the online one), we need to be in Australia.

We have had a new born recently too. We have applied for Birth certificate. Once I get it, can I use my immi account to apply for Evidence of Citizenship also? I applied my and my wife's citizenship by conferral through this account also.

I understand they're not holding interview tests until about 20th August 2020 But are they issuing invites for tests? Or is it all put on all hold??

Thanks for getting back to the forum. The result seems discouraging unfortunately. It seems now wait is the only answer for you. If your application crosses 12 months or 15 months, you may try contacting a MP in Canberra who deals with delayed applications. I don't know the definition of delayed. It could well be 21 months from application from approval.

Are you waiting for the test invitation or ceremony invitation? I remember you mentioning you got approved in Sept 2019?

Is it OK to call up the immigration department periodically(say every 2-3 months) to ensure you haven't missed any appointment/email and ask status of application? Has anyone else done that?

That is a long wait. Which council/region are you from? Have you submitted FOI or a request to any MP to check/expedite?

Thanks for the update GUS. Do you mean they have given you the reason as to why your application is delayed so far? Or maybe you now have the status of different stages like Biometrics, Character Assessment, Health Asssessment etc.? Or do you mean you've just received the acknowledgement and the FOI hasn't arrived yet? Wish you luck as I know its been more than 10 months for you now.

My Council is not as common as the metro cities. Is there a way to find out approx wait times for tests in my council(Mackay Regional council)? I remember someone posting a link for all councils showing the estimated wait times. I do not remember if it was test/interview or ceremony to total wait.

Thanks, just to confirm you got an email and a message in your immi account but no letter in your mailbox and no call/SMS, correct? Do you mind posting the 'From' email address and the subject of the email and the subject of the message in your immi account? Thanks! I just checked and Townsville seems to be DHS..please correct me if I'm wrong.

    AUSTRALIAN CITIZENSHIP TIMELINES 2018-2019

Hi August 2016, Firstly, congrats on getting the test invite so soon(very impressive timeline so far). I assume you passed the test and approval should be around the corner. May I ask you how you were invited for the test? Did you receive a letter in your postbox or an email or a message in your immi account or a call/sms or a combination of these? It would be very helpful if you can guide me in this regard. I'm from Mackay QLD and I'm still clueless as to where to search for the invite. I haven't got one so far. Also, is Townsville a DOHA or DHS office?

Hi Mamir(and others), I request you to please update your timeline in your signature. This will help in others to guide you. Though I'm not from Victoria, I also applied in Dec 2019 and so far no luck.

Just a crazy question - can citizenship be delayed or denied for reasons of claiming any kind of allowances like Newstart allowance/Paid parental leave etc. based on the reason that you're a burden to the Government funds? Say if someone is unemployed and claming new start allowance etc.? Also, can citizenship be delayed or denied for reasons such a protesting against the government for promotion of vaccines in a polite manner?

I heard the same from a lady that I spoke with. But there are people who have got invitation but not message at their immi account. This is where it gets scary.

Did you call up and check if you haven't been sent any invite? Chances are you may have missed an email. Not all people are informed through immi account.

I'd be interested as to when you receive the FOI reply and what is in the reply. There is also an MP in Canberra which deals with delays in citizenship. Please search about 2 months back in this thread. I think his name is MP Greg Hunt but not sure. You can contact him instead of contacting your local MP.
