Agent or go it alone????

Oscartime

Recommended Posts

Who else has hired an agent to get things moving for them? Successful?

What made you decide to hire an agent rather than do it yourself?

Any recommendations for the most reliable and the easiest to understand!?

Am about to go down the agent route . Is there anything special i need to do before getting in touch with one?

There seems to be a lot of them out there, i am in equestrian. Should i try to go for a specialist in that area or doesn't it matter?

I used an agent because of time constraints, tbh if i had more time i might well have done it myself, plenty on here do,there's loads of good sorts on here who help and advise on the process and how to go about things, please bare in mind, you "still" have to do loads of form filling, chasing references/statements etc yourself, despite using an agent.

Re agents tho,i used CONCEPT AUSTRALIA,manchester and Kent i think, staged payments, and an excellent company, got me and a few cpl's i know their PR,think the norm is approx £1700 agent fees, plus meds etc etc, good luck anyway

I have one. Just because I feel better with one. Paperwork is not a strength of mine. Plus I have phoned a few times with boggles and questions and I have been looked after to this point.

lots go it alone with no problem. I wasn't so confident. :-)

I used an agent but only because time wasn't on my side and I couldn't afford to make any mistakes. If I knew then what I know now I would have done it myself. The agent I used was John Adams from immigration2oz and I have to say they have been brill.

I don't think it matters what your occupation is. An immigration agent should be able to advise any person who wants a visa. However, you should choose an agent that is MARA registered. There are a couple that are recommended on here if you read through past posts.

Its not so hard to do yourself once you get the hang of it. Ask questions on here. There are lots of people who have been through the process who can advise including an agent.

Hope this helps and good luck.

Thank you, wow speedy responses.

Time is a massive issue, i am so busy with work right now and then when i start to do anything I'm tired and miss things and make mistakes, which is frustrating!

Think for the reassurance i'll probably go with one. Are they specialists in their own industry, or is an agent an agent whatever?

We used Concept in Manchester too, and you can see from our signature that we were successful! I can't praise those guys enough, and knowing what we know about the process now, I'd still go back and use them rather than go it alone. It's hard enough to manage all the paper work and assessments etc as it is without having to go it alone. The reassurance and experience they offered us was priceless, and I don't think their fee of £1500 comes close to the true value of everything they do for you.

Good luck with whatever you choose to do!

Many use agents and many do not. I was a lot happier once I sacked my agent, but that was because they were rubbish. Gone bust now. You are not going to find an agent specialising in equestrian, there wouldn't be neigh to make a living on. Just pick a MARA registered one.

Steve and Martin are both sound aren't they - really down to earth and straight talking with everything. Where are you up to with everything? Any closer to getting out there??

Nope, old PR ran out in july gone, steve just handled my rrv app,got till august next yr to sell the hse and go,but my ex partner has landed me with all kinds of legal and financial complications over the house, thru no fault of mine btw,but anyway, theres a lot of obstacles to overcome,i live in hope rather than any certainty tbh

Oh balls, sorry to hear that. Gives you a bit more time to get the house (and her) sorted I guess. Women hey; we're all a pain in the arse aren't we !

We did it ourselves. TBH it only took us 9mths from start to finish. We knew our application would be straight forward so decided to go it alone. We only had one hiccup and that was when OH sent off the police checks too soon which didn't leave us much time to validate. It was quite time consuming but it saved us a few quid!

We used Visa Bureau in Fulham. They were great. We had a simple application but were really busy and I wanted someone else to manage the process. Also it was great having an expert only a phone call away rather than having to trawl the Internet for an answer that maybe not correct.

I second the use of visa bureau in Fulham. I had great service they answered all my annoying questions really promptly and were confident in the decisions that would be made by diac which gave me a sense of peace. They only take on cases they think will be successful though. Give them a call no strings attached.

Your house will probably sell in the new year pabs. Property prices starting to rise and the government help to buy scheme should help. My house has been on the market for 5 weeks and its driving me mad. The estate agent has got the keys in case anyone wants to just drop in and view it. Such a pain in the bum. Gotta Hoover, and mop the floors every morning and run round like a woman possessed grabbing our undies and stuff off the radiators before I leave for work at 7.30. I then drive to Speke to drop jonny off with his dad for school, then drive to Warrington to start work at 9. Then by the time I get home it's about 6pm. Start the tea, iron uniforms, make packed lunches, wash dishes, do homework with jonny and maybe squeeze in a clothes wash. Then I stop work and go to bed to get up at 5.30!!!! to do it all again. This has been my routine for the past 5 weeks and I swear its gonna be the death of me lol.

Hope you are able to overcome your obstacles.

Guest Southern Cross Personnel

We are an international recruitment company here in Oz and have partnered with Live the Dream Australia who are an excellent relocation company who will be able to help you with all aspects of your seachange. Tony Mooney is the man to speak to and I am sure you will find them very helpful. Hope that helps.

We didn't use agent, it was so straight forward and easy. Not one single problem but lots and lots of checking and re-checking and re-checking!!!!!! If I was to do it again I would go it along again. I am glad the money was in our pockets and not an agents!!!!!! Everybody is different and depending on circumstances it may be better to use an agent. We were very straight forward with no complications. Good luck!

Meant to say, thats a long day you have!!!!!

Ha ha. When I go to bed a fall into a coma. When everyone in work is talking about he weather through the night I haven't got a clue what they're talking about!! I'm soooo tired. I work a 12 hour shift every other sat too. When I go out for our Xmas night I'll probably only have a coupe of drinks and get sent home in a taxi drunk lol.
