young couple (no qualifying experience yet) on WHV, possible to get sponsor in anything??

Hello, my boyfriend and I (26 and 22 years old) just got to Oz from the USA on working holiday visa. We love it so much and don't want to have to go back home but unfortunately we don't have any qualifying work experience as we just graduated university (bachelors) in August. Also, our majors don't seem to be very helpful in qualifying us for in demand jobs (he studied Political Science and I studied Philosophy with a minor in urban and regional studies). I did work all through school part time and have had a real estate license in California for 4 years and worked as a property manager assistant and real estate assistant. I also have an associates degree in accounting but no relevant work exp besides basic property accounting.

Anyway... we are really hoping one of us can find a job sponsor and are willing to do any necessary course and prep work. I'd prefer to work in property since i've already got some experience and understanding but am basically willing to do any sort of labor or training that could secure sponsorship. Boyfriend is interested in construction management but also willing to do anything.

Any feedback is very much appreciated. As we are from the USA we can't get a 2nd year WHV and are trying to get all this sorted out ASAP so we can start with any training courses we might need.

We can barely sleep at night we are so worried about if any of this will work out or if we will just have to go back home to get work experience and then try to come back! Thank you PomInOz members!!

Hi cc2121,

You're right about the qualification majors, they don't really lean towards to a particular in demand occupation and are general topics rather than being a set specialisation.

The best thing you can do is look on the CSOL list for occupations that interest you, then look at the skill level/duties and licensing requirements of those occupations on ANZSCO. Since you both have a bachelor degree you could realistically meet the 457 visa skill level of a number of occupations for which the degree may be considered relevant. Then search for job vacancies in those occupations, explain that you currently have the right to work on your Work and Holiday Visa and that you'd be interested in 457 visa sponsorship to continue working beyond the expiry of your current visa.

I'm afraid it's highly unlikely that you will get to stay.

As has been said, look through the sol and csol for any jobs that may fit your qualifications and then google the code for that job and see what the minimum requirements are.

Do you have any actual qualifications for real estate work? If not, forget that one. Same with accountancy.

Most people on whv end up having to leave. It took me 8 years to get back.

I think you could explore accountancy more. It is unusual in that no experience is required for skills assessment, so you might as well see if your degree would be sufficient to get you through.

Very unlikely that the associate degree would meet the skill assessment requirements: http://www.cpaaustralia.com.au/become-a-cpa/migration-assessment/requirements-and-criteria
