Me and my partner are in the early stages of applying for our live/work visa. But we are too impatient to wait what could be another 8 months. Is there anyway of getting there sooner, maybe an extended holiday or can you do something to speed up your application? We understand it's not going to be cheap just need some suggestions!

thanks in advance! A x

What do you mean a live/work visa?

You can come over on a tourist visa anytime, but you can;t speed up the processing of any visa class.

Sorry! Like I said new to this and my partner has dealt with a lot of it. It's the visa which states you can work/live in oz for up to 4 years? But obviously it takes time to get that through. Is there anyway we can travel and stay in oz until that all goes through, or is it literally just waiting .... Thanks sorry I'm not fully up to speed with everything! It's all new!

Still don't know what you mean, to get meaningful comments it is best if you know what visa you are going for. The four years makes me think that you are considering a 457 employer sponsored visa? Does that sound right? Has one of you got a job and going through the process with a sponsor?

I thought that too but why would a 457 take 8 months I wonder.

Yes, thats the one! sorry I really am useless. We was advised by a recruitment agency that have found a sponser it could take up to 8 months? could it be sooner then? :D

What other visas could we travel on until its through?

Thanks!!!

So did the interviews go well? Are you happy with the package on offer? You need to take this one step at a time, work on getting the 457 before worrying about can you get visa to get there quicker.

I also agree with an earlier post, even if you did have to wait eight months, relish it, make the most of it, visit people and visit places. Don't wish it away, we moved with less than a month of planning, I would have loved to have had more time.

More likely that they haven't won the contract yet but are manning up just incase. Why would an employer wait 8 months to sponsor doesn't take that long! Who is the recruitment company? There have been s few posters on here over the years strung along by some of these recruitment people

hmmm I did think the same... I dont know if they meant it could take that long to find a sponsor or what. My partner is in the construction industry and has lots of useful nvqs and licences so I didnt really expect it to take that long. Im ideally hoping we can be there within 3-4months we have been waiting to do this for a long time but have just luckily come into some funds so theres nothing holding us back now. :D

Have you got an actual offer from a company? No offence to recruitment agents but in my experience they sometimes think they can get more than they actually can for their candidates (case and point, we were travelling in Thailand before heading to New Zealand, and my partner - a Civil Engineer - got told by an agent that he had interviews lined up for him. When we got there, suddenly these interviews were non-existent, and in reality he only had a meeting with the agent, whom we then didn't hear from again).

Make sure you have an actual offer, with a package that is viable (i.e. weigh up living costs). I have come across plenty of people - in the construction industry and otherwise - that have found it hard enough to get sponsored whilst actually being employed over here by a company, so I'm not quite sure what you've been offered that someone would say that they'd sponsor you from back home.

If your partner is on the skilled migration list you may be better looking at a 189 independent skilled visa, which is a permanent visa - i.e. you wouldn't have to rely on a company.

Good luck with everything - I think I'm from your neck of the woods (Audenshaw)

Also, are you both under the age of 30? If so then you can come here on working holiday visas for the year (2 years if you do 88 days of regional work during your first year). That'll allow you to get out here sooner if you really want to...

the recruitment agency is dreamjobsabroad.com

Holy moly....there's nothing in that website which gives me any confidence that they have any expertise.

I'd at least expect a competent level of written English.

If I were you I'd move right along and find yourself a competent migration agent - and a MARA registered one while you're at it.

PS: I hope you haven't paid them any money!

I agree! I hate to be a pessimist but it doesn't seem all that legit. Be careful - there are tons of scams out there that promise visas and don't deliver anything except an empty bank account. As above - make sure they're registered!

This is going back to 2010 when I applied for my 457, but I was advised that immigration wouldn't grant the visa until a month before my work start date. So the sooner the proposed start the sooner you'll get the visa. That's not to say if you put your start date as next week it will be a priority, there are obviously processing times, but for me personally that's what I found delayed my visa grant. The employer needs to put the proposed start date on your offer of employment letter/contract, and it doesn't mean you actually have to start on that day.

But I agree with the others, 8 months isn't long, enjoy the summer, have one last cold Christmas, save some money and enjoy friends and family, Australia isn't going anywhere! 8 months will fly and that gives you time to get all your affairs in order!

Not sure if its already been mentioned, but are yu aware that if you do hget a 457 it is only a temporary visa? 4 years tops, then you need another 457 or a different visa, or come home. Its not a permanent move.

So the first sentence in the Australia section of dreamjobsabroad.com says "the first step is to find a job in Australia". That sentence alone is enough to tell me they have not got clue, because for most people finding the job comes after getting the visa. There are not that many companies willing to sponsor or that many occupations that have such shortages that sponsorship is necessary, especially in times of rising unemployment in Australia such as we have at the moment.

I think they are selling you dreams. Find a registered migration agent, one that specialises in migration and visas, not finding jobs and see if you qualify for skilled migration.

That website looks about as dodgy as can be.

Isn't it shocking -even the first page is off putting ' Hard work and labour is looked up to in Australia and is maintained in all levels at work. They believe in celebrating labour and have Labours Day to celebrate the same as per the regions.' - What the heck does THAT mean?!!:err:

To be fair they do promise health care and leaves.

Who doesn't love leaves??????

I think they're trying to sell the dream to people who don't have what, in the UK at least, are basic work rights (health and safety, a salary, annual leave, training etc)

Try this website xx

http://www.border.gov.au/Trav/Work/Skil

I don't mean that to look patronising, it's full of useful and valid information. I have been trawling it for years (well, it never used to be skill select but you know what I mean)
