So if I only go back to uk for 10 days I should be ok then ?!

I have got very good reasons that I went back and they are because my kids are there, our youngest is 18 didn't settle here and doing an apprenticeship there but I just hope she will come here in few yrs time so that's why I still want to get citizenship cos my husband andd oldest son are here and will be applying in June next year. I rang Oz immigration and he said he can't tell me how long it will add on if I go over by a couple of weeks he said the calculator won't help until Iv done it !?! How silly is that !!!

Ok so I was out for 3 weeks at the end of 2013 beginning of 2014 and 10 weeks from July to sept 2013 then Iv been out for 9 months this year from Jan till sept and I'm back now but need to go back for 4 weeks over the Xmas period and then we should have been eligible to apply for citizenship next June cos we first arrived here in June 2012 but going back this time will take me about 2 to 3 weeks over the 12 months so do they just add that on or do I have to start the 4 year period again ? thanks in advance xx

But how long after will I have to wait cos I will only be over by roughly 2 weeks ?

But what if I don't apply till I can be here 9 months leading up to it andd would have just been out of Oz a couple of weeks over the 12 months ?

Hi if I am out of Oz for a couple of weeks over the 12 months that's allowed before applying for citizenship will they just put it back by a couple of weeks ?

Hi so we've all had our visa since Jan 2012 activated and moved here June 2012, our middle child went back after a year to go to uni in uk, our youngest went just after that cos she never settled here so she lived with family and finished school in uk then she came back here for a year but she's now been back in uk since Jan this year and she's doing an apprenticeship andd wants to stay there, although happy to try to get Rrv when hers runs out in Jan 2017 incase she wants to come back here. Iv been out of Oz I added up for 49 weeks in total ( 9 months of which was this year) but if I stay here now I think I can still apply for citizenship next July but my problem is our youngest is only 18 so I feel I should be with her which means I will be in uk for at least next 2 to 3 years so do you think I will get a 5 year Rrv if I apply in Jan 2017 ? My other dilemma is that we brought our dogs over here with us so I think I would take them back there but wouldn't wana put them through all this again ! It's awful being torn between children cos my oldest is here and staying for the time beings do if my youngest wasn't just 18 I would stay here but I feel she needs her mum still andd we miss each other so much x thanks for reading Tina

Thanks everyone for ur advise ! can I phone the citizenship helpline and give them her passport number to find out from them what date she would be able to apply ? I mean is there a uk help line ?

Hi sorry for the lack off info, she is 17 at the moment and she has been out of oz 3 times in total, the first time was for 5 months the 3 weeks for Xmas then from this January till now and we wanted to go back in August but that means she will have been out of oz for a total of 14 months. we have had PR the whole time tho since we first went to oz in June 2012. thanks xx

Hi, if I get australian citizenship would I be able to help my children to into oz if they are over 18 ? They have hard permanent resident visas but if they run out would I be able to help em if I am a citizen ? thanks

Hi just to let you know, I booked the flights online to avoid a price increase ! Then went to British consulate and got my daughter a years extension on her passport which was very easy we were in and out of ere in 5 minutes and no cost !! thanks to those who commented xx

Thanks so much Verystormy I'm so glad to hear that, do I have to contact the airline myself or can the travel agent do it for me ? Also the frustrating bit is that the travel agent won't book or holds our flights till iv had confirmation from the British consulate !!!

So have any of you actually experienced travelling with less than 6 months on passport ?

3 months left on passport !! Hi can anyone tell me if we will be ok because the British consulate is shut till 2nd Jan !! my daughters passport runs out on 3 rd March 2015 and we need to fly back to uk by 12 th Jan for a funeral! we are only booking one way flights to uk as we are moving back and we are British citizens so will they allow her to fly ?? thanks in advance Tina

The flight company states that there should be 6 months on her passport and that's why they told me to ask the British consulate if it will be ok cos we are only getting a oner way ticket and we are British citizens.
