  1. Hi, I'm currently level 2 NVQ qualified in carpentry, will be level 3 NVQ May 2015. Looking to work in Oz for a few years, moving September 2015. Hoping to get a sponsored visa, ideally a 457, as I don't want to do regional work. However, it appears you have to undergo a TRA assessment before applying for a visa. Does anyone know if this costs? Or is there any way to get around this? Is there an easier way to be able to work for up to 4 years, without having to do regional work? Does anyone have any advice on the best route or path to take? thanks Sam

  3. Hello, my boyfriend and I (26 and 22 years old) just got to Oz from the USA on working holiday visa. We love it so much and don't want to have to go back home but unfortunately we don't have any qualifying work experience as we just graduated university (bachelors) in August. Also, our majors don't seem to be very helpful in qualifying us for in demand jobs (he studied Political Science and I studied Philosophy with a minor in urban and regional studies). I did work all through school part time and have had a real estate license in California for 4 years and worked as a property manager assistant and real estate assistant. I also have an associates degree in accounting but no relevant work exp besides basic property accounting. Anyway... we are really hoping one of us can find a job sponsor and are willing to do any necessary course and prep work. I'd prefer to work in property since i've already got some experience and understanding but am basically willing to do any sort of labor or training that could secure sponsorship. Boyfriend is interested in construction management but also willing to do anything. Any feedback is very much appreciated. As we are from the USA we can't get a 2nd year WHV and are trying to get all this sorted out ASAP so we can start with any training courses we might need. We can barely sleep at night we are so worried about if any of this will work out or if we will just have to go back home to get work experience and then try to come back! Thank you PomInOz members!!
  4. Hi, After 4 years of debating about emigrating, we decided to go for it two weeks ago. Only then we found our my OH's occupation was to be removed from the SOL on 1st July. I've spent the last couple of weeks trying to determine if there are any other sponsored visa options open to us. I've looked at all of the state migration plans and can only find his job on the NT list (we really want Qld or WA but would also consider Vic). The migration agents I've spoken to haven't been able to give me any answers - one assured me he is on the state sponsored list for WA but I've checked and can't find his job on their list of occupations anywhere. Another promised to look over his CV and get back to us when she finds time. The rest fobbed me off by directing me back to their websites or asking me to call back later in the year to see if the states update their wanted lists. We really want to get things moving asap if there is still a chance we can go. Does anyone have any advice on what we can do? Is it possible to approach states directly to consider him even if his occupation isn't on their skills in demand list? Is there a certain time of year the states update their skill requirements? Any advice would be appreciated.
  5. Hello everyone, am I in the right place for some advice on moving to Australia?? Myself and girlfriend having been mulling over a move to Australia for far too long, and we've decided to make a decision once and for all. We both want to live & work in Australia having visited on a number of occasions over the past few years. We have spent the past 6 months trying to find a 457 sponsored job in Australia, however the barrier of being in the UK at present constantly leads to rejection. We are both 30+ and degree qualified, one as a Digital Marketer and the other as a Health Promotion worker, however neither fall onto the SOL. Our only option now appears a risk or reward trip to Australia, giving up our jobs in England, in search of the Australian dream? We don't have too many ties here so this could happen very quickly and the funds are in place for at least a 6 month stay. I would love to know if anyone has actually done & achieved this?? What is the secret to success? I would also welcome honest advice from people, do they think it is possible to just turn up in the country and get a 457 sponsored job? If you've read this far, then thank you very much, look forward to hearing from you.
  6. Hey guys new to all this so please be gentle. So I am currently sponsored by a Perth based company that has all it's work in the Kimberly. I am on a 4:1 FIFO rota but it is not fixed and it is dependent on how much I want to work. I am a UK qualified electrician and I have my WA provisional electrical license. The company have done right by me with giving me and keeping me in work but since being sponsored in November as an electrician I have done only labouring work. To get my full A grade electrical license I need to do a log book which should take 6 months minimum. So here is my problem my company cannot do this so I need to find an alternative sponsor. I apply for nearly every job on Westjobs, Gumtree and Jobsearch and I have the help and advice of a solid lady at Manpower in Perth City. But I still do not have any takers. I have many trade related qualifications to help aid my job applications. But I keep hitting the wall of people not wanting to sponsor. I live in Perth with my beautiful girlfriend who has only just attached onto my visa as my de-facto partner even though we have been together 6 years. Although the Kimberly is stunning we are not ready to more here on a permanent basis just yet, we love Perth too much. I would consider a Perth based job or FIFO again. I am stuck as where to turn right now and would appreciate any advice and guidance from you lovely people who have taken the time to read my ramblings. Thanks

    Help please.

Hi All, Me and the other half are thinking of moving to Melbourne. He does IT/fixes aircraft so probably get something somewhere, i'm an independent partylite consultant and holistic therapist. Can anyone please recommend a good place to live? I researched several places and wondered where to go with 4 kids (11,8,6,4). Good primary/secondary schools, shops doctors dentists etc near by. Night life and plenty to do during the day, a beach nearby for the youngest (he'd live on the beach if he could), would be nice. We are currently at the very beginning of the whole process. Information gathering. Any help or advice will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
