Quoll
Getting into UK will be fine - it depends on whether you will be stopping over in an Asian country en route - they're usually the ones that require 6 months longevity on the passport. Sorry to hear about your need to attend the funeral!
Tinaandco
The flight company states that there should be 6 months on her passport and that's why they told me to ask the British consulate if it will be ok cos we are only getting a oner way ticket and we are British citizens. Tinaandco
Hi Quoll i hope you are right, we only have a short stop at Dubai on the way to London x
VERYSTORMY
You will be fine, as long as you don't intend to leave the airport.
Tinaandco
Thanks for replies but my main problem is that the flight company won't book our flights until iv had confirmation from British consulate which isn't open till 2nd jan !!! Tinaandco
So have any of you actually experienced travelling with less than 6 months on passport ?
VERYSTORMY
Yes. We went through Dubai with only 1 month left on my wife's. just let the airline know and that you are returning home. Emergency passports for for example are often only valid for a couple of months. I went to work in Tanzania, via Dubai for a month and back with a temp passport valid for 6 months. Tinaandco
Thanks so much Verystormy I'm so glad to hear that, do I have to contact the airline myself or can the travel agent do it for me ? Also the frustrating bit is that the travel agent won't book or holds our flights till iv had confirmation from the British consulate !!!
Que Sera Sera
Why can't you book your own flights online?
Quinkla
Also the frustrating bit is that the travel agent won't book or holds our flights till iv had confirmation from the British consulate !!! Try another travel agent. You don't even need a current passport to enter the UK if you can prove you are a UK citizen, and if you have no stop-overs then you don't need a passport for airside connections. Helz980
If you are really concerned the British consulate will give you a 1 year extension on your passport for no charge. Just give them a call when they open on the 2nd just to alleviate your fears xx

Quoll
Hi Quolli hope you are right, we only have a short stop at Dubai on the way to London x By short stop do you mean change planes? If so you'll be fine. The regs do say that if you require a visa (which you don't for stops in transit) then 6 months validity.
