  1. Hello, my boyfriend and I (26 and 22 years old) just got to Oz from the USA on working holiday visa. We love it so much and don't want to have to go back home but unfortunately we don't have any qualifying work experience as we just graduated university (bachelors) in August. Also, our majors don't seem to be very helpful in qualifying us for in demand jobs (he studied Political Science and I studied Philosophy with a minor in urban and regional studies). I did work all through school part time and have had a real estate license in California for 4 years and worked as a property manager assistant and real estate assistant. I also have an associates degree in accounting but no relevant work exp besides basic property accounting. Anyway... we are really hoping one of us can find a job sponsor and are willing to do any necessary course and prep work. I'd prefer to work in property since i've already got some experience and understanding but am basically willing to do any sort of labor or training that could secure sponsorship. Boyfriend is interested in construction management but also willing to do anything. Any feedback is very much appreciated. As we are from the USA we can't get a 2nd year WHV and are trying to get all this sorted out ASAP so we can start with any training courses we might need. We can barely sleep at night we are so worried about if any of this will work out or if we will just have to go back home to get work experience and then try to come back! Thank you PomInOz members!!

    One step at a time...

Hello all, First of all would like to say how awesome is this forum, it has already answered so many of our questions regarding visas and migration. Thumbs up! We're a fairly young couple from Felixstowe, UK - hoping to move to Oz. We went on a recce holiday to Oz and Nz in Nov 2012, and after spending 6 amazing weeks out there we're now 100% sure it's the place to be. My partner James(25) works as an electrical craftsman here in UK and would come under a Electrician (Special Class) on the skills list, therefore he would be the main applicant and I'm hoping to go out there as a partner on his visa. Ideally we want to get the 189 visa, however assuming we get superior results in his English test to get the extra points, we're just scraping away with 60 points, therefore we have also been considering a 190 Visa and here's where I get the first question. For the 190 visa does your skill needs to be on state skills list, because after having a closer look I can find the Electrician (General) but not the special class one. Would it still be worth selecting states for 190 visa when placing EOI? I (23) on the other hand haven't got a skill they need, hence hoping to go out there on James visa, so far so good, but...He has British passport as he's been here all his life, however mine is Latvian as I only moved here in 2005. Would it affect our visa in any way? We've been together for over 4 years and have plenty of proof and stuff. Also my passport expires September, 2013, would it be better to renew it before applying for a visa? Also James has to do a TRA skills assessment, I gather these don't expire so technically he could do it now, but can anyone confirm that I got it right? And finally I seem to get really confused about the medicals. Do you have to do any before lodging your visa or do you just wait till they ask you to do it? Overall we're rather excited about it all, but want to get it right first time round. Oh and we also have a 5 year old Schnauzer cross who would most likely be coming to Oz with us
  3. Ok. So firstly hello to everyone. I have lots of questions, the first being do you think Australia offers a better way of life than the U.K? If yes, please give details on areas which you think are best. We are a young couple, both 21 and are seriously considering migration to Oz within the next 5 years maximum (i.e once both qualified, my boyfriend, an Accountant and me, a Chemistry teacher). How hard would it be for us to get visas, on a scale of 1-10 (1 being absolutely no way and 10 being we already have it in the bag) :cute: Also if we are able to get in, what would be the average salaries for us both and what kind of house could we afford to live in on those salaries, as I've heard that living Australia is very expensive. One last thing is what accounting qualifications are accepted ( e.g AAT, CIMA, ACA or would it have to be an accounting degree) and would I be able to teach Chemistry or Science in a Secondary school with a BSc in Chemistry/Chemical Sciences and a PGCE in Chemistry or would I need a different type of teaching qualification? Any help or advice would help greatly. Thanks Jess
  4. Hi Everyone, We are new to this so hoping to get some great tips and advice..... We are a young couple and trying to decide whether to move to Oz or not, really, deep down we both want to do it and have nothing to lose as we have no responsibilities but it is still such a huge and scary decision :arghh: We spent 10 months travelling/working around Oz and fell in love with the country but it would still be great to get some advice on where to live, jobs etc.... My boyfriend is a builder so will be heading wherever the work is! We are off to an emigration exhibition next week so hoping that will also help us make our HUGE decision! any help or chat from people in the same boat as us would be great  xxxxx
